Sheriff Won't Speculate On Murder/Suicide


"FLORENCE, KY — The death of an elderly couple in Florence is now being investigated as a double homicide.

"Boone County Sheriff's deputies were called to the home after a family member went to check on the couple because they didn't show up for church and found them dead.

"William, whom friends called Bill, and Peggy Stephenson, both 74-years-old were last heard from on Friday.

"Sheriff's investigators are not speculating how the couple died but are investigating the scene completely to ensure nothing is overlooked.

"No other information concerning the case is being released at this point.

"Bill was a deacon at Union Baptist Church and his wife an organist for the congregation. Bill was known in the community for his work with the Trucker's Chapel ministry at a truck stop on Route 18 just off Highway 75."

Two Found Dead At Home "Engulfed In Flames"


"PLEASANT TWP, IN — Porter County Sheriff’s Police are investigating the apparent firebombing death of a Kouts woman early Tuesday at the hands of her estranged husband.

"Police responded to 1269 S 200 E, in Pleasant Township in rural Kouts, at approximately 3 a.m. Tuesday for a domestic disturbance that claimed two lives.

"Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said the deceased were Frederick Miller, 59, and his wife, Cheryl Miller, 52.

"Police said the estranged husband came to the residence and threw a flammable device through a window. The man’s estranged wife and the couple’s 19-year-old son were home at the time. The son was able to escape and call police after hearing several gunshots from near the residence, police said.

"Upon police arrival, the residence was fully engulfed in flames and the estranged wife was found dead in the driveway. The estranged husband was also found dead on the property from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a press release.

"Harris said that an autopsy on both will likely take place Wednesday but that it appears both died from gun shot wounds in a murder-suicide."

Ohio Pair Found Dead In Home


"SPRINGDALE, OH — Police are investigating what they believe to be a murder-suicide involving a 56-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman.

"Springdale police discovered the two bodies in a residence on Friday in the 400 block of Maple Circle, police said. Police had been requested to check on the well-being of the two people living there. Their names have not yet been released.

"The two bodies were taken to the Hamilton County morgue. The families of the two people have been contacted, police said.

"Springdale police said their preliminary investigation has caused them to believe the deaths resulted from a murder and suicide. The investigation is continuing."

"MOUNT MORRIS, NY — Two people are dead in what police say they believe is a murder-suicide in Mount Morris.

"New York State Police Capt. Mike Ceretto said the agency is investigating an incident at 11 Glenn Morris Ave. that appears to be a murder suicide.

"Ceretto said the call came in this morning. He did not identify the victims, but friends and neighbors, including Dean Stanley of Mount Morris, said the deceased are a married couple—Jim and Mary Layland—who lived in the house.

"Police surrounded the house for much of the day. At one point, a man who was being interviewed by police collapsed in the street, distraught."

"Police said a woman went to check on her parents at the Gulf Mist apartment complex near Hardy Court and discovered their bodies just after 11 a.m. Police were withholding the identity of the couple until relatives were notified about the deaths.

"Capt. Ken Brown said notes were found to relatives, the words of which lead investigators to the conclusion of murder-suicide. The couple had been experiencing many health problems, he said."

Man Beats, Stabs Wife Before Shooting Himself


"TULLAHOMA, TN — Around 2:50 Saturday afternoon, an Office Max employee called 911 to report a man beating up a woman in the store's parking lot on North Jackson Street in Tullahoma.

"Officials say the victim, Melody Martin, 46, worked next door to the Office Max at a nursing home. Her estranged husband, Benny Martin, 43, was waiting on her outside the nursing home. When she got off from work, investigators say he rammed her car with his.

"The two ended up in the Office Max parking lot. The employees and customers tried to intervene, but he pulled out a gun, according to witnesses, so they backed away, but watched as he was beating her severely.

"Witnesses say he then pulled out a knife and started stabbing her. Witness told police Benny Martin fled the scene. About an hour later, he was found in his car on West Lincoln Street with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville where he was pronounced dead.

"Police said the couple had a history of domestic violence, and Melody had recently filed an order of protection, which had yet to be served."

"GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL — Two men died Saturday when a love triangle ended in murder-suicide in a Green Cove Springs home, authorities said.

"Robert Lee Church, 48, was apparently shot about 5 p.m. by the man who had married his ex-wife, said Sgt. Marty Cotchaleovitch of the Clay County Sheriff's Office. Deputies who were called to the scene found the shooter, Gary Ward, 49, had turned the gun on himself and was dead as well.

"Ward had married Nettie Sue Church in 2003 in Middleburg, court records show. She had been married earlier to Church, but they divorced in 1999, records show.

"Cotchaleovitch said Church's former wife had apparently decided Friday to leave Ward. She and Church were in a rental home Church owned on 1624 Warfield Avenue when Ward arrived and fired two shots, he said."

Two Dead After Ex-Boyfriend Shows Up With Gun


"WAXAHACHIE, TX — A woman and a man she once dated were found shot to death Friday in a home in Waxahachie in what was evidently a murder-suicide.

"The woman’s current boyfriend struggled with the gunman after taking her toddler son to safety in a back room.

"The 2-year-old boy wasn’t injured.

"The current boyfriend witnessed the woman’s shooting.

"He ran to a neighbor’s home for help after struggling with the gunman, who then killed himself, Waxahachie Police Chief Chuck Edge said.

"The current boyfriend was treated for injuries suffered in the scuffle.

"Police haven’t released the names of any of those involved in the incident.

"The toddler will be placed with his grandmother.

"Neither of the men was his father, Edge said.

"Shots were fired through the walls of the wood-fame house in the direction of arriving officers, but Edge says investigators don't know if officers were being targeted."

"LOOMIS, CA — At least two people were found dead in a Loomis home earlier today in what could possibly be a murder-suicide scenario, said Det. Sgt. Alfredo Guitron of the Placer County Sheriff's Department.

"Emergency personnel were called to the house in the 6100 block of Rachel Lane just before 10 a.m. after a visiting friend found an unconscious woman, Guitron said.

"When Loomis firefighters arrived a minute later, there were additional victims discovered, Guitron said, although he would not say how many.

"All the victims - who are adults in their 40s - were associated with the home.

"`This is not random,` Guitron said. `But we don't know the relationship of everyone inside.`

"Detectives are treating the investigation as a homicide. They are interviewing neighbors who say there were rumors of shots being fired Friday at about 7 p.m. although no one reported it to authorities, Guitron said."

One Dead, Two Injured After Domestic Situation Explodes


"BIRMINGHAM, AL — Friday afternoon, a 25-year-old man shot his girlfriend and his girlfriend's mother before taking his own life, according to Birmingham police.

"Sgt. Johnny Williams gave this account:

"West Precinct officers were called to a house on 16th Street Southwest near the intersection of Cleburn Avenue about 4:30 p.m.

"`We did determine it was a domestic situation,` Williams said. `It had been going on for a couple of days and it escalated.`

"The boyfriend, who did not live at the house, was arguing with this 19-year-old girlfriend when her mother tried to intercede. The girlfriend's mother suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her hand. The man then shot his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself.

"Part of the incident happened inside the house and part outside.

"The girlfriend is in serious condition, Williams said. The identities of those involved have not been released."

"MAYETTA, KS — Two men have been killed in a shooting incident on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation near Mayetta.

"The Potawatomi Tribal Police Department on Friday identified the men as 70-year-old Joseph Mattwaoshshe, and 64-year-old Donald Allen. Both were members of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

"Tribal authorities [said] that Mattwaoshshe was the victim of a gunshot wound, and that Allen died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Tribal police and Jackson County Sheriff's deputies responded at Thursday night to reports of shots fired at a tribal housing complex on the tribal reservation west of Mayetta. The incident remains under investigation by tribal police working with other area law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs."

"Police said relatives called them to check on the well-being of the family at their residence on 5352 Vine Avenue. Police discovered the bodies around 9:20 a.m.

"Investigators believe this is an isolated domestic incident. They located the murder weapon at the scene.

"The victims are identified as 50-year-old Dennis Worden, his 44-year-old wife, Dianna Worden, and her two children, 26-year-old Brandon Greene and 18-year-old Emily Dreiman."

"ORLANDO, FL — Police are still investigating a murder-suicide in a parking garage at Florida Hospital in Orlando that left a doctor and gunman dead on Thursday afternoon.

"The doctor was identified as 41-year-old Dmitriy Nikitin, who Florida Hospital described as a multi-organ transplant surgeon.

"Police have not yet been able to find a next of kin for the gunman, who lived alone, according to police spokeswoman Lt. Barbara Jones. When his next of kin have been notified, police will reveal his identity.

"Local news agencies are reporting that the gunman was a patient at the hospital, but that has not been confirmed by law-enforcement officials.

"No information was released about how the gunman might have known Nikitin.

"Officers closed off the hospital garage after being called about 5:10 p.m. to the facility at 601 E. Rollins St. Jones said that the shooting happened near the elevators on the first floor of the garage, which is used by employees and patients' families.

"Police did not release any information about the type of weapon used in the shooting, or whether it was recovered.

"The Orlando Fire Department said it took the shooting victims to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Police did not release details of exactly when the men died."

Nobody Dies In Grandma's Botched Murder/Suicide


"CHRISTIANSBURG, VA — A Christiansburg woman and her granddaughter are both currently hospitalized in North Carolina after police say the woman allegedly abducted the five-year-old from school, transported her to Winston-Salem, and harmed her in a failed murder-suicide attempt.

"Angela Terri Lynch, 43, allegedly checked the girl out from Falling Branch Elementary School in Christiansburg mid-Wednesday morning and disappeared.

"Lynch was on the school’s approved pickup list for the girl, though police say the child’s mother did not know she planned to pick up the child during the school day.

"Both were reported missing to the Christiansburg Police Department around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday.

"Investigators say that housekeeping staff at a Hampton Inn and Suites in Winston-Salem found Lynch and the child when entering a room for routine cleaning this morning.

"Both Lynch and the child were semi-conscious and in need of immediate medical treatment.

"Police believe the child’s injuries were inflicted by Lynch in an attempt to take her life. Lynch was suffering from similar self-inflicted injuries, as well as the effects of an undetermined amount of medication.

"Lynch and the child were transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Both are listed in stable condition at this time.

"No information is being released regarding a possible motive."

SWAT Team Finds Bodies After Blasting Into Apartment


"HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — Two people were found dead in a Huntington Beach home Wednesday in an apparent murder-suicide after an eight-hour standoff with police, authorities said.

"Neighbors of the couple in the 8600 block of Garfield Avenue heard arguing and gunshots Wednesday morning. Huntington Beach Police Lt. Russell Reinhart said it was unclear whether the bodies were those of the homeowners, whom he described as a couple in their 50s with no previous brushes with the law.

"A SWAT team used explosive charges to enter the residence. The first charge was set off about 2:30 p.m. to open an iron security gate, which had prevented police from entering the property. More security gates were found inside the house. Additional charges were used before police entered the home shortly before 4, Reinhart said.

"The person who called police about 8:30 a.m. described hearing arguments followed by gunshots, then someone shouting, `Oh, my God,` before another gunshot, Reinhart said. The same account was given to police by residents who spoke to officers on the scene.

"Four nearby streets were blocked off and six homes were evacuated, Reinhart said.

"The investigation is ongoing."

Victim Drives Herself To Hospital


"COLUMBIA, SC — A 21-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man were shot at a residence licensed as an in-home childcare center called Shirley Tucker Daycare, 1612 Summit Ridge Drive, the Richland County Sheriff's Office said.

"Richland County Coroner Gary Watts ruled the 18-year-old's death a suicide. The deceased is Henry Ellison, 18, who lived at the home, Watts said. Ellison first shot his girlfriend, whose name has not been released. She drove herself to the hospital and does not appear to have life-threatening injuries, Watts said.

"While children were present in the childcare center, no children were harmed in the incident. The children were inside the home, and the shootings took place outside.

"It was unclear if either of the victims worked or had children at the daycare, but personnel with the sheriff's department's Victims' Services Unit were on the scene caring for them until parents could be notified to come pick them up."

"SAN DIEGO, CA — Police say they've found evidence of a murder-suicide at a San Diego home where a family of four was found dead in a swimming pool and a bathtub.

Shooter Calls Cops To Report "Two Mercy Killings"


"SKOWHEGAN, ME — Police say they're treating the deaths of an elderly couple found in their central Maine home as an apparent murder-suicide.

"Maine State Police said the bodies of 86-year-old Barbour Flewellen and his 75-year-old wife, Marie Flewellen, were found Tuesday morning in the bedroom of their Skowhegan home on 27 Alder Street.

"Detectives said Barbour Flewellen appears to have shot his wife before fatally shooting himself.

"Skowhegan police said Flewellen called them shortly before 11 a.m. to report `two mercy killings.` When police arrived minutes later, the couple was dead.

"Police said a .22-caliber handgun was found near the bodies, but no suicide note was located."

Two Dead In Nursing Home Shooting


"WEST BEND, WI — An 81-year-old man shot and killed his 82-year-old wife with a handgun, then shot and killed himself, in a murder-suicide that occurred about 12:10 p.m. Tuesday at the Samaritan Health Center, Police Chief Kenneth Meuler said.

"The victim was a patient at the nursing home operated by Washington County and her husband was visiting her inside the woman's room. Both the man and woman were West Bend residents.

"A care worker discovered the bodies of the victim and suspect shortly after noon, Meuler said. The center is located at 531 E. Washington St.

"No one else was injured or threatened during the incident, police said.

"Meuler said the names of the man and his wife were not being released until family could be notified."

Paramedics Pronounce Elderly Couple Dead


"BIG BEAR LAKE, CA — An elderly man called Sheriff's dispatchers early this morning to report he had just killed his wife and when deputies arrived at the scene, they found the man had turned the gun on himself.

"The man made the call about 3:15 a.m.from the couple's home in the 200 block of Knoll Road, which sits very close to Big Bear Lake.

"`The 78-year-old suspect called, saying he just killed his 80-year-old wife,` said Jodi Miller, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. `When deputies arrived at the scene, they found him sitting next to her suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.`

"Paramedics pronounced the man and his wife dead at the scene, she said.

"The identities of both the man and his wife have not yet been released.

"`We are waiting for the next of kin to be notified,` Miller said.

"Sheriff's detectives are conducting a homicide investigation."

"CASTLE ROCK, CO — A Castle Rock mother who called 911 Monday morning to report that she had attempted suicide told a dispatcher her two children were "already in heaven," according to police.

"Now that mother, identified as 41-year-old Kelli Murphy, is facing two counts of first-degree murder, child abuse and other charges, said Castle Rock Police Chief Tony Lane.

"The 41-year-old mother called 911 at 7:48 a.m. Monday to report she had attempted suicide by slashing her wrists, Lane said. When a dispatcher asked about her children, and if they were home, the mother said: `They're already in heaven,` according to Lane.

"Officers responding to the home at 236 Cherry Street then found the bodies of her two children, a 9-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl.

"There were no visible injuries on the children—Liam and Madigan—and their cause of death is being investigated, he said. It's not clear how long they have been dead.

"Murphy was treated for lacerations to her wrist at Sky Ridge Medical Center and released. She was taken into police custody around 2:30 p.m.

"Murphy and her 41-year-old husband, Robert Eric Murphy, filed for divorce Feb. 9 and were separated, Lane said.

"`The father is not a suspect in the case,` Lane said."

"HOUSTON, TX — A man shot and killed his estranged wife and later turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide this morning in east Houston, police said.

"The two argued at Woodforest Chase Apartments in the 12700 block of Woodforest just before 8:30 a.m., and the woman retreated to her car and locked the doors, investigators said.

"`He fired several shots into the car, striking her, and then he leaves the scene,`said Houston police Lt. Ron Walker.

"Police said the suspect drove about a mile away and apparently committed suicide in the 13100 block of Woodforest. His body was found in a black pickup truck.

"The severely wounded victim died upon arrival at LBJ Hospital. Police withheld her identity until her family could be notified."

"Luzerne County District Attorney Jackie Musto Carroll says Cooper intended to kill Shaundra Langille. The shooting came a day after a judge awarded her temporary custody of their daughter and barred the couple from personal contact with each other."

"SHALER, PA — Police and emergency responders we're called to Beulah Street in Shaler Township just before 10 p.m. Sunday evening after reports of shots being fired.

"According to Shaler police, upon arrival they found three people with single gunshot wounds to the head as well as the shooter with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The chief said that it is possible the man may have still been breathing when police arrived on scene.

"First responders walked into a gruesome scene upon arrival.

"A girl thought to be 8-years-old was found in a hallway leading back into bedrooms. The mother and infant, who was thought to be a 2-year-old girl, were found in the bed with single gunshot wound to the head.

"According to police it seemed that the mother may have been trying to protect the baby. The Father, who investigators say was the shooter, was found along side the bed.
According to neighbors, the family had just moved into the home and nobody really knew them.

"According to Shaler Police this is a nice neighborhood and they have had very few calls in that area."

Septuagenarians Found Dead In Home


"DIXON, IL — The Dixon Police Department is currently conducting a homicide investigation that occurred at 407 Sherman Avenue in Dixon earlier today, Sunday, May 22, 2011.

"At approximately 9:40 a.m., Dixon Police Officers and Dixon Fire Department personnel responded to the residence after receiving a report of an unresponsive male laying in the backyard of the residence. Police and fire personnel arrived and noted that the male was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"A handgun was found in close proximity to the body.

"Officers then entered the residence and located a female in a bedroom that was also deceased from a gunshot wound. The residence was secured and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services was contacted to assist with the investigation.

"Preliminary results of the investigation indicate that the male appears to have shot the female and then turned the firearm on himself.

"At this time, the Department is not releasing the identities of the deceased individuals pending the notification of next of kin.

"The male subject is approximately 75 years of age and the female victim is approximately 73 years of age. The male and female were also married to each other.

"It happened at a home on San Ardo Way in North Highlands. Police say around 6pm Saturday the brother and sister got into an altercation in the garage of the residence.

"The brother allegedly shot his sister before he turned the gun on himself. A number of family members and children were at the party when the shooting happened. However, police say all of them made it out safely. Neighbors gathered outside for hours in disbelief as authorities from the Sacramento Sheriff's Department processed the crime scene. A young boy may have witnessed the murder-suicide.

"It's not clear why the two victims were arguing but sources say the sister had been packing earlier in the day to move out.

"`They moved in about nine months ago. He was a big Raiders fan`, said Jay Reece, a next-door neighbor. Police have not released the identity of either victim. The brother is said to have been at least 40-years-old. The sister was in her 30's.

"Neighbors say the birthday party was for the sister's 10-year old son. It's not clear if he has any siblings."

Shooter Hospitalized After Botched Multiple Murder/Suicide


"WHITAKERS, NC — A woman died in an apparent murder-attempted suicide in the town of Whitakers Saturday morning, Nash County Sheriff Dick Jenkins said.

"Police said James Radford shot and killed his wife, Teresa Radford, at 116 Southwest Railroad Street, Jenkins said. Radford then turned the gun on himself but survived. He was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday evening.

"Another woman, Martha Worrell, was shot in the altercation and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said Radford also tried to shoot Shelton Whittaker, but missed.

"All four people were at Worrell's home when the shooting happened.

"Police said they planned to charge Radford with murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill."

"MESA, AZ — Mesa police say a woman is dead after firing a gun at a neighbor, then barricading herself in her apartment Saturday.

"Around 10 a.m., Mesa police received a call from a man who said a woman from his complex near Stapley Drive and Southern Avenue, had pointed a handgun at him when he answered the front door.

"The woman had fired a round at the man but missed, said Mesa police detective Mike Melendez. The man was able to close and lock the door, while the woman was seen retreating to her apartment, he said.

"As police arrived, they heard a gunshot coming from the woman's apartment. Nearby apartments were evacuated as more police and SWAT team officers arrived.

"Around 12:30 p.m., police broke into the apartment, where they found a 52-year-old woman dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"According to neighbors, the woman often acted irrationally, appearing agitated and shouting at people in the complex for no reason, Melendez said.

"The woman's identity has not yet been released.

"YELM, WA — The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether an 81-year-old Yelm man committed a murder-suicide by giving his wife a toxic chemical cocktail in their home before drinking it himself.

"Anthony Fetter and his 81-year-old wife, Keiko, were found dead May 9 at their home on 14945 129th Lane Southeast in Yelm.

"According to a search warrant affidavit to search Fetter’s computer:

"Both are thought to have swallowed a deadly `tricolored orange liquid substance` found in a pitcher and in two glasses on the kitchen counter in the home. When sheriff’s detectives found the bodies, they smelled strong chemicals coming from the liquid and became nauseated when they breathed the fumes.

"Keiko Fetter `had very accelerated dementia and was not able to speak in full sentences,` according to an affidavit written by Thurston County Sheriff’s Detective Cameron Simper’s affidavit. `She had difficulty walking and caring for herself. Keiko had been hospitalized recently due to complications. She was released to her husband, with the assumption that he would care for her at the residence with the assistance of an in-home caregiver.`

"Anthony Fetter canceled his wife’s Keiko’s in-home care April 15. He also canceled her upcoming neurology appointment."

"ROCK FALLS, IL — Two Rock Falls schools were put on lockdown following a shooting near the schools Friday morning.

"The Rock Falls Police Department says a woman was shot around 8:30 a.m. in the area of 8th Avenue and 19th Street, which is near Dillon Elementary and Rock Falls Middle School.

"Police say the schools were put on lockdown as a precautionary measure and no students, or staff were in danger. The lockdown was lifted by 11:00 a.m.

"Police say the woman who was shot is in her 40's and was taken to a hospital. A suspect was seen running from the area and was followed into an apartment in the 500 block of West 18th Street where police surrounded the complex. After a brief standoff, officers went into the apartment and found another woman dead, along with the suspect in the original shooting also dead.

"MERIDIAN, ID — Police say two people are dead - a man and a little girl. Witnesses found the pair shot dead in the parking lot of the Majestic Theatre on Overland Road just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

"16 year old Jessica Beckwith died of her wound. Verble’s wife survived and is listed in critical but stable condition.

"PIERRE PART, LA — A 51-year-old opened fire in a La. 70 restaurant this morning, killing his ex-girlfriend and wounding another customer.

"Paul French, 114 Derrick St., Lot B, Pierre Part, shot 42-year-old Michelle Borer, 134 Mary Ann St., Lot A, Pierre Part, multiple times at Landry's Seafood Restaurant, 3614 La. 70, Assumption sheriff's deputies said. French allegedly shot Borer, a waitress at the restaurant, multiple times, with a handgun before shooting himself in the head, police said.

"When French began firing his handgun, a man eating at the restaurant began shooting to defend other patrons, deputies said. French and the man continued to exchange gunfire outside of the restaurant, and the man was shot in the abdomen, police said.

"Borer was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

"Borer had filed a protective order against French that was in effect until next year, and French was arrested earlier this month for violating that order, police said.

"French was also convicted of possession of cocaine in 2006 and was on probation at the time of his death, court records show."

Killer Shoots Himself Several Times Before Getting It Right


"DES ALLEMANDS, LA — The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office is reporting that a 39-year-old Hahnville man shot and killed a former girlfriend in Des Allemands Monday night and then took his own life.

"Authorities say Curry Lewis of Hahnville shot and killed 25-year-old Santana Marshall of Des Allemands sometime around 9:30 p.m. Lewis then drove Marshall's vehicle a short distance away where he shot himself several times.

"Investigators say that Lewis, who had apparently dated Marshall in the past, arrived at Marshall's home on 100 Meyer Lane in Des Allemands as she pulled into her driveway Monday night. Lewis allegedly ordered Marshall out of her vehicle at gunpoint then shot her twice, once in the head and once in the chest. Lewis then fled in Marshall's vehicle.

"Lewis contacted a family member and stated that he had just killed Marshall and was going to kill himself, police say. A short time later, deputies located Lewis and the victim's vehicle on Levee Road in Des Allemands. Authorities say Lewis was found with what appeared to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds under his chin and possibly as many as three shots to the body. He was pronounced dead at the scene."

"Police learned of the violence inside a house at 5245 Venus Drive when the injured man called 911 at 12:08 p.m. to say that he'd been shot, said Fairfield Police Officer Cleo Mayoral. The police arrived to find a man and woman dead and another man with life-threatening wounds. The fourth resident of the home, who had made the call, had been shot in the foot.

"The seriously injured man - who police say shot the other three with a semi-automatic handgun and then fired upon himself - was pronounced dead upon arrival at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

"`Apparently there's been a lot of tension in the house. These people lived together and they didn't get along,` Mayoral said, adding that the suspected killer had been presented with a civil order filed by another resident the day before.

"Mayoral did not go into details about the court order or past incidents, but did say that `our indication is that there was no romantic relationship between the victims.`"

Man Kills Wife, Twins Before Shooting Himself


"LOS ANGELES, CA — A father shot and killed his 5-year-old twins and their mother during an argument while driving the family on a Los Angeles street Saturday night, investigators said.

"Salvador Acevedo, 45, later killed himself with the same handgun after dropping off three older children at a relative's home, according to a Los Angeles Sheriff's spokesman.

"Acevedo `became involved in a domestic dispute` with his girlfriend, 33-year-old Iris Oseguera, while in the car, Sgt. Harry Drucker said. `Acevedo produced a handgun and shot Oseguera and their twin children, striking each victim in the upper torso.`

The three adolescent children who were riding in the car were not wounded, he said.

"`Acevedo dropped the adolescent children off at a relative's home and drove away,` he said. `The children told an adult about the incident and they alerted East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station.`

"When deputies locate Acevedo's car, they found him `suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and the three injured victims inside of the vehicle,` Drucker said.

"Both parents were dead at the scene, while the twin children were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead, he said."

"DURHAM, NC — Durham Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a 22-month-old girl.

"The shooting took place around 12:50 p.m. Saturday at the Hampton Forest Apartments at 901 Chalk Level Road, police say.

"When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they found 25-year-old Tyrone Xavier Hester lying behind a building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Police said Hesters’ 22-month-old daughter, Aaisha Hester, was critically injured and was taken to Duke University Hospital. A short time after arriving at the hospital, she was pronounced dead.

"Investigators believe Hester shot the child once and then shot himself. Police said Hester was not living at the apartment complex, but was visiting relatives."

Mom, Daughter Found Dead


"DEVILLE, LA — A woman in Deville apparently shot her 6-year-old daughter to death and then killed herself, authorities reported.

"Killed were Stacey Cosenza, 40, and Joleigh Cozenza, 6, in the Thursday shooting incident at 675 Barron Chapel Road in the Deville area, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

"Officials say it appears to be a murder-suicide, but the incident is still under investigation."

Shooter In Serious Condition After Botched Murder/Suicide


"MIAMI, FL — Police say a man is still alive after he shot and killed his wife in a failed murder-suicide attempt in the couple's North Miami home Thursday night.

"Authorities say the couple's three children were in the home in the 1500 block of Northeast 132nd Road when the shots rang out around 9:30 p.m.

"When officers arrived the husband was still inside the home. He eventually came out and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said.

"None of the children -- ages 4, 11 and 13 -- were injured. Police said two were in the house and one was on the porch when the shooting began, and one of them may have witnessed the shooting.

"Police haven't identified the couple."

Elderly Woman Dead After Attempted Murder/Suicide


"LONG BEACH, CA — Homicide detectives are investigating a possible murder and attempted suicide in East Long Beach, authorities confirmed Thursday night.
Patrol officers were sent to a home in the 3500 block of Los Coyotes Diagonal at about 10 a.m., said Nancy Pratt, an LBPD spokeswoman.

"Officers were told there was a dead woman inside the home and a man threatening to kill himself, she said.

"When police arrived they found a 63-year-old man suffering from stab wounds and an 88-year-old woman inside the home also with serious injuries and bleeding, Pratt said.

"Long Beach Fire Department paramedics were called to the home and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

"The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition late Thursday, Pratt said.

"`We believe he harmed the woman causing her death and then attempted to take his own life,` Pratt said.

"Police did not identify either person pending notification of their relatives, she said."

Dead Couple Had Recently Broken Up


"LAWNDALE, CA — The deaths of a man and woman found shot in Lawndale is believed to be a murder-suicide, a detective said today.

"Carlton Fexcence Ceasar, 46, of Lawndale is suspected of shooting Lisa Carnett Brown, 42, also of Lawndale in the home in the 4000 block of Rosecrans Avenue, authorities said.

"Their bodies were found about 3:15 p.m.

"Each was shot, but detectives did not provide details of the crime scene or motive.

"Sheriff's homicide Sgt. Bill Cotter said today that it is believed the man shot the woman and then killed himself.

"`Right now we are still putting the case together,` Cotter said. `It appears to be a murder-suicide at this time.`

"News reports indicated the couple had recently broken up."

SWAT Robot Finds Elderly Couple, Cat Dead


"LITTLE TORCH KEY, FL — An elderly man shot his wheelchair-bound wife and cat and then killed himself in their Florida Keys home Wednesday in what appears to be a murder-suicide, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

"Joan Tucker, 77, was killed of the first floor of her home on quiet Tortuga Road on Little Torch Key, a small island about 25 miles from Key West.

"Detectives believe she was shot by her husband, Glen Tucker, 81, who was found dead in an upstairs bedroom, along with the couple’s cat.

"A neighbor called police about 12 p.m., reporting he heard shots fired. Monroe County deputies responded, but did not immediately enter the brown house fearing an armed suspect could be inside.

"The Sheriff’s Office bomb squad sent a robot inside the house to determine the situation. Shortly after 1 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team entered and found the dead couple.

"Motives for the killings were not immediately known, according to the Sheriff’s Office."
