Relatives Find Bodies After Breaking Into House

"COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — A man and a woman were found dead Saturday afternoon after what police suspect was a murder-suicide in a home near The Broadmoor.

"Two of the couple’s relatives found the bodies just before 12:30 p.m. in the master bedroom of 20 Highland Street, behind the famed resort, said Colorado Springs police Sgt. Jerry Steckler. A handgun was found between the bodies, he said.

"Police are investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide, Steckler said.

"The man and the woman living in the house hadn’t been heard from since Thursday, and a relative had tried repeatedly to check on them. No one ever answered the door.

"Two relatives broke into the back door of the house Saturday and found the couple. Both had been shot in the head, Steckler said.

"A husband and wife who lived in the house were supposed to move out Saturday, said Barney Iuppa, who owns the house.

"Most of the belongings in the house were boxed up, Steckler said.

"`They were good tenants — never had any problems,` Iuppa said.

"Neighbors recalled seeing the couple host a garage sale earlier this month in anticipation of moving.

"They were `quiet` and generally `kept to themselves,` said Tom Music, who lives across the street.

"The coroner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death, police said."

Murder/Suicide "Not Eliminated" As Cause Of Deaths

***** RETRACTED 03/26/2012 *****

"SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Five homicide victims have been found in a home a block from City College of San Francisco, according to police.

"Police were called to the home on the first block of Howth Street in the city’s Ingleside District at 7:47 a.m., police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

"At a press conference Friday morning, Police Chief Greg Suhr said a female family member entered a home and found a man dead at the door, one of five homicide victims—three women and two men—found throughout the house.

"Some of the victims had gunshot wounds, but the cause of the death for all the victims was not yet clear, said Suhr.

"All the victims appeared to be of Asian descent and all apparently lived in the home. Investigators believe are all related, but it had not been confirmed, said Suhr.

"A suspect was not immediately identified, and investigators had yet to eliminate the possibility that it was a murder-suicide.

"Suhr sought to assure the public that it appeared the crime was specific to the home and the area remained a safe residential neighborhood. Still, police were canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses.

"`We don’t believe we have a manhunt on our hands at this time,` said police Cmdr. Lyn Tomioka.

"The medical examiner, homicide investigators, crime scene investigators and officials from the district attorney’s office were at the scene as of 11:15 a.m.

"Tomioka said the crime scene is complex and that `it will be a slow process with that many victims.`"

Two Dead After Argument Over Dog

"FRESNO, CA — Two men died Thursday night in a murder-suicide that was sparked by a long-standing dispute over one man's dog getting into the other man's yard at their northwest Fresno condominium complex.

"Frank Cardoza, 59, was shot dead near his condo at the gated Bullard West complex around 5:30 p.m., Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

"The gunman, Dan Andersen, 74, was found dead in his car near a River Park eatery barely an hour later. He shot himself as police closed in, Dyer said.

"The dog, which might have been a collie, had gone into Andersen's yard many times, upsetting him greatly, the chief said.

"`This is a tragedy that doesn't make any sense,` Dyer said.

"The dispute had been going on for about five years and escalated Thursday afternoon into a physical altercation in Cardoza's yard, Dyer said.

"Cardoza tried to end the fight by pinning Andersen to the ground and attempting to calm him down. Andersen seemed to settle down and went to his home but returned with a gun, the chief said.

"When Cardoza went outside his condo, Andersen shot him in the leg, prompting Cardoza's wife to open their front door. Cardoza told her to close the door and stay inside. Andersen then shot Cardoza in the back of the head, Dyer said. Cardoza was apparently shot three times. It was unclear where the third shot hit. Police found him dead in front of his condo.

"Andersen then drove off in a maroon Acura but was tracked by police to River Park, where they found him near Romano's Macaroni Grill and tried to block him in, Dyer said.

"As officers converged, Andersen put the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger, Dyer said."

Investigators Suspect Murder/Suicide In Deaths Of Woman, Kids

"BOURBON, MO — A woman and three children were found shot to death in a remote area along a gravel road on the property of Blue Springs Ranch & Resort in Bourbon, Missouri.

"Investigators believe this is a triple murder-suicide. Crawford County Sheriff Randy E. Martin says each victim sustained one gunshot wound and the weapon, a handgun, was found close to the bodies.

"The sheriff says the victims were not guests at the ranch. Their names, ages, genders, and race are not being released, but the sheriff says they were not from the Crawford County vicinity.

"Sheriff Martin was asked if the victims are a mother and her three children.

"`Like I said we're trying to get some people out here to make a positive identification and we can release some names and more information, but at this time, we don't know that for a fact.`

"Martin did say investigators do not believe anyone else was involved in the incident.

"`We're not looking for anybody at this time,` he said.

"Asked if he believes the woman shot the three children and then herself, Sheriff Martin said, `We don't know for sure, but it kind of appears it could be that way. But again the investigation is still kind of early.`

"He Was Totally Blank"

"ORANGE PARK, FL — Two people are dead and another is in the hospital following a shooting in the Sweetbriar subdivision in the Argyle area.

"According to Lt. Craig Aldrich with the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Cynthia and David Hayes, a couple living in a home in the 400 block of Thornberry Drive, have been in the middle of a divorce.

"Mrs. Hayes had an order of protection against Mr. Hayes, but that order ran out last month. When Mrs. Hayes attempted to remove some items from the house Friday evening, investigators said she thought she would be alone.

"But detectives said Mr. Hayes was home when she arrived and the couple argued before Mrs. Hayes ran into a neighbor's house.

"That did not deter Mr. Hayes, whom deputies said followed his wife into the neighbor's house before shooting and killing her.

"`I begged him to put the gun down, that I have a kid, and he was totally blank. He had no expression, he said nothing,` said Renee Wallace, a neighbor who saw Hayes with the gun.

"Officers said David Hayes shot a second woman at some point prior to shooting his wife, and a witness found the woman in the couple's front yard. That woman is now in very critical condition at Orange Park Medical Center where she was taken for surgery. Deputies have not yet identified her or said how she knows the couple.

"`I don't want to get in to that, that's a little deep in to the investigation,` said Lt. Craig Alrich.

"After shooting his wife and the second woman, David Hayes went into his own home where investigators said he tried to shoot and kill himself. He was initially unsuccessful but CCSO spokesperson Mary Justino said he later died in the hospital."
