"Around 11 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of a deceased female on the Baldwin Street Bridge. Investigators say she appears to be a homicide victim.

"Shortly after the discovery of the body, police responded to a residence at 1 Hutchinson Street in Nashua. According to police, an adult male was inside the residence, alone, with multiple firearms. Black Friday

"CHICAGO, IL — A gunman shot a woman before turning the gun on himself Friday night in what police describe as a domestic-related shooting at the Nordstrom store on North Michigan Avenue.

"The man, whose age was not available, was targeting his `girlfriend or ex-girlfriend,` who was a seasonal employee at the department store, said John Escalante, chief of detectives for the Chicago Police Department.

"`She was working up on the second floor when he approached her, fired one shot, which struck her,` Escalante said on the scene. `He then turned the gun to himself and shot and killed himself.`

"Responders found the gunman dead when they arrived, and the woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Escalante said.

"The crowded store was hurriedly emptied of holiday shoppers after the shooting, according to witnesses. The shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

"`This is an active scene, an ongoing investigation, but again, I can tell you it is domestic-related,` Escalante said.

"According to court records, the gunman had petitioned to have a temporary restraining order issued against the woman for stalking. That petition was denied by a Cook County judge last April, court records show.

"According to the Nordstrom website, the store was open until 9 p.m."

"Sherwood Police Capt. Ty Hanlon said the couple was found dead at the home. The sister is being treated for gunshot wounds, but is expected to survive.

Killer Shoots Himself During Police Chase

"XENIA, OH — A Xenia man killed himself before police could apprehend him after a high-speed pursuit as part of an apparent murder/suicide.

"Earnest R. Starling Jr., 35, of Springfield, was shot and killed outside a home on East Church Street in Xenia about 1 a.m. Tuesday. The shooter, Chris Fonzi Jr., 31, reportedly came to that address, where his estranged wife lived, and displayed a handgun before forcing his way inside.

"Witnesses told Xenia police Starling and Fonzi argued in the home for several minutes. Fonzi fired several shots inside the home, then chased Starling outside, where he fired two more times. One of those bullets hit Starling in the torso, killing him, said Xenia Detective Scott Anger.

Killer Walks Away After Shooting Himself

"CHARLES TOWN, WV — Police believe a man who shot his estranged wife to death in the Patrick Henry Estates subdivision in the Charles Town area Friday night had been drinking heavily before the shooting and that the shooting occurred in a fit of anger over the prospect of the two getting a divorce, Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Dougherty said Sunday night.

"Dougherty said 42-year-old Harold Stambaugh Jr. allegedly shot Victoria Stambaugh to death in her mother's house on 408 Beauregard Boulevard with a .40-caliber handgun, then shot himself in the head. Dougherty said Harold Stambaugh fell down in the living room of the home and laid there for a period of time after firing a shot into his mouth.

"Then Stambaugh got up, put a `towel or something` against his head and walked to a house at 254 Fulton Ave., where he had been staying, Dougherty said.

"Dougherty said the Fulton Avenue house is where Stambaugh and Victoria Stambaugh had been living before she began staying at her mother's house.

"`There was very little blood between (the Beauregard Boulevard house) and the Fulton Avenue house,` Dougherty said.

"Dougherty said Victoria Stambaugh was shot multiple times, but he declined to say how many. He said an autopsy will be conducted to determine exactly how many times she was shot.

"Police said on Saturday that Harold Stambaugh Jr. was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after the shooting. Although police said Saturday that Stambaugh was in critical condition, he was expected to survive."

Family Of Three Likely Dead For Days

"HINESVILLE, GA — Police in Liberty County are investigating a deadly case of domestic violence. Hinesville police found the bodies of a man, his wife and her daughter inside their home on the 1900 block of Bluestone Loop last night. Neighbors say that was the last house where they'd expect such violence.

"Hinesville resident Sheletta Beverly is still in shock that such horror could happen a few doors from her home. She identified the family as Dwayne and Maxine Hankins and Mrs. Hankins' teenage daughter. `When I came home, it was Hinesville police cars everywhere, the road was blocked and one person came and told me what happened,` she said.

"Friends and teachers were worried when the woman and her daughter missed days of work and school. Police found doors locked and dead-bolted, and no signs of forced entry. `Near one of the windows, they noticed an odor coming from the residence and decided they should enter to see if everything was okay in the house,` said Det. Melvin Kesner with the Hinesville PD.

"Police found the family Thursday evening, but they think they've been in the house for days. Neighbor Beverly says the Hankinses had lived in the Stonehenge subdivision since 1996 and the children played with hers. `Maxine, every time you saw her, she was smiling,` she said. `She was always smiling and friendly and loving woman.`

"A handful of roses now sit just behind the crime scene tape. Neighbors hope they can get closer than that to some answers some time soon.

"Police say both adults worked in Savannah. They say the husband was a civilian employee of the military and had just returned from overseas in September.

"Maj. Thomas Cribbs of the Hinesville police says their theory from the start has been murder/suicide, but they are investigating every possibility to make sure it isn't anything that should cause worry to anyone else."

When Boyfriends Collide

"BILOXI, MS — When Biloxi police arrived at the Royal Gulf Apartments on 190 Gateway Dr, they found two bodies and three shotgun shells. The victim was identified as Francis Smith Jr., 36, of Gulfport. He had been shot twice.

"The suspect was also dead. Police say Keith Weaver, 38, also of Gulfport was distraught over his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

"`It appears that the ex-boyfriend of the girlfriend came over and confronted her and her new boyfriend, shot her new boyfriend, then shot himself,` Sgt. Alan Bond, a Biloxi Police Detective, said.

"Bond says Weaver did not have any history of violence and that he just appeared to have snapped. As people at the Royal Gulf apartment complex learned, domestic disputes can happen anywhere, anytime and unfortunately, sometimes they have tragic endings.

"Autopsies were performed on both men Saturday afternoon. Smith had gunshot wounds to his upper chest and shoulder. His death was ruled a homicide. Weaver had one gunshot wound to his chest. His death was ruled a suicide."
