"STANLY COUNTY, NC — Stanly County authorities said they are investigating after an apparent murder/suicide Wednesday morning.

"Officials said a 16-year-old girl was shot and killed, and that a 26-year-old man died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Police responded to the house on Highway 73 around 8:20 a.m. Authorities have not released the identities of the people.

"Family members of the man said that the two were just friends.

"The sheriff told [reporters] that the man left a note indicating he was upset that the girl’s family didn’t want them together and believes the man shot the 16-year-old before turning the gun on himself.

"Officials said the bodies were found by the man’s mother in a shed Wednesday morning."

Man Will Face Murder Charges After Botched Suicide

"MORTON GROVE, IL — A 74-year-old north suburban man charged with killing his wife in a failed murder/suicide attempt had been arrested for domestic battery the previous day.

"Howard Kim, who was released this week from Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge after being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, now faces a murder charge for killing his wife, 71-year-old Chung Kim.

"The elderly couple was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds in their home in the 5500 block of Madison Street in Morton Grove on Friday, according to Morton Grove police.

"Chung Kim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. An autopsy Sunday found she died of multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

"Morton Grove Police Commander Paul Yaras told [reporters] Chung Kim called police on June 26 to report a domestic dispute with her husband.

"A neighbor across the street, who asked not to be identified, said he saw the woman taken away in an ambulance on the Thursday before the murder, while her husband was arrested outside the home.

"Howard Chung was released the following day after Yaras said his wife refused to press charges.

"What happened on Friday night is not entirely clear, but police say Howard Kim shot his wife several times before turning the gun on himself.

"A family member called police to `report a problem at the house,` police said.

"When officers arrived, they found the couple lying on the floor unresponsive.

"Neighbors described the Kims as a quiet couple who kept to themselves.

"Howard Kim has been charged with first-degree murder and will appear in court at a later date."

Mom Uses Nitrogen Gas To Kill Kids, Self

"EAST GREENBUSH, NY — A murder/suicide led to the deaths of three people in East Greenbush Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

"East Greenbush Police said they responded to 58 Rockrose Drive at around 1:30 a.m., where three people have been pronounced dead, including two children.

"During a press conference, the East Greenbush Chief of Police released details surrounding the case.

"Officials say that Angela Mtambu, the deceased adult, was grieving after her son took his own life in the same home on April 1, 2014. He was a 23-year-old who had served in the military. Bernard Pamberi, the brother Mtambu, explained that the mother of three had a tough time coming to terms with her son’s death.

"`She was doing all this grieving, she couldn't take it,` said Pamberi.

"According to police, on June 1 Mtambu threatened to harm her daughters in the Rockrose Drive home. She was driving from Texas when the threat was made, while her children were being taken care of in East Greenbush by Pamberi.

"While Mtambu drove to New York, she was intercepted in Pennsylvania by State Police. She was then detained and held for a 20-day mental health evaluation.

"After 20 days in confinement and because no order of protection was issued, Mtambu was released after the evaluation, and authorities say it was up to family members to determine the conditions of her engagement with the children.

"Police say that on June 29, family members allowed Mtambu to sleep in the same room as her children. On June 30, the mother and daughters went to bed at 10 p.m. Family members say they woke up at 1:20 a.m. to the sound of gas escaping the room the trio was in.

"Pamberi contacted police when he could not get inside the bedroom. He said that when they were finally inside the room, they found plastic bags and gas tanks. The East Greenbush Chief of Police says the gas has been identified as compressed nitrogen.

"`There she was with the two children with the plastic bag, and there were two gas tanks there,` said Pamberi.

"Pamberi’s two nieces, 11-year-old Cara and 6-year-old Kutenda were pronounced dead at the hospital."

Bodies Found, But No Sign Of Struggle

"ORLAND, CA — The Glenn County Sheriff-Coroner's Office has identified the two people found dead from a possible murder/suicide at an Orland residence on Friday.

"Carlos Jauregui-Ibarra, 31, and his wife Daniela Garcia Chevez, 24, were found dead in the 300 block of Chapman Street, said Orland Police Chief J.C. Tolle.

"`We are treating this as a double homicide, but it is looking more like one (of the deceased) is a suicide,` Tolle said.

"Tolle said officers were sent to the house just after 1 p.m. Friday, after a family member called about finding the hanging body of a man.

"Officers entered the house and found Jauregui-Ibarra.

"After searching the rest of the home, they found Chevaz, but no details are being provided about her cause of death.

"`An autopsy will be done today, but we do have an idea,` Tolle said.

"He said nothing in the home appeared out of the ordinary, and there were no signs of a struggle.

"The couple had two children, ages 5 and 3, but they were not in the home to witness their parents' death."

Chatty Neighbors Discuss Dead Couple With Reporters

"WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Two people are dead after a murder/suicide was reported at a home in Windsor Locks on Monday afternoon, police said.

"Officers were called to a home on 37 Webb Street around 1:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located the body of a man and woman.

"Investigators said they believe a husband shot his wife and then killed himself. Police said the murder/suicide was `domestic-related` and there was `no danger to the greater community.`

"Neighbors told [reporters] the couple, which was in their 40s, had lived at the home for years and had children, possibly three.

"`The boy rides by on his bike,` said Peter Lefevre, of Windsor Locks. `The girl plays in the yard. But the parents I have never talked to them. They walk by and I say 'hi,' but they don't say much.`

"Eyewitness News has learned the husband was home a lot and neighbors said he was unemployed for a while.

"`I am sad, if that's him,` said neighbor Doreen Pilotte. `I am sad that he sat on his porch and no one knew he was hurting so much.`

"Neighbors said the family has lived on the street for at least 10 years.

"`It's sad. It's a sad world we live in, sad state of affairs we live in these days,` said neighbor Dave Vaicunas.

"Neighbors also said the husband was sitting on the front steps on Monday morning, and while they have lived there for 10 years or more, they mostly kept to themselves.

"The murder/suicide remains under investigation and police would not comment further about the incident."
