No Motive In Bar Shooting

"JONES VALLEY, CA — Authorities have released the identities of two men dead in what Sheriff's deputies are calling a murder-suicide in Jones Valley Thursday night.

"Sheriff's officials report a witness told them John Grant, 62, walked into the Idle Hour Bar in Jones Valley and shot Ronald Dunlap, 50, in the head at close range.

"Shasta County Sheriff's officials said they received reports of shots fired and responded just after 6:00 PM. When they arrived on scene they found Dunlap dead.

"According to a press release, investigators found the suspect dead of a self-inflicted gun shot wound. His body was found at the Jones Valley Campground area of Pollution Point around 6:40 p.m.

"As of early Friday morning, now any motive in the shootings remains unclear .Captain Jeff Foster with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit says those witnesses have told officers about possible motives but officials say it takes a while to get all the stories straight.

"`Any time you go to one of these kinds of scenes you have the three, four, five different versions of what happened, so we need things to calm down, we need to get them in a sterile environment and talk to them, just ask them what happened.` Captain Foster said.

"Detectives said Thursday night they expected witness interviews to last well into the night and into Friday morning as they try to put everything together.

"Captain Foster says officials are confident there is no danger to the public."
