Police Investigate Death Of "Quiet Couple"

"LOUISVILLE, KY — The investigation continues into a murder-suicide in the Newburg area.

"Louisville Metro Police said 46-year-old Robert Levine shot his girlfriend then turned the gun on himself.

"The shooting happened in the 5000 block of Roederer Drive off Poplar Level Road about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

"Levine's girlfriend, 45-year-old Amy Vick, was originally expected to survive, but died from her injuries.

"She had just moved in with Levine a few months ago along with her son and daughter who police said were home at the time of shooting.

"Now, detectives are trying to figure out what led to the violence.

"`I was watching the game and I hear these shots and I thought he, there's a cat that runs around here a lot, so I thought he'd probably shot the cat,` said next-door neighbor James Fugget Sr. `It was the little girl, the girl who'd come out and said it was her mother that had been shot.`

"According to police, last night was their first trip to the home for the woman's children.

"Neighbors said the couple was quiet and kept to themselves.

"`Never had no arguments or anything,` said Fugget.

"Levine died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head."
