Slasher Returns After Cops Leave

"COLUMBUS, OH — A man fatally stabbed his girlfriend and then tried to kill himself at a University District duplex early this morning, Columbus police said.

"Police had visited the address a half-hour earlier on a report of an argument.

"Just after 2 a.m., Leslie J. Manner, 39, was found by police inside 2261 Indiana Ave. She had been stabbed and was pronounced dead by medics at 2:25 a.m.

"Jerry A. Delong, 26, was found bleeding from apparently self-inflicted stab wounds and was taken to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, police said. He is expected to survive, and will be charged with murder.

"Officers had been called to the apartment before the stabbing, at 1:23 a.m., said Sgt. Rich Weiner, a police spokesman.

"Manner told a 911 dispatcher that `her drunk boyfriend was throwing trash all over the bed and on the floor,` Weiner said.

"Officers talked to both Manner and Delong and saw no evidence that any violence had occurred, Weiner said. Delong agreed to leave the apartment, and officers saw him walk down the street.

"They left at 1:40 a.m. Within a half-hour, police were again called by a neighbor who heard screaming."
