The Phone Went Dead

"Meriden, CT - A woman's voice was on the 911 line at the Meriden police department, screaming, when gunshots were fired. `Then the phone went dead,` said Sgt. Glenn Milslagle.

"The call came in about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday from a home at 54 Spice Hill Road.

"The SWAT team responded and found a man and a woman dead inside the home.

"The deaths are being treated as a murder-suicide.

"Police found the bodies of a 32-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man in a family room. Both had gunshot wounds, said police, and the man had a gun in his hand.

"The couple was dating, according to police. They were later identified as Michelle Barrows and James Canty, and police indicated that both lived at the same address."
