Man And Child Found Dead In Cinema Parking Lot

"MERIDIAN, ID — Police say two people are dead - a man and a little girl. Witnesses found the pair shot dead in the parking lot of the Majestic Theatre on Overland Road just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

"Officers say the murder/suicide happened sometime between 4:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. but are not sure exactly when it happened. Witnesses saw the bodies in a late-model red Chevrolet Cavalier and called police at 6:30 p.m.

"Officers say the car the bodies were found in was not in the parking lot before 4:45 p.m. At this time they say there are no known witnesses to the crime.

"Meridian Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea says when officers arrived on scene they found the bodies of a man in his thirties and a girl between the ages of 3 and 5. Police have not released the names of the man and girl, but did say he was from Boise.

"A large number of police units arrived on scene to investigate as well as crews from the Meridian Fire Department providing assistance. Crews cordoned off the parking lot while they investigated. Representatives from the Ada County Coroner’s Office also responded and helped remove the bodies from the scene at about 9 p.m.

"The theater and other businesses remained open."
