Dispute Between Father & Son Ends In Gunfire

"CARENCRO, LA — Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office has released the names of the two men killed in what they are calling a murder/suicide that occurred Sunday morning outside Carencro.

"Deputies responded to a report of gunshots in the 100 block of Nanoke Lane, in Lafayette Parish just outside the Carencro city limits.

"According to LPSO Public Information Officer Kip Judice, Harold Pope, 61, was shot and killed after a confrontation with his son, Jeremy Pope, 38. Judice said the younger Pope died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"`From witnesses, we hear there was an ongoing dispute between the father and the son,` Judice said Monday afternoon. `The incident occurred at father's home, so the only thing we can surmise is that the son confronted father at his home, shot the father and then killed himself.`

"Deputies are not seeking any other suspects in the case."
