Two Dead, But Shooter A Mystery

"MESA, AZ — A man and a woman were found dead in their Mesa apartment on Saturday afternoon in what police believe to be a murder/suicide, officials said.

"Mesa police officers responded to a call around 11:40 am at the Metro on Main Apartments on 944 Main Street. A family member reported a man and woman, both in their early 20s, were lying unresponsive on the floor.

"The family member was unable to enter the locked apartment after neighbors reportedly heard gunfire, officials said

"Officers kicked down the door and found the couple with fatal gunshot wounds and a handgun nearby, police said.

"It is unknown who was the shooter, said Tony Landato with the Mesa Police Department.

"The couple has a 4-year-old boy together, but it is not known if they are married, Landato said.

"The man reportedly took his child to a neighbor around 10:30 am and called the family member to pick the boy up, Mesa police said.

"The man and woman have been identified by police, and their names will be released Sunday, officials said.

"The investigation is ongoing."
