Bodies Found In Barricaded Home
"REPUBLIC, WA - Two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide that was reported to officials very early Saturday morning, Aug. 29.
"Dead are Jessica Armstrong and Chad Olson, according to Ferry County Coroner Mike Sandona.
"The Washington State Patrol has been called in to investigate.
"The two had apparently been married for about two months, but were separated, Sandona said.
"It was unclear who was instigating the separation, he said.
"The shooting happened at Olson's parents' house. Olson's brother, who lives in a separate residence on the property, suspected something was amiss and discovered the doors to the home were barricaded from the inside, so he called authorities, Sandona said.

"Autopsies are scheduled Monday on both bodies, he said.
"Olson, 21, recently was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree malicious mischief and third-degree theft after allegedly stealing a case of whiskey from the state liquor store in Republic June 25."

Murder/Suicide Suspected In "Horrific" Trailer Park Killings
"BRUNSWICK, GA - Police are investigating the deaths of seven people found Saturday in a mobile home as a murder-suicide involving mostly members of one family, a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation [said].
"The law enforcement source and a woman familiar with the victims and the trailer park in the New Hope Plantation, said most of the victims were family members of Rusty Toler, a hard-working, soft-spoken man who loved his children.
"Toler and three of his four children are among those dead, while a fourth child is hospitalized in critical condition, said the woman who knows the family. Another gravely wounded victim, said to be a grandchild of Toler's, is also hospitalized, the woman said.
"The other dead include a man and woman who are either direct siblings or half-brother and half-sister to Toler. A seventh victim was the boyfriend of one of Toler's daughters, according to the source.
"Tight-lipped Glynn County police chief Matt Doering was planning a news conference today to further discuss what he described as a `horrific` scene in the area's worst carnage ever.
"The son of one of the victims found them about 8 a.m. Saturday in the mobile home park 10 miles north of Brunswick. State medical examiners are working today to determine how the victims were killed.
"The survivors were taken to a Savannah hospital for treatment, and the seven bodies are at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Savannah crime lab for autopsies.
"Doering reported no arrests Saturday night and said then he was unsure if the person or persons responsible for the killings are among the dead - or still on the loose.
"`Do I believe there's someone else out there? The answer is I don't know, I wish I could tell you more,` Doering said.
"Some of the victims have been tentatively identified, but Doering said Saturday he would release no names or ages until the next of kin were notified. He said there were some school-age children and middle-age adults among the victims.
"County Coroner Jimmy Durden said the victims appeared to have been killed overnight. Their bodies were discovered lying on the floor and beds inside the mobile home.
"Because of the severity of the injuries, their identities and manner in which they were slain could not be readily determined."

"Long-Standing Disagreement" Ends Violently
"Farmington Hills, MI - Shocked family members are questioning why a 56-year-old Farmington Hills man shot his son-in-law in the head before killing himself Wednesday at a city apartment complex, according to police.
"The man and his 35-year-old son-in-law had experienced disagreements, Farmington Hills Police Lt. Dave Stasch said this morning. But the man’s daughter – the murder victim’s wife – never anticipated the issues would lead to the tragedy that unfolded just after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
"`There was a long-standing disagreement with the father-in-law and her husband, but they were still on speaking terms and no one expected this,` Stasch said.
"The shooting took place at 7:15 p.m. in the couple’s first-floor unit in the Strawberry Lane Apartments on Middlebelt south of 12 Mile. The daughter was at her parents’ home with her mother when her father drove off to her apartment, Stasch said.
"`He left the home, but there was no argument, no disagreement, no inkling this was going to happen,` Stasch said.
"But residents at the complex heard shots ring out at 7:15 p.m. in the apartment, where police discovered the two men with gunshot wounds to the head, he said, adding that the couple has at least one child, but no one else was at the apartment during the shooting."

End Of A Sad Affair
"BARTOW, FL - The dead bodies of a 57-year-old man and his 21-year-old girlfriend were found in an orange grove near the Winter Haven Airport this morning in what Sheriff Grady Judd said has `the appearance of a murder-suicide.`
"Earlier today, sheriff’s officials made a public appeal for information about John `Jack` M. Nicholson and Kristy Lisenby after witnesses reported seeing Nicholson shoot Lisenby Tuesday afternoon.
"According to the Sheriff’s Office, about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nicholson drove through an area near Jarrett Gordon Ford looking for Lisenby. The Ford dealership is located at 3015 Lake Alfred Road.
"Nicholson threatened to kill a friend of Lisenby’s if they didn’t tell him where she was. However, Nicholson drove off without hurting anyone.
"About an hour later, Nicholson returned and this time found Lisenby standing in the roadway.
"Witnesses told detectives they saw Lisenby walk to the vehicle and lean into the passenger window. Witnesses say they saw the driver, later identified as Nicholson, point a gun at Lisenby. Witnesses said they heard a gunshot and saw Lisenby fall to the ground.
"`It took us off guard. We were at the highest advantage point to see (what was happening,)` said Stuart Seifreid, an employee at the Jarrett Gordon dealership. Some witnesses took pictures of Nicholson’s vehicle with cell phone cameras.
"After the gunshot, Nicholson got out of his vehicle, went around it, picked up Lisenby and put her in the passenger seat, telling witnesses he was taking her to the hospital, Judd said.
"Detectives checked area hospitals and no one matching Lisenby’s description had been treated.
"Detectives went to Nicholson’s home at 80 Perch St., in Winter Haven, but could find no one home.
"About 10 a.m. today, a grove worker found Nicholson and Lisenby’s bodies on the ground on either side of Nicholson’s vehicle in an area at Pearce Road and Lakeview Court Northwest near the airport.
"Lisenby has a criminal history. A check of the Polk County Jail Web site shows she was arrested and charged with cocaine possession in March 2007 and again for cocaine possession in August 2008. In April she was in jail for a day for violating probation.
"No criminal history could be found for Nicholson."

Heavy Artillery Fails To Stop Double Murder/Suicide
"MOORESBURG, TN - Although the official causes of death are pending completion of autopsies, Hawkins County investigators believe two men and a woman found deceased early Tuesday morning at a Mooresburg residence were the result of a double murder/suicide.
"Hawkins County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the residence at 443 Mooresburg Springs Road shortly before 8 p.m. Monday on a domestic disturbance, and shortly upon their arrival reportedly heard gunshots.
"The building was originally described as a barn, but deputies later found out [it] was a residence, although the ground floor was either unfinished or being utilized for storage.
"`Upon their arrival deputies heard voices inside, announced their arrival, and at that point heard several gunshots from inside the residence,` HCSO Lt. Detective Randy Collier said. `Deputies then backed off and took up position. At that time an unknown male came to the upstairs window displaying a gun and discharged the firearm. We don't know the direction (of that gunshot), and that's the last contact we had with anyone in the home.`
"Collier said that deputies unsuccessfully attempted to make contact with the people inside the building, and around 11:30 p.m. the HCSO Tactical Unit entered the ground floor and discovered a deceased male and female.
"`At that point they heard footsteps upstairs and then backed off to attempt to establish communications,` Collier said.
"In the early morning hours the HCSO's armored personnel carrier was deployed at the scene. Later Morristown police arrived with their robotic surveillance unit, although the layout of the building prevented the robot from reaching areas where the suspect might have been.
"The HCSO Tactical Unit later entered the residence, and the call came over the police radio at 4:35 a.m. that the residence had been secured. That's when the suspected shooter was discovered deceased on the second floor, Collier said.
"In the hours between the arrival of deputies and the discovery of the third body, authorities had described the incident as a standoff and a possible hostage situation. Dozens of police officers responded to the scene from Hawkins, Hamblen, Grainger and Hancock counties, as well as the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and attorney general investigators.
"As many as eight ambulances at one time and multiple rescue helicopters also responded to the scene and were on standby throughout the ordeal. Local volunteer firefighters directed traffic throughout the night where Route 31 was reduced to one lane due to being blocked by the tractor trailer that hauled in the armored personnel carrier.
"At least three nearby residences on Mooresburg Springs Road were evacuated until the scene was secured."

High Profile Murder Becomes Murder/Suicide
"VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Canadian police say fugitive murder suspect and reality show contestant Ryan Jenkins was found dead Sunday of an apparent suicide in a motel in British Columbia.
"Sgt. Duncan Pound of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police border integrity unit says police responded to a call about a dead person in Hope, east of Vancouver, and then called investigators who were part of the massive manhunt for Jenkins.
"The real estate developer and investor was wanted in California on first-degree murder charges after the mutilated body of his ex-wife was found in a trash bin in Buena Park, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles.
"The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are `now able to confirm that a deceased person that was found in a motel in Hope, British Columbia is, in fact, Ryan Jenkins,` Pound said.
"`At this present time the investigation into the circumstances of his death is continuing, but preliminary evidence suggests that he took his own life. Any further details will not be released at this time as this investigation remains in its infancy.`
"Jenkins' body was found in The Thunderbird Motel on a secluded road on the outskirts of Hope B.C. at the entrance to the province's mountainous interior. His body was found in a room at the out-of-the-way motel.
"The Thunderbird was surrounded by police with a coroner's van, said Mark Lojeski who works at the nearby Lucky Strike Motel.
"Jenkins, 32, disappeared last week but his boat was found Wednesday at a marina not far from the U.S.-Canada border south of Vancouver.
"Jenkins had apparently hanged himself, said Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney's Office in California, which is contact with Canadian police. Crime scene investigators identified Jenkins through fingerprints, she said.
"Pound says police don't yet know how long Jenkins was at the motel before his body was discovered."

"Angry" Man Carries Out Deadly Threat
"Chicago, IL - Johnson Tyler, 52, was killed early Tuesday in her home in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. Her estranged husband, Gardell Tyler, 57, shot her multiple times, then shot and killed himself a few hours later at his workplace, police said.
"The couple had been together for more than 30 years but were married for just about a decade, family members said.
"For the last week Tyler told those close to him he was angry and wanted to kill his estranged wife and himself, a police source said.
"Family members said Johnson Tyler had just finished cooking when Tyler stopped by.
"Johnson Tyler usually worked until 10:30 p.m. for Securitas, a company that provides security for the CTA, among others.
"She cooked when she got home for her three children and two grandchildren who lived with her, so they had something to eat the next evening, said her brother, Larry Sistrunk. She had two other children and six more grandchildren who lived elsewhere.
"Though she and Tyler separated at the beginning of the year, she let him stop by to see the children and grandchildren, Sistrunk said.
"As Johnson Tyler and her estranged husband were talking in a bedroom early Tuesday, her adult children hanging out on the front porch heard them arguing and then gunshots.
"Their son Isaiah Tyler bolted into the house and kicked in the bedroom door, his uncle said.
"`That's when he seen his mother on the ground and he was trying to stop [his father] from shooting again,` Sistrunk said.
"Tyler managed to escape, running out the back door and fleeing in his pickup truck. Police who responded about 1 a.m. to a call of shots fired in the 5200 block of West Ferdinand Street found Johnson Tyler shot in the back.
"Just before 5 a.m., police went to an apartment building in the 1800 block of South Pulaski Road to try to take Tyler into custody. He had gone to hide out where he worked in maintenance. "Bellevue Police `pinged` the man's cellphone and had an approximate location of San Juan Island.
"A boat with the United States Coast Guard located the man's boat as it left Friday Harbor on San Juan Island and followed it to the west side of nearby Orcas Island.
"As the Coast Guard approached the boat, the man ran below deck, despite being ordered to stay topside.
"A shot was heard by the Coast Guard officials, who jumped onboard and found the man still alive but seriously wounded.
"EMTs with the Coast Guard performed CPR but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The San Juan County Sheriff's Office arrived and found both the man and a woman dead onboard the powerboat.
"The woman appears to have died earlier in the day.
"The boat has been towed to Friday Harbor. It will be searched by police once a search warrant is cleared.
"Both the man and woman's bodies were taken to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's office in Everett for autopsies.
"No names have been released."

Long Distance Welfare Check
"Boise, ID - Early Monday morning, police received a request from out of state to perform a welfare check.
"Family members concerned that something bad may have happened to their loved ones and that's exactly what police found upon entering a townhouse in southeast Boise.
"`And they found an elderly woman deceased and they found an elderly man with some very critical, life-threatening injuries,` said Lynn Hightower, Boise Police spokesperson.
"The man was taken to the hospital where he later died.
"What happened is still unknown, but Hightower says the woman sustained suspicious injuries, although she won't say what caused the likely fatal wounds.
"`I can say that there is a weapon that detectives found on scene,` Hightower said.
"It's all quite shocking to neighbors, who never expected to wake up to police, paramedics, and even the coroner working at the house across the street.
"`They were very nice neighbors, very quiet, stayed to themselves. Just the type of neighbors you really enjoy having,` said Jack Logan.
"He also says he saw the man in question on Sunday.
"`I saw Bill walking his dog last night. I waved to him and as far as I knew everything seemed fine and dandy,` Logan said.
"But things for this couple may have been more difficult than many fully understood.
"`You have to be sympathetic to those folks. They were really in bad shape,` said Ralph Hansen.
"Hansen said the two were in failing health, and other neighbors living next door to the couple say the husband had developed Parkinson's disease, which made it hard to take care of his ailing wife.
"But no one seemed to know just how desperate their situation had really become.
"`Nobody on Arrowrock Lane expected anything like this,` said Jack Logan."
