Cop Execution Ends With Shooter's Suicide
"BROOKLYN, NY — Two NYPD cops were executed Saturday after a career criminal drove from Baltimore to Brooklyn to kill police officers in a twisted bid to avenge the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown.
"`They were, quite simply, assassinated,` a shaken NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said Saturday night.
"The shooter—identified as Ismaaiyl Brinsley—boasted about wanting to murder cops in the hours before he ambushed the officers outside the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant about 2:45 p.m.
"The officers—Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32—were in the area as part of a push to beef up cops’ presence near violence-plagued housing projects.
"`The perp came out of the houses, walked up behind the car and lit them up,` a high-ranking police official told the Daily News.
"Right after Brinsley fired the fatal shots, he sprinted around the corner to the G line subway station at Myrtle-Willoughby Aves., with cops in close pursuit.
"Brinsley disappeared inside the station, then shot himself in the head on a platform, police said.
"The slayings capped a bloody daylong crime spree for Brinsley.
"Hours before he showed up in Brooklyn, Brinsley shot his ex-girlfriend at about 5:45 a.m. in Owings Mills, Md., about 15 miles from Baltimore.
"The 29-year-old woman, who was hit in the stomach, underwent surgery and was expected to survive, a family member told The News."

Man Walks In Front Of Train After Dismembering Mother
"FARMINGDALE, NY — A psychotic killer lopped off his mother’s head and dumped her bloody corpse on a Long Island street before jumping in front of a LIRR train in a grisly murder/suicide.
"Derek Ward butchered his mother, Patricia, a 66-year-old college professor, for no apparent reason on Tuesday, authorities said. Ward, a 35-year-old who battled psychiatric problems for the past decade, sat for a short period of time with his mother’s headless corpse inside their gore-spattered Farmingdale apartment prior to taking his own life, Nassau County police Detective Lt. John Azzata said.
“`There were multiple signs of trauma, multiple stab wounds, broken ribs,` the detective said at a news conference. `The weapon used was believed to be a knife. That knife was recovered.`
"As 8 p.m. drew near Tuesday night, Derek Ward dragged his mother’s headless corpse out of their second-floor home, down a staircase, through the building lobby and onto the street, Azzata said. He also carried her head outside.
"After leaving his mother’s torso and head on either side of Secatogue Road, he walked three blocks to the vicinity of the Clinton St. crossing for the Long Island Rail Road and took a dive in front of an oncoming eastbound train.
"Patricia Ward was last seen about four hours before her body was abandoned."

"BUFFALO, NY — A couple with a long history of domestic violence were found shot to death in the middle of an Allentown street this morning apparent victims of a murder/suicide, Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said.
"Police believe the man and woman were recently married, but had a long-standing relationship that was marked by repeated incidents of domestic violence.
"The bodies of the man and woman believed to be in their mid-40s were lying in the street when police arrived at 49 College St. at approximately 7:40 a.m., Derenda said during a late morning press conference outside Buffalo Police Headquarters on Franklin Street.

"They were married not too long ago, said police officials, who have not released the names of the dead.

Mom Uses Nitrogen Gas To Kill Kids, Self
"EAST GREENBUSH, NY — A murder/suicide led to the deaths of three people in East Greenbush Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
"East Greenbush Police said they responded to 58 Rockrose Drive at around 1:30 a.m., where three people have been pronounced dead, including two children.
"During a press conference, the East Greenbush Chief of Police released details surrounding the case.
"Officials say that Angela Mtambu, the deceased adult, was grieving after her son took his own life in the same home on April 1, 2014. He was a 23-year-old who had served in the military. Bernard Pamberi, the brother Mtambu, explained that the mother of three had a tough time coming to terms with her son’s death.
"`She was doing all this grieving, she couldn't take it,` said Pamberi.
"According to police, on June 1 Mtambu threatened to harm her daughters in the Rockrose Drive home. She was driving from Texas when the threat was made, while her children were being taken care of in East Greenbush by Pamberi.
"While Mtambu drove to New York, she was intercepted in Pennsylvania by State Police. She was then detained and held for a 20-day mental health evaluation.
"After 20 days in confinement and because no order of protection was issued, Mtambu was released after the evaluation, and authorities say it was up to family members to determine the conditions of her engagement with the children.
"Police say that on June 29, family members allowed Mtambu to sleep in the same room as her children. On June 30, the mother and daughters went to bed at 10 p.m. Family members say they woke up at 1:20 a.m. to the sound of gas escaping the room the trio was in.
"Pamberi contacted police when he could not get inside the bedroom. He said that when they were finally inside the room, they found plastic bags and gas tanks. The East Greenbush Chief of Police says the gas has been identified as compressed nitrogen.
"`There she was with the two children with the plastic bag, and there were two gas tanks there,` said Pamberi.
"Pamberi’s two nieces, 11-year-old Cara and 6-year-old Kutenda were pronounced dead at the hospital."

"According to the New York Police Department, an unidentified gunman walked into a C&A Iron Works building in Gowanus, Brooklyn, Monday morning and stated that he wanted a job. Within five minutes, witnesses said that he pulled out a gun and shot two people.
"A C&A Iron Works employee named Marcos Chantes told the New York Post that the suspect had previously been denied employment at the location. Chantes said that the man asked about a job and was directed to go speak to the manager.

Couple Jumps Off Bridge After Murdering Relative
"SUFFERN, NY — An apparent murder and double suicide that ended with a Suffern, N.Y., couple leaping from the George Washington Bridge on Monday was rooted in a months-long family dispute over money and possible drug use, police said Wednesday.
"Gary Crockett, 41, and his girlfriend, Nicki Hunt, 40, jumped off the bridge around 11 a.m. Monday. Hours later, a relative found the body of Hunt's 70-year-old uncle, William Valenti, who had been strangled in his Suffern home.
"The discovery set off a hunt for Valenti's green Chevrolet Malibu. When Suffern police heard that a couple in their forties jumped off the bridge, they immediately suspected that the suicides were related to the murder, Suffern Police Chief Clarke Osborn said at a news conference Wednesday morning.
"Valenti’s body was discovered in the bedroom at 88 Washington Ave. where he had lived with Crockett and Hunt, police said. The couple appeared to have recently taken between $1,000 and $1,500 from Valenti’s bank account through withdrawals and forged checks, police said. Valenti apparently gave them a deadline to repay the money but they didn’t do it.
"Police found two notes written by Hunt at the home. One said she and Crockett took `Uncle Bill` to the hospital. The other was from Hunt to her four children, apologizing for the life they have led and for her actions. Police would not reveal any more details from the note."
