Dead Pair Had History Of "Domestic Altercations"

"METTER, GA — A domestic dispute led to the murder/suicide of a Candler County couple Saturday, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

"The pair were found dead in their home of apparent gunshot wounds. Cyrus Purdiman, assistant special agent in charge of the GBI Statesboro office, said Tuesday that autopsy results Monday indicated Joseph Karpinsky, 44, shot and killed his wife, Janet Karpinsky, 36, and then turned the medium-caliber handgun on himself.

"Both were found dead in the home on Georgia Highway 23 North in Metter between 7:30 and 8 a.m. Saturday by a family member, Purdiman said.

"The couple had a history of domestic altercations, he said."
