Survivalist Couldn't Survive Murder/Suicide
"NORTH BEND, WA — Deputies have found a body believed to be that of accused double murderer Peter Keller in the deep woods bunker where he had apparently holed up after killing his wife and daughter.
"A pistol and a large quantity of blood were seen near the body, said King County Sheriff Steve Strachan. Investigators later determined that the man had died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
"The body was found at about 9:45 a.m. Saturday after a SWAT team was able to maneuver in with explosives and blow a portion of the roof off the heavily fortified bunker, said King County sheriff's spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West.
"Deputies then entered the bunker, where they discovered a body which they said appeared to be Keller. It appeared as though he had died some hours before, West said.
"Keller had not been seen since the fire at his North Bend-area home on Sunday led responders to discover the bodies of his wife and daughter.
"The King County medical examiner determined Kaylene Keller, 18, and her mother, Lynnettee Keller, 41, both died from gunshots to the head before the fire started. Their bodies were found in their bedrooms.
"Court documents described Keller as a loner who has a survivalist mentality and has been stockpiling supplies in the woods.
"If he had lived, Keller would have faced charges of first-degree murder and first-degree arson.
"The fire at Keller's home was stopped before the house burned down, and authorities said they found seven gasoline cans placed in different areas of the home."

Shooter Planned Deadly Confrontation
"MODESTO, CA — Authorities confirmed the identity of the man responsible for the shooting deaths of a deputy and locksmith in Modesto and other details, including reports that the man wore a bulletproof vest and a gas mask before shooting himself with a shotgun, police said.
"The Stanislaus County Coroner's Office said Jim Richard Ferrario, 45, was the body that burned inside the complex at the 2100 block of Chrysler Drive, after an hours-long standoff in north Modesto.
"Ferrario is suspected of shooting and killing deputy Deputy Robert `Bob` Paris and Locksmith Glendon Engert before barricading himself inside his residence.
"The official cause of death is a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Modesto Police Department said.
"Based upon gathered evidence located inside the home, police said that indicators suggest Ferrario was planning a deadly confrontation with law enforcement when they served him an eviction notice last Thursday.
"The sheriff's department was in the process of formally evicting Ferrario. They had posted a notice of eviction five days before the shooting on Ferrario's front door, police said.
"The hours-long standoff reached another peak when a fire ignited inside the home. The Modesto Fire Department is still investigating the fire, but have ruled out the possibility of the fire being caused by an electrical malfunction or natural gas.
"Ferrario was later found inside a bathroom with a stock of weapons and ammunition, including 22 firearms, 17 of which were rifles and shotguns as well other high-power guns. There were more than 500 rounds of ammunition and a police scanner."

Trip To Divorce Lawyer's Office Ends In Murder/Suicide
"PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma woman's visit to a divorce attorney Sunday afternoon ended in violence when, police said, her estranged husband shot and fatally wounded her on a downtown side street before killing himself.
"The 2 p.m. shooting happened in front of 10 Keller St., a small office building where the woman had been visiting the attorney, said Petaluma police Lt. Tim Lyons.
"Police did not release the names of the two people involved or confirm their marital status, but friends of the family identified them as Kevin Conover, 41, and Kim Conover, 43.
"Kevin Conover died at 5 p.m. at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Police identified him as the shooter and said his wound appears to have been self-inflicted.
"Kim Conover was hospitalized in critical condition and died at 9 p.m. Sunday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
"She was a second-grade teacher at Meadow Elementary School and mother of four children, including a twin boy and girl younger than than 2 years old that she had with her husband, and two teenage girls.
"Kevin Conover graduated from Petaluma High School in 1988, a year after Kim Conover.
Friends of the couple who were at the shooting scene Sunday said the pair had been experiencing marital troubles. Some said they were in the process of getting a divorce.
"The two had apparently arrived separately to the office on Keller Street. Kevin Conover's car was parked in a lot nearby while Kim Conover's car was parked in front
of the office.
"When police arrived, they found the two lying in the street and dragged them to safety, believing that a third person may have been involved.
"Police at the scene later identified that third person as Jeff Zimmerman, the divorce attorney who met with Kim Conover, and who police said witnessed the shooting. Zimmerman was led away for questioning in handcuffs, a procedure police described as routine in such cases.
"No other person was believed to be involved, Lyons said."

Gawker Describes Scene Of Murder/Suicide
"SAN JOSE, CA — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide Saturday in a shopping center on the 1000 block of East Capitol Expressway, near McLaughlin Avenue authorities said.
"At 9:32 a.m., officers responded to 911 calls and found a man and a woman suffering from a single gunshot wound in a parking lot outside Starbucks in South San Jose, Officer Jose Garcia said.
"Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Garcia said.
"`I heard a pop,` said Corey Rentie, who was reading a Bible in a nearby McDonald's at the time of the shooting. `I jumped up out of my seat to see what happened.`

Father And Daughter Dead In Murder/Suicide
"JESUP, GA — Two Sunday night shooting deaths in Jesup are thought to have resulted when a man shot his adult daughter then himself, investigators said.
"Officers responding to a 911 call just after 7 p.m. Sunday found Clarissa Jackson, 27, at a neighbor’s house with multiple gunshot wounds, Jesup Police Chief Glenn Takaki said.
"Jackson lived with her father, Randy Roberson, 60, at 256 Gilford Street and had run next door after she was shot, Takaki said today.
"`She told them who shot her and they called for help,` said Mike McDaniel, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Kingsland office, which is investigating the deaths.
"Takaki said a medical evacuation helicopter had lifted off with Jackson bound for a Savannah trauma center, `but for some reason, they diverted to Wayne Memorial Hospital,` he said.
"A short time later, Jackson was pronounced dead the Jesup hospital, he said.
"Meanwhile, officers believed that Roberson was still inside his residence and there was information that he was armed, Takaki said.
"The Jesup police and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office secured the house until the Georgia State Patrol SWAT team arrived and took over the scene, Takaki said.
"`Sometime after 1 a.m., they went in and found him deceased,` Takaki said.
"There was no one else in the house, he said.
"Although he declined to speculate on a motive, McDaniel said police had responded a number of times to domestic disturbances at Roberson’s house."
