Newlyweds Found Dead In Home
"TABOR CITY, NC — The bodies of a newlywed couple were found in their bedroom Monday morning in an apparent murder-suicide, Capt. David Nobles of the Columbus County Sheriff's Office said.
"Robert Edward Hewett Jr., 45, and Farrah Faith Prince, 36, were pronounced dead at their home on Spivey Road, Nobles said.

Woman Kills Daughter, Self After Shootout With Cop
"MOUNTAIN CITY, TN — A Johnson County woman and her 6-year-old daughter are dead in what authorities believe to be a murder/suicide.
"Johnson County Sheriff Michael Reece said the murder/suicide was the result after a shootout took place in Johnson County on Saturday night.
"He said an officer arrived at 1235 McEwen Ranch Road at just after 10 on Saturday night with emergency medical services in response to a shooting.
"Reece said his officer found Mark Johnson, 50, at his neighbor’s house, shot in the hand and stomach before he approached Johnson’s residence. The officer then saw a woman on the porch, who was later identified as Johnson’s 31-year-old girlfriend, Heather Buchanan.
"Buchanan fired at the officer twice, causing him to take cover until more officers arrived, allowing Buchanan to re-enter the house, Reece said.
"Upon entering the house, officers learned the woman had escaped into the woods behind the house. After speaking with neighbors at around 2 a.m., officers learned the woman had her 6-year-old daughter, Alexis Buchanan, with her.
"`We didn’t realize she had her daughter with her until we talked with the neighbor,` Reece said. `That’s when we called the helicopters in.`
"He said officers and a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter looked for the woman and her daughter for the next two hours, until just before 5 a.m., before fog made the search unsafe for the helicopter crew.
"Reece said the sheriff’s department received a call at around 9 on Sunday morning that said the bodies of two females, Buchanan and her daughter, were found dead in a driveway near the residence.
"Both Buchanan and her daughter had been shot in the head in what Reece said he believed to be a murder/suicide."

"Horrific Scene" Found During Welfare Check
"BROOKSVILLE, FL — Hernando Oaks, a golf community about 5 miles south of Brooksville, is a neighborhood where many residents still feel safe behind unlocked doors.
"But on Thursday night, the neighborhood was the site of a `horrific` murder/suicide, according to Sheriff Al Nienhuis.
"The sheriff and forensics teams arrived 4419 Caliquen Drive around 11 a.m. on Friday, as a group of reporters and concerned residents gathered for a press conference.
"Nienhuis said the deceased suspect was Jamil Etayem, 28. Victims were identified as 23-year-old Roseanna Sanson, and her 9-month-old baby, Carter Sanson.
"The family moved into the Hernando Oaks rental home at the end of July from Ohio.
"On Thursday, dispatchers received a call from a concerned neighbor asking deputies to perform a welfare check. The neighbor said the couple had been arguing in the afternoon, and as night fell the caller noticed there was no movement and all the lights were off.
"`Unfortunately when we got here we found all three of the individuals, including the 9-month-old little boy, deceased,` Nienhuis said, adding deputies arrived at 10:14 p.m. Thursday night.
"Nienhuis said a knife or knives were used in the murders. The sheriff said it appeared Etayem killed his girlfriend and her baby, who has a different biological father, before then using the knife to kill himself.
"`It was a pretty horrific scene,` Nienhuis said. `It was shocking even to hardened law enforcement officers, and even our dispatchers are having a little bit of a difficult time with it. Fortunately, we don't see this very often.`
"Nienhuis said the garage door was open, and it appeared the car was in the process of being packed up."

Meeting May Have Been Deadly Ruse
"ROSEVILLE, MN — A Roseville man’s belief that his wife was having an affair with her co-worker may have been the reason he shot and killed the man and then himself outside her workplace, authorities said Friday.
"Roseville police responded to a report of a shooting with two men down at 4:15 p.m. Thursday near the loading dock area of CPI Card Group, a plastic card printer located at 1975 W. County Road B2, a few blocks from the Rosedale Shopping Center.
"Police say Cheng Vang, 44, and his wife, Yong Vang, 37, both from Roseville, traveled to the business, where she works, to meet with her co-worker Joseph Yang, 33, of Brooklyn Park. Once there, Cheng Vang shot Yang multiple times with a semi-automatic pistol before turning the pistol on himself, police said. Yong Vang, who witnessed the shootings, went to the aid of her husband before police arrived.
"The details of the meeting are under investigation, but authorities said in a news release they believe it was prearranged. Yang had a pen and paper documents when he was killed. Near Cheng Vang’s body, investigators found the pistol, which police determined he purchased legally in May.
"`Preliminary investigative interviews indicate Cheng Vang may have believed Joseph Yang and his wife may have been involved in an extramarital affair,` Lt. Lorne Rosand, spokesman for Roseville police, said in a release. Thursday’s `meeting may have only been a ruse to lure Yang to a familiar location. Police speculate that once at CPI Card Group, Vang may have requested Yang to sign documents as a distraction in order to murder him.`
"Autopsies determined that Cheng Vang died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and Yang from multiple gunshot wounds.
"Yong Vang was not injured during the shooting and has been cooperative with police. She is not believed to be an accomplice. The investigation is ongoing."

Roadside Incident Leaves Cop Dead, Homeless Couple Critical
"DRAPER, UT — A day before a Utah police officer was killed, a man suspected of the shooting was looking for money, showing off weapons and behaving strangely, the sister of another victim said.
"`He got out of the car and he was hyper, showing me a gun that has a laser and a machete and knives,` Vicki King said late Tuesday about Timothy Walker.
"Police believe Walker killed Draper police Sgt. Derek Johnson as he sat in his patrol car early Sunday after stopping to investigate a Volvo parked oddly along a road.

"Identification of the victims is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
"Highlands County Communications Center received a 911 call Tuesday morning from a man stating he had killed his wife and was going to kill himself.
"Deputies arrived at 3407 Baxter Ave. in Sebring but couldn't get an answer at the door.

"At about 9:45 a.m., police received a 911 call about a shooting in a home in the 4000 block of Old Bradenton Road in the Bayou Oaks neighborhood.
"Inside the small, peach-colored house, officers discovered Sarah Harnish, 35, shot to death.
"Paramedics airlifted the woman’s 17-month-old girl, Josephine Boice, to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.
"The child’s father went for a scooter ride Sunday morning and, when he returned, heard gunshots and called 911, police said.
"Detectives believe the mother shot her daughter and then killed herself. They have not said what type of firearm she used."
