Unknown Weapon Used In Double Murder/Suicide

"CASPER, WY — A man with an edged weapon killed one person in Casper and a faculty member at Casper College before committing suicide on campus, police said today.

"Police found the suspect and one of the victims in a third-floor classroom in the school's physical science building after responding to a traumatic injury call shortly after 9 a.m., said Police Chief Chris Walsh. The second victim was found in the street on the Hawthorne Avenue near 39th Street.

"Walsh declined to identify the dead, pending notification of their families. He did say all three were adults, and that the suspect wasn’t a current student at the school.

"No one else was injured in the attacks.

"`It’s a troubling day,` Walsh told reporters at a press conference four hours after the attacks. `It’s a day you hope never comes into your community.`

"Police believe there was some relationship between the three dead, but Walsh did not offer any details. He said a motive for the attacks wasn't clear. The attacks don't appear to be `school-motivated,` according to a press release from city officials.

"Investigators believe the suspect acted alone. The community isn’t in any danger, Walsh said.

"Asked about reports from students that a bow and arrow were used in the attacks and suicide, Walsh said an `edged weapon` was used but wouldn't specifically identify what weapons were involved in the attacks. No firearms were used, he said.

"Police have blocked off the 3700-3800 block of Hawthorne Avenue in Casper. Late morning radio scanner traffic and on-scene reports indicated a dead body was on the street."

"Andrade, 30, attached a hose from the exhaust pipe to the inside of the car, killing himself, his daughter, and the dog by carbon monoxide poisoning, according to police.

Killer Left "Rambling" Suicide Note

"ALTON, ME — Scott Reed stabbed his estranged wife, Danielle, to death at their house and met his best friend at a Bangor restaurant before both men were found dead of gunshot wounds at the Reed home on Nov. 19, state police said Sunday.

"Speaking in detail for the first time about the grisly incident, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said investigators don’t yet know whether 43-year-old Scott Reed shot 41-year-old Daniel Young or if Young killed himself, possibly as part of a suicide pact with Reed.

"The three bodies were found at Reed’s rental at 326 Alton Tannery Road by a female friend shortly before 7:30 p.m.

"The men had been close friends for several years and reportedly had talked about suicide. Immediately after returning to Maine from an out-of-state location and killing his wife at her home, Reed sought Young, of Bradley, at his workplace, McCausland said.

"Young owned one of two handguns found at the scene, McCausland said.

"The last of the three autopsies was performed Saturday. The chief medical examiner ruled 39-year-old Danielle Reed’s cause of death was `multiple stab and incised wounds to the neck, including the throat` while Scott Reed and Young died from “close contact gunshot wounds to the head,” McCausland said.

"`This is also a domestic violence incident,` McCausland said.

"Scott Reed `came back to Maine, went to the house and confronted his estranged wife at that point and killed her,` McCausland said. `She is the true victim here.`

"The couple had been married for five years.

"Scott Reed left a suicide note at the scene. McCausland only described it as `rambling.`"

Elderly Shooter Kills 2 Before Committing Suicide

"TORRANCE, CA — Three people died Tuesday in what appears to be a double murder-suicide at a senior citizens' high-rise south of Los Angeles, police said.

"A man in his 80s apparently shot two women shortly after noon before turning the gun on himself in the lobby of the Golden West Tower apartments on Maricopa Street in Torrance, said Sgt. Robert Watt.

"One of the women was an employee of the apartment complex, but victim identities are being withheld until next of kin is notified, Watt said.

"Witness Arturo Ramirez, who works at the Golden West Towers, told the Los Angeles Times he locked himself in an office to call 911 after seeing a man who lived in the facility holding a gun.

"Ramirez said he heard one of the women killed say, `Please, no! Please!` and then heard two gunshots. A final gunshot came a few minutes later.

"Police are still investigating the man's motive, but residents and staff from the senior center [said] that the man had been behaving erratically, and many of them were seeking to have him kicked out of the complex.

"`People knew that he was a little bit off,` Golden Tower employee Alex Galindo told the TV station. `People were warned, but nobody did anything, so I know there's going to be blood on a lot of people's hands. That's all I can say at this point.`

"A handgun was recovered at the scene.

"Watt said the building's management had received complaints about the alleged shooter but police were never alerted.

"Police were trying to obtain surveillance camera recordings of the shooting, he said."

Killer Was Child Sex-Crime Suspect

"CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Tuesday that a man found dead in a northwest Charlotte home earlier this month had fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.

"The deaths of Ida and Clyde Valentine had been under investigation since Nov. 1 when a man called police and said he had found his parents’ bodies in a home on Swift Arrow Lane.

"A search warrant indicated that both had been shot, and that Clyde Valentine had tape on his mouth.

"Police said early on that they believed the deaths were domestic-related, and a spokeswoman later said that detectives were not looking for a suspect.

"On Tuesday, police said their investigation and analysis of evidence at the scene led them to determine the deaths were a murder-suicide. They also said there was no indication that anyone else had been involved in the killings.

"Police said they've shared the results of the investigation with relatives of the Valentines.

"Clyde Valentine had been under investigation earlier this year for child-sex crimes. He was charged in June with taking indecent liberties with a child, and later charged with statutory rape. Police said during the summer that the charges involved a relative.

"At the time of his arrest, Valentine was an electronics teacher at Phillip O’Berry Academy in Charlotte, where he had worked for just over a decade. He was put on leave by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools after being charged in June and was terminated by the district as of Oct. 31."

Police "Not Ruling Out" Murder/Suicide

"ARLINGTON, TX — At around 2:30 this morning, Arlington police dispatched to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Medicine Pass, near State Highway 360 and E. Park Row Drive. There, they found two bodies—that of an 18-year-old woman and a man in his early 20s. The cause of death: `We are not ruling out that it could be a murder-suicide,` says Arlington PD spokesman Sgt. Christopher Cook. `We do not believe there are suspects at large.`

"Cook says police were initially called to the scene by the woman’s family, who, he says, had grown concerned because she failed to show up at a relative’s last night to pick up her `small child.` When police arrived at the scene to conduct a welfare check, Cook says, there was evidence `that led us to believe some kind of struggle had occurred.`

"That evidence, he says, was blood outside the apartment.

"Kicking down the door, officers forced their way into the residence, where they discovered the bodies. No cause of death has been released; the medical examiner is en route to the scene. But Cook says, `We believe a firearm was used.`

"The names of the man and woman have not yet been released. But Arlington police believe the man is the woman’s estranged husband—and the father of the young child. `We don’t know if he lived there,` says Cook, `but the apartment was her primary residence.`"

"INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Police are investigating after a call went out at 6:40 p.m. Friday evening saying two people were shot at ConAgra Foods on Guion Road.

"`We do have two people that are confirmed dead here on the scene,` said Officer Michael Hewitt Friday night.

"`From an eye witness who was sitting in the break room, they said that one employee was in the break room, another employee came in, they sort of made eye contact with each other,` said Hewitt.

"The suspect, who has been identified as 44-year-old Alonzo Laws, then walked out, according to authorities but minutes later came back.

"`While the victim had his back to him standing at a coke machine, the suspect fired several shots at him and then turned the gun on himself.`

"The victim, identified as 45-year-old Anthony Hicks, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital where he died. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the head.

"Investigators are now trying to figure out where the gun came from and why a work break at one of the nation's largest food companies turned deadly.

"`As far as we know right now, they're simply coworkers. As far as why this took place, there's really no information right now that we have,` said Hewitt.

"Investigators are now scanning surveillance video an interviewing other employees to try to piece together what happened."

Bodies Found With Multiple Stab Wounds

"HOQUIAM, WA — Hoquiam officers were called to the 3100 block of Sumner Avenue after a 24-year old Hoquiam man arrived home to find his father lying dead on top of his mother on the kitchen floor.

"There were knives scattered around the bodies and both appeared to have suffered knife wounds.

"The son had spoken to his mother on the phone less than an hour before discovering the bodies. She was planning to drive to another family member’s home but never arrived, prompting the son to return home to check on her.

"There was no sign of forced entry and nothing appeared to be missing from the home.

"Hoquiam officers had recently responded to the home on October 30 regarding a disorderly conduct call. There were no arrests made. This incident was apparently related to an earlier reported incident to the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office.

"Earlier the same day, the sheriff’s office received a report that the husband was accused of a sex offense which had allegedly occurred 12-15 years earlier in Central Park.

"According to Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate of the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department, he was being investigated by detectives. The investigation was ongoing at the time of the homicide.

"The Grays Harbor Coroner’s office conducted autopsies of the couple. The forensic pathologist concluded the wife suffered a defensive wound and several stab wounds which proved fatal. Her death was ruled to be a homicide.

"The pathologist determined her husband died as a result of multiple self-inflicted stab wounds. His death was ruled as a suicide.

"There was no note found at the scene."

Suspected Killer Found Dead Of Probable Overdose

"SAN JOSE, CA — A San Jose man police had been searching for since Friday in connection with his wife's killing was found dead of an apparent suicide in San Benito County on Saturday.

"The body of 50-year-old Troy Edward Nosenzo was discovered inside his parked vehicle on Highway 129, west of Highway 101, shortly after 1 p.m. after an investigation led officers to search for him in that area, according to San Jose Police Sgt. Jason Dwyer.

"`It appears to be a suicide,` he said. `We believe that he probably took sleeping pills.`

"Dwyer said the final determination of the cause of Nosenzo's death will have to be made by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner.

"Nosenzo's wife was found just before 8 p.m. Friday in the entryway of the couple's South San Jose home on 6199 Evangeline Drive. Police still have not formally named her, but records identified her as Patricia Annette Nosenzo, 54.

"The circumstances surrounding the homicide are still under investigation.

"Police said after receiving a 911 hang-up call from the home at 5:38 a.m. Friday, they tried calling back with no success. They didn't immediately check the home because they said the nature of the call was unclear and they had other pressing matters at the time, including nearby auto thefts and a car that had crashed into a home.

"When officers did arrive at the Nosenzo house, they were further delayed by two aggressive dogs in the front yard, forcing them to summon an animal-control official before they could enter the residence. They found the front door unlocked and the victim on the ground. Police then began searching for her husband."

"LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A man is suspected of killing his wife and dog before committing suicide inside their home on La Mirada Street, authorities said.

"The 49-year-old man and his 47-year-old wife were found dead in their home after a co-worker went to check on them Wednesday night, officials said in a statement.

"The two were identified by coroner's officials as Michael and Mendy Brown.

"The couple were found by a co-worker of the husband after the man did not show up for work. The co-worker entered the house through an unlocked door and found the two and their dog downstairs in the house in the 800 block of La Mirada.

"The co-worker went to a neighbor's home and called police at 5:29 p.m.

"When police arrived, they found a handgun. Brown, his wife and dog appeared to have died from gunshot wounds.

"The incident is under investigation, but officers believe Michael Brown shot and killed his wife and dog before turning the weapon on himself."
