One Survives Attempted Double Murder/Suicide


"WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — State police in Chambersburg said they are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened about 5 p.m. Tuesday in Washington Township near the Maryland line.

"Investigators said John Fleagle, 50, shot and killed his wife, 45-year-old Cathy Fleagle, in their home with a handgun.

"John Fleagle also shot and injured Cathy Fleagle's son, 18-year-old Mitchell Robinson, in the arm then Fleagle shot himself, state police said. Her son called 911.

"Washington Township police asked state police to investigate the incident because the Fleagles were affiliated with the department.

"John Fleagle was a former Washington Township police officer and a fire chief. Cathy Fleagle was an office administrator for the department.

"State police said they do not know what John Fleagle's motive was for the shootings."
