Two Dead After Gunfire In Warehouse District

"FORT LAUDERDALE — Near a stretch of warehouses on Northeast 12th Terrace, a man and woman fell dead from gunfire Friday afternoon, causing bystanders to run for cover, witnesses said.

"Although police said it's too early to confirm Friday's deaths were a murder/suicide, one bystander said that's what happened: The man shot the woman, then killed himself.

"`He walked up to her, pointed a gun at her. She tried to smack the gun [away], and he shot her in the stomach,` Scott Ritchey said. `She screamed, fell to the ground and he shot her in the head.`

"Ritchey said he and his employee, Billy Breistol, were in a delivery truck making a pick up from a warehouse in the 1600 block of Northeast 12th Terrace about 3 p.m. when they heard the gunfire about 35 feet away.

"The woman's body was found in the middle of Northeast 12th Terrace face down. Police said they believe she worked near where she was found dead.

"The man's body was lying on its left side beside a white van parked next to a business on an isolated, warehouse-lined street near Dixie Highway."
