Couple Was Last Seen Arguing
"EVANSVILLE, IN — Police believe an Evansville couple—found dead in their home this morning—had been there for nearly a day and a half before being discovered. John and Mildred Buell lived in the 500 block of Herndon Drive. Police are investigating the incident as a possible murder-suicide.
"Police say neighbors heard John and Mildred Buell arguing in their home at 507 Herndon Drive on Saturday night. That was the last time either of them were seen. Police say a concerned neighbor called police early Monday morning.
"When police entered the home they knew something was wrong. `There were some things in disarray in the house which would indicate there was probably a struggle of some kind,` says Lt. Dan DeYoung.
"They found both John and Mildred Buell dead. `It was a very bloody scene but the initial indications appear to be gunshot wounds,` says DeYoung.
"Police say the incident is likely a murder-suicide—and a gun was found near the scene."

Coroner Rules Murder/Suicide In Deaths Of Man, Niece
"EUREKA, IL — The deaths of a Eureka man and his 13-year-old niece earlier this month appear to be a murder-suicide, the Woodford County coroner said Monday.
"Troy Burwell, 39, and his niece, Cheyenne Burwell, were found dead by firefighters responding to a house fire Oct. 5 at the Lake Road home where they both resided.
"It appears Troy Burwell shot his niece before turning the gun on himself, Coroner Tim Ruestman said. The 39-year-old’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted and at point-blank range, he said, while the teen’s wound was from farther away.
"Ruestman declined to speculate on who set the fire. But he did say both Burwells were apparently alive when it started, based on new toxicology test results that show high carbon monoxide levels.
"`We don’t know who started the fire, but it was started in the basement,` he said.
"He said there was no obvious history of problems between the relatives that preceded the deaths. The two relatives are believed to be the only ones home at the time of the incident.
"`That’s really what we’re working on now, is a motive,` Ruestman said."

Two Women Dead, Alleged Killer In Critical Condition
"SMITHVILLE, TN — A woman and stepmother were found dead inside a home in DeKalb County, and their alleged killer is in critical condition after allegedly trying to kill himself.
"Heather Eley, 21, and Lori Ann Eley, 42, were found dead inside the home on Allen's Chapel Road in Smithville on Thursday afternoon. Two small children were also home at the time, but were not injured.
"The suspect, 22-year-old Brandon Gray, allegedly called 911 around 3:45 p.m. Thursday asking that police go to the home to check on his children because he thought something was wrong.
"Officers arrived and were able to enter the home through the back door. A boy and a girl, both under the age of three, were found in the home. Police said they were Gray and Heather Eley's children.
"The bodies of the two women were discovered in the living room and kitchen area. The DeKalb County Sheriff said that it appeared that the women had been shot and stabbed.
"As Heather's ex-boyfriend, Gray was identified as a person of interest, and officers began looking for him. A deputy spotted him in a car that was registered to one of the victims, and tried to stop it. The driver refused to pull over, and a pursuit ensued.
"When the car finally stopped, officers reported hearing a gunshot. Officers then found Gray inside the car suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
"Gray was taken to DeKalb Community Hospital, and then taken by ground ambulance to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
"Police have recovered the pistol Gray used to shoot himself, and kitchen knives which may have been used in the stabbing of the two women.
"A motive has not been released."

Same Gun Used In Murder, Suicide
"SENECA, SC — After a 19-year-old was shot and killed, his girlfriend’s mother killed herself, and investigators said Friday the same gun was used in both shootings.
"Coroner Karl Addis said Tylor Garren Stewart was shot with a small-caliber weapon, and the bullet penetrated his spinal cord and his heart. His body was found Sunday night in the parking lot of an Upstate boat ramp.
"Stewart was shot sometime between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday night at the Lawrence Bridge Recreation area.
"The Coroner’s Office said Stewart’s death was a homicide.
"Early Monday, investigators from Oconee County, aided by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, went to Pickens to interview Stewart’s girlfriend, Chelsea Gray.
"Oconee County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Terry Wilson said, `They were conducting an interview when a person there at the residence asked to go to the restroom. (They) heard a gunshot. That person later died at Greenville Memorial Hospital.`
"Deputies said the victim was 42-year-old Laura Gray, Chelsea Gray's mother.
"A family member, who did not want to be identified, [said] investigators had information indicating Stewart and Laura Gray were romantically involved.
"Chelsea Gray said there are still many questions surrounding the deaths of her boyfriend and mother.
"`Just a lot of questions that's never going to be answered because the only two people that can answer them is Tylor and my mom,` she said.
"Other than the weapon that connected to the two death, Chief Deputy Terry Wilson would not speculate on any relationship between Stewart and Gray."

Suspected Shoe Killer Found Dead
"CHESAPEAKE, VA — A woman who was dropped off unconscious at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and then died earlier this month was likely bashed in the head with a shoe. And the man police believe may have been responsible for her death committed suicide this week.
"On Oct. 7, Taylor Mycal Alexandria Fields, 21, was put on life support after a man dropped her off at the hospital in what was considered to be a domestic assault, according to one of three search warrants filed in the case.
"Fields died on Oct. 9, and police have not yet announced a manner of death. However, the cause of Fields' death was a subdural hematoma—bleeding in the skull—according to the medical examiner's office. A subdural hematoma usually is caused by severe head trauma.
"Police filed a search warrant to test Fields' body for a possible sexual assault, according to one of the affidavits filed in Chesapeake Circuit Court. They found evidence of foreign body fluids and hair.
"Additionally, Fields' body appeared to have pattern injuries that looked like they were caused by the sole of a shoe, according to one affidavit filed by Chesapeake police Detective Tom Downing, a homicide investigator.
"While Fields was still in the hospital, Downing interviewed Trevaun Cortez Lockett, a 28-year-old whom he believes lived with Fields in an apartment in the 700 block of Tapestry Park Loop behind the hospital, according to an affidavit.
"An iPad, purse and a cell phone bill belonging to Fields were found at the apartment they shared, according to a search warrant inventory.
"Lockett told the detective he had been playing video games before finding Fields unconscious in the bathtub, according to an affidavit. Lockett was the only one in the apartment with her, the affidavit states.
"Lockett also told police their friendship was platonic and denied having sex with her, according to the affidavit.
"Police wanted to collect evidence from Lockett to see if it matched the evidence found on her body. But on Tuesday, in the midst of the investigation, Lockett committed suicide, said police spokeswoman Kelly O'Sullivan. Police continue to investigate."

Medical Examiner: Quarry Killer Shot Himself
"CUPERTINO, CA — The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office announced Tuesday, Oct. 11, that Shareef Allman, the man responsible for the deadly shooting rampage at a Cupertino cement plant last week, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"The Santa Clara County sheriff's office initially reported that three deputies had shot and killed Allman, a 49-year-old disgruntled truck driver who shot nine people at the plant, killing three.
"Allman died in a Sunnyvale neighborhood during a confrontation with deputies during a massive, 24-hour manhunt. Mountain View school children were affected when a nearby science camp was placed on lock-down and Mountain View and Alta Vista high schools, along with a preschool, were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
"Capt. Kevin Jensen, an administrative coroner at the medical examiner's office, said Allman had other wounds but that the lethal wound was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
"At about 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, Allman opened fire on about 15 of his fellow employees at a meeting at the Lehigh Southwest Cement Plant at 24001 Stevens Creek Blvd.
"Killed were John Robert Vallejos, 51, and Mark Munoz, 59, both of San Jose, and Manuel Guadalupe Pinon, 48, of Newman.
"Allman fled the plant and carjacked a woman at gunpoint shortly before 7 a.m. in a Hewlett-Packard company parking lot. When the woman refused to turn over her car, he shot her once and fled. She suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
"A manhunt ensued, during which Allman was found the following morning crouched behind a car parked on Lorne Way in Sunnyvale.
"Three deputies approached Allman and attempted to confront him, but when they saw that he had a handgun, all three deputies fired at him, Sheriff Laurie Smith said."

Investigating Cop Shot At Before Murder/Suicide
"FAYETTEVILLE, NC — Two people were killed Thursday morning in what police say was a murder-suicide in Fayetteville.
"Police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said that investigators believe Warren Cummings III, 30, of the 400 block of Woodstream Trail, kidnapped a woman around 8:11 a.m. from an apartment where she had been staying on Icarus Circle.
"A neighbor said she heard a dog bark then saw an SUV speeding away from the apartment. Both the neighbor and the friend with whom the woman was staying called 911.
"The woman's identity or relationship to Cummings won't be released until police are able to notify her relatives, MacRoberts said.
"Investigators, however, did say the woman had a restraining order against Cummings.
"Shortly before 10 a.m., MacRoberts said, a police officer spotted the man's Chevrolet Tahoe in the Woodstream Apartment complex off Cliffdale Road.
"The man saw the officer, fired shots at him and then shot and killed the woman and then himself inside the car.
"The police officer was not injured and did not return fire."

Murder/Suicide Suspected In RV Fire
"FLAGSTAFF, AZ — The investigation into the deaths of three people whose bodies were found inside a charred motor home at the Grand Canyon points to a possible murder-suicide, National Park Service officials said Wednesday.
"Grand Canyon spokeswoman Shannan Marcak did not elaborate, other than to say the bodies appear to be those of an adult and two children and that no one else is involved. Authorities have not released the identities, but a Minnesota school district identified the three as two students and their father.
"Firefighters responded to a report Monday of smoke in the RV's cab, but it was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. Once it was extinguished, investigators were able to enter the RV and found the occupants' remains.
"One autopsy was conducted Wednesday but the results weren't released. Marcak said she didn't expect positive identification until later this week.
"The RV was in a parking area along the most-traveled road into the Grand Canyon's popular South Rim near a sign where tourists often pose for pictures. Authorities had reopened the area to the public by Wednesday afternoon after removing what was left of the RV, Marcak said."

Man Tries To Poison Two Year Old, Self
"LAWRENCE, NY — A New York man in a dispute with a woman may have tried to kill their young daughter and himself by covering them both with chemicals in a vehicle, where they were found having trouble breathing, police said.
"The 45-year-old Queens man, a mechanic with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, is in critical condition at a Long Island hospital, Nassau County Police spokesman Lt. Kevin Smith said. His 2-year-old daughter is in critical but stable condition at Cohen Children's Medical Center, said hospital spokeswoman Michelle Pinto.
"They were found in the vehicle Monday morning behind a store in suburban Lawrence, authorities said.
"Investigators found ammonium chloride, commonly found in fire extinguishers and fertilizers, in and on the child's bottle. A chemical used in household pesticides also was found on the father and child and throughout the vehicle.
"`It looks like he may have given the child this product to ingest,` Smith said. `He may have ingested the rest on his own, so we have to look at from a standpoint it may be an attempt to take his child's life and commit suicide.`"
