Police Confirm Murder/Suicide

"SPRINGFIELD, MO — Autopsies conducted on the bodies of a man and woman found dead in their Springfield home confirm both were shot to death.

"Deputy Greene County Medical Examiner Tom Van De Berg [said] Jason Nickols, 41, and his wife Doris Nickols, 51, were each shot in the head.

"Thursday afternoon, Springfield Police confirmed Doris suffered three gunshot wounds, including two fatal shots. Jason died from what appears to be a single, self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

"Police say the murder weapon was seized at the scene, and no other suspects are being sought at this time.

"The couple was found Monday morning, after police got a call to check on the well-being of the people living at 1721 S. Fremont just north of Sunshine Street.

"Officers say co-workers checked the residence and found stacked up newspapers and mail along with both cars in the driveway, then called police.

"Police say the murder-suicide was likely a result of an ongoing dispute."
