Chance Encounter Leads To Argument, Violence, And Death
"BICKNELL, IN — At approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, Indiana State Police, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Bicknell Police responded to 707 Durbin Street in Bicknell after a 33-year-old Knox County man was shot and killed during an argument with another man.
"Police said, in a release, Paul Ryan Russell, 33, Bruceville, was standing outside of Durbin and Cherry streets in Bicknell when he noticed Todd Godare, 48, Bicknell, coming toward him.
"Russell ran into a nearby residence and grabbed a baseball bat. The two argued and Godare allegedly shot and killed Russell with a .22-caliber handgun. Godare then left the scene in a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.
"At approximately 4 a.m., Vincennes City Police spotted the vehicle near McDowell and Washington Avenue. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Godare failed to stop and continued driving the speed limit on various city streets. Shortly later, Godare stopped on SR 61 near Kimmell Road and used a handgun to take his own life.
"Knox County Coroner Gordon Becher said autopsies are scheduled for Thursday morning."
