"Quiet Neighbors" Involved In Attempted Murder/Suicide

"WAIPAHU, HI — Residents of a Waipahu neighborhood say the couple involved in Sunday night's attempted murder-suicide were quiet neighbors.

"Neighbors say the couple recently got married and kept to themselves.

"`It's usually quiet here,` said Rhona Ramos, neighbor.

"`It's a dead-end street, rarely people come here and make trouble,` said Jayna Muao, neighbor.

"But the scene at Apii Place in Waipahu, was much different Sunday night. At 11:00 p.m., police were called to a domestic dispute at this house.

"`As we come outside, there were a lot of cops, we heard people cursing and stuff,` Muao said.

"Police say 40-year-old Anthony Kaai repeatedly hit his 23-year-old wife in the head with a hammer. Neighbors describe a chaotic scene.

"`An older lady running out of the door and she was hysterical and screaming. And I heard a man say 'it's a hammer,'` Ramos said.

"According to police, Kaai fled on foot to the nearby Hiapo Street Bridge. That's where police tried to negotiate with him. They say he refused to cooperate, jumped, and later died.

"Police closed nearby streets as they investigated the incident."

"Monster Mom" Kills Kid, Botches Suicide Bid

"NEW YORK, NY — A suspected hooker who appeared to dote on her 9-year-old son suddenly snapped and bashed the boy’s head with a hammer, police sources said.

"The unthinkable crime Friday night was the city’s third child murder in as many days.

"Ex-con Tenika Revell, 40, called 911 just before 11 p.m., police said. As if she had ice in her veins, she coldly told the operator that she killed her child and had taken pills to try to end her own life, police said.

"Cops rushed to her Brooklyn apartment and found the woman alive. But her son Bernard couldn’t be saved.

"Bernard was found with bruises and lacerations to his head, police said.

"The monster mom, treated at Woodhull Hospital, was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.

"Police sources said Revell had at least 33 prior arrests, including several for prostitution. Revell, who used several aliases, served two separate stints in prison after being convicted of attempted robbery and attempted burglary, records show.

"Police were still trying to figure out late Saturday why she killed the boy."

Mother Slits Throat After Beating Son To Death

"ONTARIO, CA — A mother and son in Ontario were found dead in what appeared to be a tragic murder-suicide, according to police.

"A neighbor near the 900 block of East Rosewood Court called police after looking through a window and seeing what she thought was a woman lying on the floor shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday.

"Investigators found the bodies of a 42-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son. They say evidence indicates that the woman bludgeoned her son to death using a hammer.

"The woman then killed herself by attempting to overdose on anti-depressant pills, but when that didn't work, she cut her own throat with a knife.

"Authorities also said the incident appeared to have been planned but a motive remained unclear.

"The identities of the mother and son were not immediately released pending notification of kin."

"HILLTOWN, PA — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that was discovered Wednesday night in an apartment on the 100 block of Washington Court.

"Hilltown Police said a 58-year-old female was found dead on a bed in the master bedroom and a 65-year-old male was found dead on the floor of the bathroom.

"Preliminary investigation shows that the female was killed in the bed and the male committed suicide in the bathroom, police said.

"Police responded to the home at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday to check the well-being of the unmarried couple after family members could not contact them.

"Police said both residents’ vehicles were present and recent mail, packages and newspapers were uncollected on the porch of the ground-floor apartment.

"Police forced themselves into the home and discovered both victims dead.

"Autopsies are scheduled for Friday to determine the exact cause of and times of death.

"Identifications are being withheld until next of kin are notified, police said."

"GENEVA, AL - A Geneva Couple died early Friday during a domestic dispute that involved a claw hammer and later a handgun.

"Geneva Police Lt. Ricky Morgan said police officers found the couple, Grover Smith and Margaret Critzer, both dead in the front yard of a neighbor’s home on PC Black Road. He said police discovered the couple after responding to domestic 911 call made by a neighbor around 1:45 a.m.

"`It appears they had a physical altercation, which resulted in Mr. Smith beating and shooting Ms. Critzer,` Morgan said.

"Morgan said after Smith, 65, apparently shot Critzer, 52, he turned the gun on himself. He said there was also a hammer used in the assault and murder. Morgan said Critzer was assaulted with the hammer before she was shot.

"`It appears that the claw hammer was used in the initial argument,` Morgan said. `It appears she may have just collapsed in the yard, and at that time Mr. Smith shot her.`

"Morgan said police found the hammer and the .40-caliber handgun believed to have been used in the murder in yard. He said Critzer suffered five to six gunshot wounds, and Smith suffered a single gunshot wound to his head.

"Morgan also said alcohol usage was also a factor in the assault and murder."

Man Jumps To Death After Beating Wife With Hammer

"SEATTLE, WA - A 74-year-old man brutally beat his 75-year-old wife with a hammer late Thursday night, leaving her with deadly injuries before jumping to his own death, Seattle police report.

"`No! No! No!` a caller to 911 reported hearing a woman scream. The caller heard a thumping sound, no more from the woman and more thumping, according to police.

"Officers responded at 10:15 p.m to the high-rise apartment building in the 2400 block of Northwest 57th Street.

"Officers who arrived were told about a body outside the complex. The 74-year-old man was found on concrete. He was holding a hammer, police said.

"Officers kicked in the door to find the woman on the bloody floor near a window.

"The screen had been pushed out of the sixth-floor apartment. The Seattle Housing Authority runs the complex, which is called Ballard House.

"Firefighters treated the woman, then rushed her to Harborview Medical Center, where she died.

"Investigators believe the two were in an argument when the man began to beat her with the hammer, according to initial reports. Police say he used the hammer and possibly other items, leaving her mortally wounded.

"Police say the man committed suicide by jumping from the south windows of their apartment, which face 25th Avenue Northwest."
