Gunman Fires As Police Approach Vehicle
"KEITHVILLE, LA — The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office confirms 2 are dead in an apparent murder/suicide Friday afternoon.
"CPSO spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says 39-year-old Gwennette Lynne Salley was abducted around 4:30 p.m. at gunpoint from her daughter's daycare in Stonewall by her husband, 43-year-old Michael Scott Salley, who reportedly jumped into the passenger side of the vehicle and forced her to drive.
"The DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office was notified of the abduction by a passerby who saw Mr. Salley with a shotgun getting into her 2013 Chevy Equinox. That motorist followed the vehicle into Caddo Parish, and more area law enforcement was notified.
"The search went on for about 2 hours before the SUV was found on Johns Gin Road off of Keatchie Marshall Road in Keithville. Officers followed the vehicle into a clearing, where the vehicle stopped.
"When officers got out and announced themselves, they say they immediately heard 3 shots.
"Both were found dead in the vehicle. Chadwick says the couple's child did not witness the abduction and was not in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
"Earlier in the afternoon, the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed to [reporters] that Gwenette Salley had a protective order against her husband when she was taken. While Chadwick wasn't able to confirm whether the couple was still married, separated or divorced, she said they were known to have a history, and that this tragic incident is believed to have been the result of domestic violence."
