Couple Found Shot During Police Welfare Check

"HOUSTON, TX — Officers found the bodies of two young people in a west Houston apartment on Sunday evening after a friend asked police to do a welfare check.

"According to the Houston Police Department, the discovery was made around 6 p.m. in the 7600 block of Highmeadow Drive.

"Police said a female victim, 24, and a male suspect, 31, were both found fatally shot in the apartment. The shootings appeared to be a case of murder/suicide.

"Sergeants with HPD Homicide said the young woman had not been seen for several days, so her close friend called police to check the residence. The friend told police the couple had been in a relationship for several years but were having recent problems.

"HPD said the investigation is continuing as investigators await autopsy results."
