Post-Mortem Exam Indicates Murder/Suicide

"KINNELON, NJ — A Kinnelon husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself last Thursday, according to Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp.

"In a press release Friday afternoon, Knapp said John P. Jones, 74, murdered his wife Joey Jones, 63, in their Long Meadow Road home in the gated Smoke Rise section of the borough.

"On May 23, Kinnelon police responded to the residence at approximately 8:01 a.m. At that time, the Joneses' bodies were found inside the house. The investigation did not reveal any signs of forcible entry into the home, the prosecutor said.

"A post-mortem examination was conducted Friday by Deputy Morris County Medical Examiner Carlos Fonseca. Pursuant to the results of the examination, Knapp said John Jones shot his wife, killing her, and then turned the gun on himself."
