Argument Over Concert Tickets Leaves Two Dead

"WASHINGTON, PA — A tragic case of murder/suicide involving two old friends has taken a strange twist that relates to their favorite band. Friends and family are speculating that their deaths may have stemmed from an argument that erupted over concert tickets for Phish.

"CBS reports that Nate Roman and Michael Marchines began arguing at a local restaurant around 2:30 in the morning on April 25. The fight quickly escalated, and a short time after they left the restaurant, Roman was shot multiple times and killed.

"Family members believe that the fight may have been over $3,000 Roman recently dropped on Phish tickets. According to Roman’s stepfather Harry Damerow, `Nathan was a coal miner and liked to travel and see the Phish. He worked hard. He enjoyed traveling all over the world to watch these guys.`

"Roman was found by a third party who called police. Authorities immediately started looking for Marchines through cellphone tracking and found him down the street with a gunshot wound to the head, allegedly self-inflicted. Police believe there was at least a 20-minute break between the two shootings, since it appears that Marchines was on the run.

"Although police are not commenting on the specifics of the case, Roman’s sister said she wouldn’t be surprised to hear that they were arguing over Phish tickets. `They lived for that all the way,` Casey Roman told a local reporter. `I totally believe it. My brother just purchased $3,000 worth of Phish tickets and planned to have a really good time with them.`

"Police have recovered local surveillance video and will continue their investigation. No official motive has been confirmed by authorities at this time."

Deaths May Be Result Of Neurological Disorder

"BAGLEY, MN — Jack Gerbracht shot and killed his mother, Darlene Gerbracht, on Monday before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide, Gerbracht’s stepson, Ben Vorderbruggen, said Wednesday.

"Police have not yet released the names of the two people found dead at 406 Getchell Ave., but Vorderbruggen said it was his stepfather, Jack Gerbracht, and Gerbracht’s mother, Darlene Gerbracht, who were found dead there.

"Vorderbruggen said Jack Gerbracht, 41, suffered from Pick’s Disease, a neurological disorder, and that the disease caused his personality to `take a 180-degree turn.`

"`We’re just floored by this,` he said. `I understand that he did do this, but that wasn't the man I know.`

"Vorderbruggen learned of the tragic circumstances as he was driving to Bagley from his home in North Dakota.

"`She was really caring,` he said of Darlene Gerbracht, who lived less than two blocks from the home Jack Gerbracht shared with his wife, Sara, and their two daughters.

"Vorderbruggen regrets that Darlene Gerbracht did not have the chance to meet his newborn child.

"He said little is known about Pick’s Disease. Jack Gerbracht’s brother and father both died from it.

"`It’s a very progressive disease that affects impulse control,` Vorderbruggen said. `I don’t want people to remember Jack as a murder/suicide. He was a very caring and gentle person. Violence was one one-millionth of his personality.`"

Two Dead After Confrontation On Roadway

"ESPAÑOLA, NM — An Española man and woman died Monday morning in what law enforcement officials say was a roadside murder-suicide.

"Española Public Safety Director Eric Garcia said 36-year-old Sergio Gandara shot and killed his ex-girlfriend Janeth Bojorquez, 33, mother of a 7-year-old child, off North Coronado Road just after 8 a.m. Monday before turning his handgun on himself.

"Garcia said witnesses to the shooting told Española police that Gandara was driving north on North Coronado Road when he crossed the double-yellow line in the middle of the road to approach a car driven by Bojorquez heading in the opposite direction. They stopped just a quarter-mile from the Presbyterian Medical Center.

"Witnesses told police that Gandara stopped his car directly in front of Bojorquez’s so that they were nose-to-nose, then got out of his car, approached her driver-side window and removed her from her car, Garcia said.

"Witnesses then began calling 911, Garcia said, reporting that Gandara had pulled a gun on the woman.

"`Within seconds of those calls, there were subsequent calls reporting that the woman had been shot and that the man was turning the gun on himself,` Garcia said.

"Bojorquez was shot in the upper torso, as was Gandara. Garcia said Monday he would not release the make and caliber of Gandara’s gun and officers were still investigating where he had obtained the firearm.

"Because the shooting happened so close to the hospital, emergency medical responders arrived on scene in less than one minute, Garcia said. Bojorquez and Gandara were still alive when ambulances arrived but were later pronounced dead at the hospital.

"`Unfortunately, the injuries proved fatal,` Garcia said."

Lady Cop Kills Boyfriend, Baby, Self

"BROOKLYN, NY — A New York City police officer shot her 1-year-old son, the baby's father and then herself in an apparent double murder-suicide at her home Monday morning, police said.

"The bodies were discovered after her 19-year-old son, who was sleeping in his bedroom, awoke to the sound of an argument and saw his mother with a gun, said chief police spokesman Paul Browne. The young man went back into his bedroom where he escaped through a window and called 911, but by the time police arrived moments later, the three others were dead, Browne said.

"The body of the 33-year-old father, Dason Peters, was found in the entry of the first-floor apartment on a quiet, tree-lined street in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn, authorities said. The bodies of Rosette Samuel, 43, and her baby boy, Dylan, were found face up on the bed in her bedroom. The gun was by her side.

"The officer used her service weapon, a semiautomatic Glock handgun. She and baby were apparently struck in the chest. Peters was shot in the torso. Police say possibly four rounds were fired but it's not clear how many times Dylan and Peters were hit.

"The two were a couple but were not married, police said.

The teenager, Dondre Samuel, who is the officer's son from a previous relationship, was uninjured.

"It was unclear what prompted the dispute. Police have not discovered a note, and there was nothing in Rosette Samuel's police records to indicate she had been troubled, authorities said. There were no reports of domestic violence."

"The body of Charles Mark Hoover, 59, was found Wednesday night inside the family’s home in Lilley Township, about 55 miles north of Grand Rapids, the Newaygo County sheriff’s department. Investigators said they believe he shot to death his wife Marcia and their son, who also was named Charles.

"Authorities are trying to determine what led to the shootings, and the deaths are being investigated as a double murder/suicide.

"`The whole situation is very unfortunate,` said Undersheriff Brian Boyd. `It’s very tragic that it ended this way, but we’re just glad that nobody else got hurt.`

"Law enforcement had responded about 2 p.m. to the home following a report of a shooting and found the bodies of the 62-year-old wife and 37-year-old son outside. No vehicles were missing, and Charles Mark Hoover was believed to be on the property, which has several other buildings.

"Officials set up a perimeter and used a loudspeaker to order anyone inside the home to come out.

"A police robot used to clear the buildings on the property found his body. He had a single self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff’s department said, and his body was found at the top of a stairway of the home.

"`It was very tense,` Boyd said. `We weren’t even sure he was in the residence.`"

Shooter Had Extensive Criminal Record

"PAOLI, OK — Garvin County Sheriff Larry Rhodes says investigators are trying to determine why a 58-year-old man shot and killed his girlfriend's son before barricading himself inside a home and killing himself.

"Just after 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, the Garvin County 911 Center received a call from a home at 101 West Street in Paoli. The caller said someone had been shot.

"When Paoli police officers arrived, they found shooting victim Noel Sanchez, 22. They say Sanchez's brother was the one who called 911. Sanchez was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Police officers say Antonio Elias Reynoso barricaded himself inside a bedroom and refused to come out. Believing the suspect was still armed with the handgun used in the shooting, the Paoli Police Department called in help from the Garvin County Sheriff's Office and surrounding police departments, and a standoff began.

"At approximately 4 p.m., the Oklahoma Highway Patrol tactical team entered the house and found Reynoso dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies later discovered Reynoso had an extensive criminal record in California and went by several aliases.

"Deputies say they aren't sure why Reynoso shot Sanchez, but they believe there may have been a history of unreported domestic violence between Reynoso and Sanchez's mother that may have led to a deadly confrontation."

Bodies Found In Burned Out Medical Center

"DETROIT, MI — Authorities determined Wednesday that a fired maintenance worker fatally shot his ex-girlfriend before turning the gun on himself inside a Detroit medical center as it burned to the ground in a blaze police suspect he set.

"The medical examiner's office confirmed the fears of family members that Sharita Williams, a 35-year-old medical assistant in one of the offices, was killed by 55-year-old Myron Williams, who was fired from his job as the building's maintenance worker last week.

"Both bodies were badly burned when crews digging through the gutted Park Medical Centers building on Detroit's west side recovered their remains late Tuesday, hours after the fire.

"Sarah Bazzi, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County medical examiner's office, said autopsies showed Sharita Williams suffered multiple gunshot wounds and Myron Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Myron Williams was married, but not to Sharita Williams, who wasn't related to him.

"Antha Williams-Hill, Sharita Williams' mother, told The Associated Press the couple had been dating for more than a year before the relationship soured. She moved out of the city and changed her telephone number, but eventually her ex-boyfriend caught up with her, Williams-Hill said."

Killer Found In Burning Pickup Truck

"INKSTER, MI — Inkster Police Detective Anthony Delgreco said today that officers found the body of Cindy Bailey on the floor of a bedroom in the couple’s home in the 400 block of Helen, south of Cherry Hill Road and west of Inkster Road, at 11:30 p.m.

"The body of Antonio Bailey was found inside his burning pick-up truck after neighbors called 911 to report the garage of the brick ranch was on fire.

"`About 20 minutes earlier, they got sent here on an alarm run and the house was secure—all locked up good and tight,` Delgreco said this morning from the scene.

"They noticed trouble when they returned. `When they looked in the window, they saw blood on the wall, so they decided to kick in the door. And they went in to find a woman deceased from multiple, multiple, multiple stab wounds and there was a gun and a knife next to her.`

"Investigators did not find any spent shell casings, leading police to believe no shots were fired, he added.

"Inkster Police have not been called to the home during the past six years other than for routine security alarm false alarms, according to Delgreco and the department's automated call registry.

"`We didn’t have anything here but alarm runs, so we had nothing documented that I saw,` Delgreco said today. `But according to family, they had a rough relationship.`"

Argument Escalates To Deadly Shooting

"WHITE LAKE, MI — The names of the victims killed in an apparent murder-suicide in White Lake Township last night have been released.

"37-year-old Jason Handy is accused of gunning down his wife, 33-year-old Lorian Handy, and then taking his own life at their residence on 21 Danforth Street at about 9pm Monday.

"Harris said his department had no prior incidents or criminal history on record with the couple. They reportedly moved into the home on Oxbow Lake two years ago.
