Wife Calls 911 Before Dying
"PULASKI COUNTY, KY — Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood says a woman, shot in the chest, managed to call 911 Tuesday afternoon before she collapsed and died. The sheriff says the woman and a neighbor reported the shooting, at a rural home on Hunters Camp Road in the Mt. Victory area of Pulaski County, just before 2:00pm.
"Sheriff Wood says deputies found 33-year-old Paula Barnes and her husband, 34-year-old Vernon Barnes, dead when they entered the home. Paula Barnes had been shot in the chest. Deputies say the couple was having marital problems and Paula Barnes was making plans to separate from her husband. Investigators say it appears those plans lead to an apparent argument at the home.
"A news release from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office says it appears Vernon Barnes shot his wife once with a .22 rifle before turning the weapon on himself. Both bodies will be sent to the medical examiner's office in Frankfort for autopsy."
