Police: Deaths Consistent With Murder/Suicide

"MOUNDS VIEW, MN — Police tentatively identified the man and woman found dead in a Mounds View home Wednesday as Mark Schnor, 47, and his wife, Christine Schnor, 39.

"Each of them suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, according to Mounds View Police Chief Thomas Kinney. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

"Authorities did not officially identify the deaths as a murder-suicide because a final medical examiner's report won't be completed for several weeks due to pending toxicology tests. However, Kinney said, `It is consistent with that scenario.`

"Evidence suggests that Mark Schnor was the shooter, Kinney said. No note was found at the scene, so it's unclear if Christine Schnor was a willing participant, the chief said.

"`We are unable to determine that at this stage, and maybe we'll never know for sure,` he said.

"Police are investigating whether any electronic notes or messages may have been left behind.

"The couple were found lying in their bed, which was located in the living room. Shades were drawn, so when relatives went to check on the couple's welfare Wednesday they had to call police about 2:30 p.m. to gain entry into the home in the 2900 block of County Road 10.

"Relatives had not heard from the couple in about a week. It's unclear how long they may have been dead."

Woman Survives Being Shot Three Times

"AUBURNDALE, FL — An early-morning shooting in an Auburndale motel left one man dead and a woman critically injured following a domestic fight between a young couple, authorities said.

"Officers with the Auburndale Police Department drove to the Lake Forest Motel at 1702 U.S. 92 W. about 2:20 a.m. today, finding the aftermath of the chaotic scene outside room 25.

"Officers said Eviana Inez Rosa, 23, of Lakeland, sat outside the room, suffering from three gunshot wounds. The woman—who celebrated her birthday about two weeks before—was conscious and able to talk to police.

"Around the corner and inside the room, police said they found the body of Edward O. Pecci, a 22-year-old man with a Tampa address. Pecci had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

"Rosa explained to officers that she and her boyfriend had been living at the motel for about two weeks. They were arguing until about 2 a.m., when Pecci grabbed a gun.

"Lt. Thrasey Tucker said Rosa’s survival was nothing short of miraculous. One of the bullets hit one of her biceps, the other two were head shots, Tucker said.

"Neither of the bullets that penetrated her head went through her skull, he said.

"As she fled the room and into the parking lot to find help, authorities said she heard the sound of a single gunshot behind her.

"Authorities said they found a gun with Pecci’s body on the floor of the motel room.

"Tucker said the pair—both employees of Buckhead Beef in Auburndale—had been together for about four months."

Mother Beaten, Daughter Stabbed, Man Shoots Himself

"MUNDELEIN, IL — Two people are dead and one is injured after an apparent murder-suicide early Wednesday in north suburban Mundelein.

"Alina S. Rybinkova, 22, was found dead about 1:30 a.m. in a garage at 1397 Newport Street, and 44-year-old Gennadiy Plaksa of Palatine was found dead in his car about 300 feet away. Plaksa died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

"Rybinkova was found in her garage after a woman called 911 at 1:37 a.m., police said.

"`It’s still an ongoing investigation,` Mundelein Deputy Police Chief John Monahan said. `By no means is the investigation complete. There are still some other facts we need to follow up on.`

"Monahan said Plaksa apparently had a previous relationship with Rybinkova’s mother, which the mother had ended. He said the mother had been staying with her daughter.

"Police believe that sometime after 9 p.m. Tuesday Plaksa broke into the home. Rybnikova arrived home a short time later and was confronted by Plaksa, who beat her—apparently with a baseball bat found in the home—and stabbed her repeatedly in the abdomen, Monahan said.

"Later that evening, the victim’s 45-year-old mother arrived home from dinner and was badly beaten by Plaska, who knocked her to the ground, put duct tape on her mouth and placed her hands behind her back and handcuffed her, Monahan said.

"After talking with Plaksa, the woman was able to persuade him to release her from her restraints, he said. The woman then called her daughter’s roommate and asked her to come home.

"When the roommate arrived about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Plaksa and the woman’s mother were standing near the front door, and as she started to pull into the driveway Plaksa began walking down the street away from the home. The roommate and mother then opened the garage and discovered the body of Rybinkova inside and called 911.

"Until then, the mother did not know her daughter was lying dead in the garage, Monahan said."

Four Dead In "Tony Island Enclave"

"CORONADO, CA — Four people were found shot dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a home near San Diego after shooting broke out in the early hours of New Year's Day, police said.

"Authorities in Coronado, a tony island enclave off the coast of San Diego, were called to a condo shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday to investigate a report of shots fired at the residence, sheriff's Lieutenant Larry Nesbit said.

"Officers arrived to find the body of an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound lying in the doorway of the building, he said. Further details of the other reported victims were not immediately available.

"San Diego sheriff's homicide detectives said no one was being sought in connection with the deaths.

"`Although we are early into the investigation, we do not believe we have any outstanding suspects,` Nesbit said.

"Navy police from the nearby base at North Island were brought in to determine if any of the victims were in the military, Nesbit said."

Couple Found Dead In Condo

"ANAHEIM HILLS, CA — An autopsy is planned this week for the bodies of two people found shot to death inside an Anaheim Hills condominium in what was likely a murder-suicide, police said Sunday.

"Anaheim police responded to reports of shots fired about 7:40 p.m. Friday at a residence in the 1000 block of South Sundance Drive, just steps from Weir Canyon Wilderness Park in Anaheim Hills, said Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn. Two adults were found dead inside the condo.

"Their identities have not been released because their next-of-kin have not yet been notified, Dunn said Sunday.

"`I presume the family members will be back tomorrow,` said Dunn, explaining their next-of-kin likely were away for the holiday weekend.

"Coroner's officials have removed the bodies, but an autopsy has been delayed by the long holiday weekend, Dunn said. It could be performed as early as Tuesday, he added.
Homicide detectives believe the incident was likely a murder-suicide; the coroner's report is expected to confirm that theory, Dunn said.

"Authorities have not released any information on the victims, including whether they were related and if they lived together in the condo. But police said investigators are not searching for any suspects."
