"HUNTSVILLE, AL — The two people found dead in their Huntsville home on Monday have been identified.
"A maintenance worker discovered the bodies of Janet and Edward Sulcer inside their home on 3115 Hale Drive around noon.
"Authorities believe Edward Sulcer shot his wife and then himself. They said there was not sign of a struggle at the couple's home.
"Police said the wife recently had shoulder surgery, but they don't believe she had any other health problems. They also said officers were never called to the house in the past and the couple didn't have a history of domestic violence.
"Neighbors said on Monday that Janet Sulcer had a series of health problems recently and that Edward Sulcer was friendly and outgoing.
"Police did not discover a suicide note at the scene."
"DOVER, NH — A New Hampshire man wrote an upbeat post about his plan to kill his ailing wife in a `double suicide`—and then carried out the deed inside her hospital room.
"`Love you all, peace out!` concluded the message, which was posted on Facebook just minutes before Mark Lavoie carried out the murder/suicide inside of Dover’s Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Tuesday morning.
"Authorities did not identify the shooter or the victim, but Lavoie’s sister confirmed her brother was the gunman.
"Dorcas Lavoie said her brother had acted `out of love` for his wife Katherine, 49.
"`They both loved each other very much,` she told The Associated Press.
"In his posting, Lavoie said he wanted to put his wife out of her misery.
"Police went to the hospital just after 6 a.m. after a 911 call reported gunshots in a private room in the critical care unit.
"`While the investigation is still in the early stages and ongoing, the two deaths appear to be the result of a murder/suicide,` the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office said in a statement."

"YORKTOWN, VA — Officials believe a man shot his wife and then died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday night inside a York County home, a sheriff's office spokesman said.
"`He called 911 and said he had shot his wife,` York-Poquoson Sheriff's Lt. Dennis Ivey said Monday.
"Emergency crews found the couple dead just after 6:45p.m. inside the home on 308 Monument Court. It has been determined that this was a `planned murder,` officials said.
"The 68-year-old husband, Kurt Kurosawa, and the 40-year-old wife, Merriam Kurosawa, were legally married but separated, officials said. The wife was living in the 300 block of Monument Court, where the incident occurred, and the husband was living in the 100 block of Chadwick Court in York County.

"HAZLET, NJ — The residential neighborhood on Peter Place, where two bodies were found Saturday, seemed quiet and peaceful Monday morning—almost a world away from the crime scene that drew police.
"Thomas C. Huth, director of the major crimes bureau at the Monmouth Prosecutors Office, confirmed the deceased as Christine Dzienisiewski and her husband Richard Dzienisiewski.
"Two days ago police found a man and woman, both 37, in what authorities say may be a murder/suicide. There was still some police tape sectioning off a small part of the house Monday morning, but almost nothing else seemed out of the ordinary.
"The crime scene blended in with other houses on Peter Place with Christmas decorations and manicured front lawns. Snowflake decorations adorned the walkway of the house, leading up to the front porch.
"Christine Dzienisiewski died as a result of a homicide, Huth said. He confirmed that Richard died as a result of self-inflicted wounds, but he could not offer more details as the investigation is pending.
"Webster said authorities are not searching for any suspects, and that the community is not in danger."
"CROWLEY, TX — Crowley police say a woman and her two teenage daughters who were found dead in their home Sunday were victims of a murder/suicide.
"Samuel Morales, 36, was also found dead at the home the family shared on Kennedy Drive. Police suspect he killed the three others, but spared a 9-year-old boy, before turning the gun on himself, Crowley police Chief Luis Soler said Tuesday at a press conference.
"`The brave 9-year-old boy is doing the best as he can under these circumstances,` Soler said. `He’ll be all right. We’ll take care of him.`
"The victims, Xiomara Leon, 34, Linda Gonzalez, 18, and Yasmine Zavala, 13, were identified early Tuesday by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. The youngest victim was strangled, and Leon and Gonzalez were both shot repeatedly, the ME says.
"A 9-year-old boy found unharmed at the home called a relative who then called 911 to report that a man had committed suicide at the family’s home.
"Leon and Morales were in a romantic relationship for four years, but police did not know whether they were married. The 9-year-old boy, Gonzalez and Zavala were Leon’s children. Leon and Morales did not have any children together. They all lived in the home together.
"Soler said investigators are still trying to establish a timeline in the case. They have not said who Morales killed first or what led to the slayings. He also said it’s unclear why the 13-year-old girl was strangled and the others were shot.
"`At this point, I don’t know if we’ll ever know why it took place,` Soler said."

"CASTAIC, CA — The theory that a Lancaster man deliberately killed himself and his two children by slamming his car into a parked truck on Interstate 5 was bolstered by the discovery of airbag sensors apparently removed from the vehicle, a homicide detective said Wednesday.
"Alan Dean Edwards, 46, and his two children—Erick Dean Edwards, 8, and Alona Marie Edwards, 5—were killed instantly early Monday when the car driven by Edwards rammed into a semi-truck and trailer parked legally off the I-5 north of Castaic, according to the county coroner.
"When asked Wednesday if the crash was a murder/suicide, sheriff’s homicide Lt. Eddie Hernandez replied, `It’s starting to look that way.`
"Detectives searched the Edwards home Tuesday and found two airbag sensors left in `a conspicuous place,` suggesting the devices that trigger the release of life-saving airbags had been deliberately removed from the 1997 Honda Accord Alan Edwards was driving.
"`It was kind of like a statement,` Hernandez said of the placement of the relay sensors.
"The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Monday on the southbound side of the I-5 at the Whittaker Brake Check, an area where truckers can pull out of lanes to check their brakes before a five-mile downgrade.
"The Yuba City driver of a 2006 Freightliner and utility semi-trailer was parked legally in the brake check area and taking a nap when Edwards’ white Honda slammed into the back of his trailer, shearing off the top of the car. The truck driver was not injured.
"Investigators with both the CHP and the coroner’s department concluded the crash was deliberate and that Edwards purposely drove around obstacles in his path before the collision, Hernandez said Tuesday."
"ARLINGTON, VA — To his girlfriend’s family, Ray Savoy seemed an attentive, loving boyfriend. The 29-year-old carried Kristy Flowers, an aspiring lawyer, up and down the stairs after she had surgery on her foot and often made sure that her baths were accompanied by candles and chocolates. About a month ago, Savoy broached the subject of marrying Flowers with her mother, father and other relatives.
"But there were signs of trouble, mostly in hindsight. On a trip to visit Flowers’s family in Ohio, Savoy drank a lot and talked about a gun he kept in his car, Flowers’s brother said. The young man seemed unusually interested in his girlfriend’s hugging a male friend, her mother and father said. And his talk of marriage came after only months of dating, a little premature for some in Flowers’s family.
"On Tuesday, police officials in Arlington County said they believe that Savoy fatally shot Flowers, 31, inside the apartment they shared on North Kensington Street in the Westover neighborhood, then shot and killed himself. Their bodies were discovered late Monday afternoon, after Flowers’s mother, concerned that she hadn’t been able to reach her daughter all weekend, got in touch with an apartment maintenance man, who contacted police. Lt. Kip Malcolm, a police department spokesman, said detectives found a handgun in the home. Arlington police had never been called to the apartment for domestic violence.
"`To me, they were like the perfect couple,` said Patricia Flowers, Kristy Flowers’s mother. `There was nothing to indicate that he was a violent person.`"

"ROSEVILLE, MI — Announcing it was `time to die,` a 55-year-old Roseville man shot his live-in girlfriend in the chest and then turned the gun on himself, police said.
"The woman, 55, who survived the Saturday night attack, was in extremely critical condition at a local hospital, Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said today. The boyfriend was dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head when police arrived in the 26000 block of Ridgemont, Berlin said.
"Police were sent to the area about 11:15 p.m. Saturday on a report of gunshots being fired and a woman screaming for help. They found the woman, who Berlin did not name, lying in the driveway of the home, wounded. A short distance away was her boyfriend's body, police said.
"The pair shared the home on 26378 Ridgemont, apparently for at least a few years. The man, who Berlin identified as Michael Joseph Powell, had been suffering long-term health issues.

"During the argument, the girlfriend told police, Powell pulled out a .380-caliber, semiautomatic handgun and pointed it at her and said it was `time to die,` Berlin said. He said Powell fired a shot at her inside the home and missed, hitting a bedroom wall.
"She fled the house, screaming for help, alerting neighbors who immediately called police. She took cover behind a car, but the man found her and shot at her, hitting her once in the chest, police said.
"He then walked a short distance and turned the gun on himself, taking his own life, police said.

"When the Diboll Police Department arrived at the scene, they tried to call into the house, but they got no response, Baker said. As a result, the officers made a forced entry into the home, and found William and Velma Treadway's bodies inside. Both people had apparent gunshot wounds, Baker said.
"Investigators quickly secured the scene, and autopsies have been ordered, Baker said.
"Baker said even though the case is still under investigation at this time, it could be a double suicide or a murder/suicide.
"`This isn't the kind of thing you think of on a morning like this,` Baker said. `It's tragic and the family members were actually on their way to visit and it's very tragic for them and we are very sorry for their loss. We know it's going to be tough for them now that it is the holidays.`"
"OAKLAND, CA — An 86-year-old man fatally shot his 72-year-old wife and then himself in an apparent murder/suicide sometime on Monday in the couple's Broadway Terrace home, police said.
"The couple, identified as Mike and Jackie Fitzgerald, were found about 8 p.m. Monday after a relative asked police to do a well-being check.
"Police forced their way into the residence on 6210 Broadway Terrace, near Highway 13, and found the couple both dead from gunshot wounds in the living room, Oakland police Sgt. Michael Cardoza said Tuesday.
"Cardoza said no notes were found and police are trying to establish a motive for the shootings. He said Mike Fitzgerald may have had some health issues.
"Police have classified the deaths as a murder and suicide, Cardoza said.
"Police said the couple had been married 25 years and had lived in the house for many years.
"They were last seen alive Sunday and seemed in good spirits police were told.
"Police said a relative tried to call them numerous times on Monday and when that was unsuccessful went to the home. Police were called when the relative could not get in."
"XENIA, OH — A Xenia man killed himself before police could apprehend him after a high-speed pursuit as part of an apparent murder/suicide.
"Earnest R. Starling Jr., 35, of Springfield, was shot and killed outside a home on East Church Street in Xenia about 1 a.m. Tuesday. The shooter, Chris Fonzi Jr., 31, reportedly came to that address, where his estranged wife lived, and displayed a handgun before forcing his way inside.
"Witnesses told Xenia police Starling and Fonzi argued in the home for several minutes. Fonzi fired several shots inside the home, then chased Starling outside, where he fired two more times. One of those bullets hit Starling in the torso, killing him, said Xenia Detective Scott Anger.
"Police released a description of the white truck Fonzi was seen fleeing in, and Greene County sheriff’s deputies located it on U.S. 35. A high-speed chase ensued, with speeds reaching up to 85 mph. The pursuit ended in Dayton after officers there used stop sticks on Terry Street to deflate the tires on Fonzi’s truck.
"After hitting the stop sticks, Anger said, Fonzi apparently shot himself in his truck. The vehicle hit an RTA pole near Fifth and Terry streets. Fonzi was taken to a hospital but died of the self-inflicted gunshot wound, Anger said. Officers recovered the weapon used in the shooting.
"Starling was visiting Fonzi’s estranged wife and her niece on Church Street when the shooting occurred, said police, who noted Fonzi used to live at that same address."

"SISSETON, SD — Around 3:30 a.m. this morning, Sisseton residents heard sirens blare and, later, a helicopter, likely an air ambulance.
"Within hours, the small Roberts County town would be rocked by the news of a shooting that left four people dead and one critically injured.
"The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation said preliminary investigation results identify Colter Richard Arbach, 22, of Sisseton, as the shooter in the morning incident, according to a release from the state Attorney General's office.
"Officials believe Arbach shot the four other people before killing himself. The bodies were found at a home in Sisseton.
"One of the victims, a female, was in stable condition today at a Fargo hospital, according to earlier Associated Press reports.
"By mid-morning, many from Sisseton's Native American community had gathered at the east end of the blocked-off portion of the street, where a green house sits at the corner of Cherry Street and Fourth Avenue East.
"Some residents had been there since the sirens rang, waiting for news and supporting each other.
"Sisseton Police and Roberts County Sheriff's Office vehicles were guarding the two-block section, keeping bystanders back from the scene.
"Nearly half of Sisseton's 2,470 residents in 2010 were American Indian, according to the U.S. Census. Sisseton is on the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation, which is in the northeast corner of the state near the borders with North Dakota and Minnesota.
"All of the victims and Arbach are believed to be at least part Native American."
