Bodies Found In Separate Counties


"WILLARD, MO — Investigators with the Greene County Sheriff's Department have identified two people shot to death Monday night. They now consider the shootings to be a murder/suicide.

"Sandra Pendergrass, 48, of Bois D'Arc, was found shot to death in the road in the 600 block of Pershing in Willard, Missouri about 7:30pm.

"Witnesses called deputies after seeing a man point a gun at Pendergrass on Farm Road 124, then drive off with her in a pickup truck.

"Investigators then went to Dade County, where they found Pendergrass' estranged husband, Todd Pendergrass, 48, dead of apparent suicide.

"Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott released a statement Tuesday, saying; `Investigators learned that Todd Pendergrass had confessed to killing Sandra to his daughter and brother before taking his own life. Our condolences are with the Pendergrass family as they cope with this double tragedy.`

"Autopsies on the couple are scheduled later this week. Arnott says the investigation is still on-going."

Sheriff Identifies Couple Found Dead In Home


"SOUTHPORT, FL — SOUTHPORT — John Steve Bowen shot Donna Maria Merendino twice before turning the gun on himself at their home on 1327 10th St, according to preliminary findings released by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.

"Autopsies were completed on Monday and a forensic analysis by the BCSO Crime Scene Unit corroborated the preliminary findings.

"Bowen, 46, killed Merendino, 44, with two shots from a short-barrel shotgun on Friday before killing himself, the BCSO reported. Toxicology reports are still pending."

"LOS ANGELES, CA — Two men died in the Willowbrook neighborhood of Los Angeles early Sunday after one of the men was shot trying to wrest control of a handgun from the other, who then appeared to turn the weapon on himself, authorities said.

"The shootings occurred about 1 a.m. in the 400 block of East 138th Street, a few miles east of Compton, authorities said.

"The victims were hanging out with a group of people in front of a residential building when one man pulled out a handgun, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Another man who tried to grab the gun was shot.

"The gunman then appeared to turn the handgun on himself, according to the sheriff's statement.

"The first gunshot victim died at the scene, authorities said. The gunman was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries. No other injuries were reported

"Los Angeles County Coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz identified Dominique Barnett, 24, of Los Angeles, as the man who died at the scene and Jerrod Taylor, 23, also of Los Angeles, as the man who died at the hospital.

"Authorities said they don't know whether the shootings were accidental or if the gunman was attempting to commit murder or suicide. It's unclear what relationship the men had.

"`This one's kind of sticky,` said Sgt. Edmundo Hummel of the Sheriff's Department Headquarters Bureau. `They're trying to figure out what happened and we won't know for a while.`

"Sheriff's deputies found a handgun at the site of the shooting."

Wife Dead In Street, Husband Dead At Front Door


"CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Nueces County Medical Examiner identified Friday the two victims in what police believe may have been a murder/suicide that took place in this city's southside Thursday evening.

"It was around 3:40 p.m. Thursday when police were called out 7913 Etienne Drive in the Kings Crossing area after receiving reports of shots fired in the area. Once there, officers discovered the body of 42-year old Patricia Askew laying in the street and 51-year old David Askew near the front door of a house. Both had apparent gunshot wounds.

"Police called for EMS crews from the Corpus Christi Fire Department to treat the man and woman, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.

"Investigators say they have no information to support the possibility of a third person involved in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing."

"PRENTISS, MS — According to Jefferson Davis County Sheriff Ron Strickland, and man and a woman are dead in a murder/suicide on Friday.

"The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. at 6 Baggett Road.

"According to Strickland the man and woman were separated but still married.

"Authorities identified the male who allegedly shot his wife in the front yard, and went inside the residence and took his own life.

"The cause of the incident is not known at this time and remains under investigation."

Bodies Found In Garage, Five Kids Unhurt


"MERIDIAN, ID — Meridian police say they were called out to reports of gunshots on the 1400 block of North Crestmont Drive Saturday night. They say they found 24 year old Kevin Smith and 32 year old Kimberly Smith dead in the garage.

"According to police reports, `All the evidence at the scene, the information we have points to a murder\suicide.`

"Police say that Kevin smith was the shooter. They say they do not know what Led to the shooting. Family members say, Kimberly Smith's five kids were at the house when it happened.

"`No kids hurt. They all were asleep, none of them were awakened by the gun shots,` they added.

"While the family is grieving over what happened, they told me they have to find a place where all five kids can stay together. For now, Meridian police have left them with family members, stating `We will work with health and welfare to make sure the kids are placed in appropriate homes, many times in situations like this there are many family members that step up and will take the children in.`"

"CEDAR HILL, TX — Cedar Hill police are investigating an attempted murder/suicide Thursday involving a woman and her ex-boyfriend.

"The victim, a 33-year-old woman who has not been identified, was shot multiple times but survived, city spokesman Corky Brown said. Kamau Harvey, the 32-year-old suspect, died from a self-inflicted wound.

"Brown said the woman was changing her door locks about 11 a.m. Thursday when Harvey showed up at the house on South Sims Drive.

"A repairman who was fixing the woman’s garage door told police the two were arguing when the victim started walking toward the back door of the home and called 911. Police said Harvey followed her outside into the alley, pulled out a gun and shot her repeatedly.

"He then shot himself after he saw the woman’s neighbors observing the commotion from their fences, Brown said.

"The woman has two children who were not home when the shooting occurred, Brown said.

"He said received several disturbance calls in the weeks leading up to the incident, but did not know whether any of those calls were domestic-violence related."

"ALLENPORT, PA — The man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Washington County was found dead in his car Wednesday.

"Jeanne Bennati, 51, was found dead from a single gunshot wound in front of her home on Locust Street in Allenport, Washington County, around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

"Wednesday morning, [reporters obtained] a photo of what appeared to be a car matching a description of the gunman's car on Route 88.

"State police later confirmed that the man was found dead inside the Corvette with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The coroner identified the man as Ryan Lee Foster.

"`That suspect was located approximately 4 miles from where the shooting involved Ms. Benatti. He was actually found in his vehicle in a parking lot deceased,` Trooper Stefanie Plume said. `They said there were some domestic incidents involving the two of them in the past and with the two of them recently splitting up.`

"The victim’s daughter told [reporters] that her mother was going through a divorce and she feared something like this would happen.

"Authorities said they continue to investigate what led up to the fatal shooting."

"BIRMINGHAM, AL — UPS has released the names of the victims killed in Tuesday’s shooting at a UPS facility on 4601 Inglenook Ln.

"Doug Hutcheson, a 33-year-old driver supervisor from Odenville and Brian Callans, a 46-year-old business manager from Birmingham were both killed by a former employee who then turned the gun on himself, according to a release from the company.

"Hutcheson had been employed at UPS since 1999 and Callans for 26 years.

"As we previously reported, 45-year-old Kerry Joe Tesney was recently fired from the UPS facility, but returned in uniform on Tuesday and shot and killed two supervisors before committing suicide.

"UPS released a statement on Wednesday saying Tesney had worked for the company as a driver for 21 years."

"HOT SPRINGS, AR — Hot Springs police are investigating the death of two men found shot outside of a motel that they say was likely a murder/suicide.

"The Sentinel-Record reports police say 22-year-old Jeremy Simms and 32-year-old Dennis Gormley both died from apparent gunshot wounds Monday outside the Knights Inn on 1871 East Grand. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

"Witnesses say a third person was taken to a hospital and later questioned by detectives. It's unclear if that person is connected to the shooting.

"Capt. Jason Stachey says the bodies have been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy."

Slasher, Victim Found After House Fire


"HARVEY, LA — Jefferson Parish authorities have identified the woman who was found stabbed to death inside a burning Marrero house Monday afternoon, in what they suspect was a murder and attempted suicide. Linda Honeycutt, 50, died of multiple stab wounds, said Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich, the Jefferson coroner.

"She and a man thought to be her boyfriend were found around 1 p.m. inside a house on 1705 Jutland Drive. Both were discovered when authorities searched the home after the fire. Honeycutt's body was toward the rear of the home, said Col. John Fortunato, a Sheriff's Office spokesman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Authorities found Melvin Brooks Jr., 53, in the hallway, a knife wound to his neck and a knife under his body, Fortunato said. He was in critical condition Monday night at University Hospital.

"Authorities do not know Brooks' address, but investigators have been told that he and Honeycutt were dating."

Couple Found Dead, Baby Unharmed And Alone


"ANAHEIM, CA — Anaheim police have released the identities of two people who died in a suspected murder-suicide on Friday.

"Police said in a department statement that the bodies of Natalie Rangel-Diaz and John Thomas Diaz, both 32, were found on the first floor of the home on 744 S. Morningstar Drive.

"The discovery was reported about 8:30 a.m.

"The two were married and both died of gunshot wounds.

"Police said woman’s parents had come to the home to babysit their 7-month-old granddaughter, who was found unharmed.

"The child has been placed in protective custody pending a follow-up by the County of Orange Social Services, police said.

"Police also said they are not seeking any suspects in the case. No arrests were made."

"BELL, FL — Deputies said a man shot and killed his daughter, his six grandchildren and himself inside a home in the small town of Bell in Gilchrist County on Thursday.

"Deputies identified the shooter as 51-year-old Don Spirit and his daughter as 28-year-old Sarah Spirit.

"Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz released the names of the victims. In addition to Sarah Spirit, they were: Kaleb Kuhlmann, 11; Kylie Kuhlmann, 9; Johnathon Kuhlmann, 8; Destiny Stewart, 5; Brandon Stewart, 4; and Alanna Stewart, who was born in June.

"Deputies said Don Spirit called 911 about 4 p.m., and referenced that he would harm people and himself.

"When deputies arrived at the home, which sits on a long dirt road on 29th Street, they said all seven victims were dead, and deputies confronted Spirit before he killed himself in front of the officers.

"During a news conference Friday morning, Gilchrist County's Superintendent of Schools, Rob Rankin, said, `We ask for prayers for our community in light of the tragic events.`"

"AMHERST, NH — Investigators have identified two people killed in a murder/suicide in Amherst this week.

"The Attorney General's Office said the bodies of John Trombly, 35, and his mother, Elizabeth Trombly, 69, were found Tuesday morning when police were called to do a welfare check at 1 Meadow Lane.

"`Once they arrived, they found an adult woman and her adult male son in the home, deceased,` said Assistant Attorney General Stacey Pawlik.

"Officials said an autopsy showed that John Trombly committed suicide and died of a single gunshot wound. They said Elizabeth Trombly died of multiple gunshot wounds, and her death was a homicide.

"Authorities said the weapon used was an AK-47 assault rifle.

"It was not clear how long the bodies had been in the house before they were discovered. A neighbor said there was nothing suspicious going on at the house in recent days.

"A person close to the family said John Trombly had been struggling with addiction and was living at the home with his mother. The person said the two were known to be alive as recently as Friday, but loved ones were concerned about his well-being."

"Victoria Police Chief J.J. Craig said Tuesday that evidence recovered at the scene indicated that Lori Godsey, 49, died of a gunshot wound and that her husband, John Godsey, 51, fired the shot that killed her then shot himself.

"Victoria police officers responded to the couple's home about 8:40 a.m. Sept. 4 on 604 Maplewood Drive in response to a call to check on the welfare of the couple who didn't show up to work that morning.

"Craig declined to provide additional comment about the investigation.

"The Godseys worked for DeTar Healthcare System. Lori was a nurse, and John worked in the engineering department."

"TAYLOR, MI — The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined a double shooting that killed a man and woman in a northwest Taylor house Monday night was a murder/suicide, Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said.

"Police found Renee Lutton, 48, and her boyfriend, James Walker, 59, dead in the small bungalow on 26828 Beverly Road Monday night.

"Lutton’s son went to the house to check on her after not being able to contact her. He discovered the two residents dead inside the home and called police, Sclabassi said.

"Sclabassi said an autopsy Tuesday morning determined that Lutton had multiple gunshot wounds and Walker had a self-inflicted gunshot wound at close range.

"Sclabassi said there was no evidence a third party was involved.

"Police say Anthony Puryear, 39, shot his wife, Shannon Puryear, 37, then killed himself outside a body shop in the 1700 block of Lincoln Avenue, just off Poplar Level Road.

"Police are still attempting to determine a motive and what led up to this shooting.

"They said the Puryears were in the process of getting a divorce and officers had never made any runs to their Louisville home.

"Police said, from what they can determine so far, the incident began with an altercation on the Watterson Expressway.

"Witnesses told police that it was obvious Anthony Puryear in his car was trying to get his wife to pull over her SUV.

"Instead she got off the Watterson Expressway at Poplar Level Road, followed by her husband’s car, police said.

"According to witnesses, she appeared to lose control and crashed into the garage of a nearby body shop.

"Police said Anthony Puryear got out of the car, shot Shannon Puryear, then turned the gun on himself.

"`From what I've been able to see this morning, there's no history of domestic violence. Neither of them had a criminal history. He's an active member of the Army. So there was nothing we saw that would indicate an incident like this happening,` said Louisville Metro Police Department Homicide Unit Lt. Todd Kessinger.

"Family members said the couple have two young daughters."

Killer Confesses After Botched Suicide Bid


"CLEVELAND, OH — A 28-year-old man who jumped in front of a semi-truck before setting himself on fire in Lorain County Monday morning is now indicted on charges he killed his ex-wife before fleeing with their three children.

"Hugo Ramos, who is recovering at Metro Health Medical Center from what authorities say was a suicide attempt, stabbed his ex-wife, Glorimar Ramos-Perez, and now faces charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping, felonious assault, domestic violence and child endangering, according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office.

"Perez, 25, was found dead by Cleveland police Monday around 3 p.m. after state troopers responding to an incident along U.S. Route 20 in Pittsfield Township, told them to go to the Perez' home on Newark Avenue.

"There they forced their way in and found Perez.

"The children, ages 7, 4, and 1 were taken into custody by Lorain County Children Services."

Alcohol Suspected In Shooting Deaths


"SCRANTON, PA — When an argument broke out between neighbors Thomas E. Campion and Anthony M. Collins on Sunday night, Mr. Campion threatened to go into his house, come back outside and kill Mr. Collins.

"Then Mr. Campion retrieved a rifle and followed through on his threat, said Scranton Police Chief Carl Graziano.

"Police arrived on the 100 block of Green Place in the Pine Brook section of the city around 7 p.m. Sunday after reports of shots fired. They found Mr. Collins, 54, dead in the street.

"Mr. Campion, 65, shot himself as police closed in.

"`After (Mr. Campion) shot the victim we believe he fired several more shots in the area, potentially toward some of the other neighbors,` Chief Graziano said.

"Mr. Collins died from multiple gunshot wounds, said Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland on Monday. He ruled the death a homicide.

"Mr. Campion died from a single gunshot wound. His death is ruled a suicide, Mr. Rowland said.

"Chief Graziano said his department’s investigation of the incident is closed. Police found `there may have been some alcohol involved on the part of the shooter.`"

Bodies, Gun Found In Home


"OAKWOOD, VA — An investigation into the shooting deaths of two Buchanan County, Va., residents is now underway.

"Deputies with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched after a disturbance with possible gunshots being fired at an Oakwood area home was reported, Sheriff Ray Foster said in a statement released Monday. Upon arrival, deputies found the bodies of two people with gunshot wounds inside the home.

"After beginning an investigation at the scene, deputies identified the two people as 56-year-old Katherine Diane Cline and her husband, 45-year-old Dallas Edward Cline, both of Oakwood, Va., Foster stated. The incident was reported at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

"Foster said the shooting was currently being considered a murder/suicide.

"The bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Western District in Roanoke, Va., where an autopsy will be performed, Foster said. The investigation is ongoing, pending the results of the autopsies. Investigators did recover a firearm from the scene that is believed to have been used in the shooting."

SWAT Team Finds Bodies In Upscale Community


"MABELTON, GA — Smyrna police say the man and woman found dead in a townhome Sunday appeared to have died as the result of a murder/suicide.

"According to police, Jessica Arrendale, 33, was killed by a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while Antoine Davis, 30, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Smyrna police spokesman Officer Chris Graeff said it appeared Davis and Arrendale knew each other.

"Cobb police officers and Sheriff’s deputies assisted the Smyrna SWAT team as it surrounded 6246 Sawtooth Oak Court in a 12-hour standoff that began when Smyrna police received an armed person call at 1 a.m. Sunday. Graeff said 12 neighbors in the upscale Oakdale Bluffs community were evacuated during the standoff.

"After several hours of unsuccessfully trying to establish a dialogue, Graeff said the SWAT teams entered the house at 1:30 p.m. and found Arrendale and Davis already dead.

"A five-month-old baby was found in the house and was treated for hypothermia at Scottish Rite Hospital. Police said the infant was released from the hospital and is in the care of the Division of Family and Children Services."

Couple Found Shot Behind Closed Doors


"PHOENIX, AZ — A Phoenix couple is in the hospital after a man and woman were found inside a home with gunshot wounds.

"Police say they think one of them may have pulled the trigger.

"While detectives are looking into whether this could be an attempted murder/suicide, they're calling it a case of domestic violence.

"The usual peace and quiet of an apartment complex near 28th Street and Camelback was shattered Sunday afternoon by gunfire.

"But police say, it wasn't a crime of opportunity, rather a domestic violence incident that left a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

"`We believe this was entirely inside the apartment and we have no witnesses at this time,` said Phoenix Police Lt. David Laslavic.

"Detectives are still trying to figure out what exactly went on behind closed doors.

"The man was last listed in critical condition. Police say he's in worse shape than the woman, who was listed in stable condition."

"TRINITY, AL — A man is dead and his wife is in the hospital after an attempted murder/suicide in Trinity. One of their children witnessed the shooting, and the other called 911.

"Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn [told reporters] the man shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself around 8:50 a.m. Sunday morning. It happened a home at 1207 Old Trinity Road.

"Trinity Police Chief Chris McLemore says the couple’s 15-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son were outside the home when they arrived to the scene. When investigators entered the home, they found Angela Cater Wray in the bedroom with a gunshot wound. `Adrian Wray was found still in his wheelchair, with a self-inflected gunshot wound to his head,` Chief McLemore says. He says the couple’s small son witnessed the shootings.

"Investigators said they found a 1911 style 9mm semi-automatic pistol on the floor by his side.

"Med-flight transported Angela to Huntsville Hospital. She underwent emergency surgery. No word yet on her condition.

"Chief McLemore said that area is usually a quiet one. `We had not had any past history of domestic violence calls at that house.`

"Trinity police report the children told them their parents were arguing over money before the incident happened. Police expect the case to be closed shortly. `We’re still waiting on some other results and things, but it seems to be self-evident with witnesses there,` Chief McLemore said."

"ALLENTOWN, PA — A Syrian immigrant from Allentown shot and killed his ex-wife before killing himself today, according to the Lehigh County coroner.

"Coroner Scott Grim confirmed that Mouwaffak L. Makhoul, 51, shot and killed Etab Makhoul, 36, this morning at her home on 1931 East Greenleaf Street in Allentown.

"Mouwaffak L. Makhoul then shot and killed himself, Grim confirmed in a news release.

"Police were called to the home at 8:51 a.m. Grim pronounced Etab Makhoul dead at 9:31 a.m. and Mouwaffak L. Makhoul dead at 9:32 a.m. Both died of gunshot wounds to the body, Grim reported. Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.

"It's unclear what sparked the shooting. Police on the scene would not comment on the matter. Nor would Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim.

"Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said the motive remains unclear.

"`I know the parties were either divorced or estranged. I don't know anything beyond that,` he said."

"EATON, WI — Two people were shot dead late Saturday in what authorities say was a murder/suicide.

"The victims were in the midst of a `divorce situation,` Brown County Sheriff John Gossage said Sunday morning. Their names had not been released as of 1 p.m.

"There were witnesses to the first shooting, Gossage said. The witnesses heard the shot that killed the second person.

"The incident occurred at a house off County T between Wisconsin 29 and County JJ in the town of Eaton, east of Green Bay. Deputies had responded to the scene with a SWAT vehicle.

"Authorities confirmed the deaths shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, but apparently had been on the scene for nearly two hours beforehand. They located a long gun near one of the victims, according to radio transmissions.

"Troopers closed the road to traffic while sheriff's officials investigated at the scene."

Manhunt Ends In Botched Suicide Of Killer


"MAYFIELD, KY — A Kentucky teenager was killed while trying to protect his mother from her estranged boyfriend, and the woman was abducted and later found dead in Ohio during a multistate police search, a sheriff said Friday.

"The suspect, Terry Froman, 41, of Brookport, Illinois, was taken into custody in the Cincinnati area and faced murder and kidnapping charges back in Kentucky, said Dewayne Redmon, the Graves County sheriff in western Kentucky.

"Froman suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital for treatment, he said.

"Froman's vehicle was stopped along Interstate 75 by Ohio authorities, who found 34-year-old Kim Thomas dead inside, the sheriff said.

"Earlier Friday, authorities found the body of her 17-year-old son, Michael E. Mohney, in the living room of his mother's home in Mayfield, Kentucky, while checking on Thomas after she failed to report to work, Redmon said. There were signs of a struggle, he said.

"`What we believe, apparently the son intervened and tried to protect his mother, and it cost him his life,` the sheriff said.

"The teenager suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and an autopsy was scheduled, said Graves County Coroner Phillip McClain."

"OGDEN, UT — Ogden police confirmed Saturday they are looking into the fatal shooting of a man and woman Friday as a likely murder/suicide.

"Ogden Lt. Steve Zaccardi said investigators are still determining the nature of the shooting but are `leaning` toward a murder/suicide from the information available. Ogden police also said Friday the man was the suspect in the case.

"The deceased, both in their 50s, died early Friday evening inside a home at 548 N. Eccles Avenue. A woman in her 20s was also shot in the hand at the home. All three are related, police confirmed, but they didn't say how. Police declined Saturday to identify those killed.

"RICHMOND, KY — Kentucky State Police are investigating a death at a home on Ole Daniel Boone Road in Madison County.

"KSP [told reporters] two victims were found dead with gunshot wounds.

"State police were called to the home for a shooting around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.

"Police say 73-year-old Frederick Graeter, of Richmond, shot his son-in-law, 55-year-old Steven Bryan, of Lexington. They say Graeter then turned the gun on himself.

"`I'm not sure if they were actually in the home. There were other people around the house when this transpired. We are interviewing people and trying to figure out exactly what led to this unfortunate event and that's part of the investigation,` Trooper Robert Purdy with Kentucky State Police told WKYT.

"Officials say the shooting happened after a domestic dispute."

"AUGUSTA, GA — Two shooting victims have been identified in the murder/suicide in Richmond County, Augusta Coroner Mark Bowen.

"The bodies of the couple, that was married for less than 20 days, were found in the master bedroom, the Sheriff's Office said.

"GARDEN GROVE, CA — A 40-year-old man shot himself in the stomach after he tried to kill his wife during an argument early Wednesday at their Garden Grove home, police said.

"Officers were called shortly after 1:30 a.m. to a home in the 12200 block of Pearce Avenue for a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach, Garden Grove police Lt. Ben Stauffer said.

"Officers found Fermin Soto in the garage with a loaded .22 caliber Ruger rifle nearby, Stauffer said. Soto was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he had emergency surgery and is in critical condition, he said.

"The investigation revealed that while Soto and his wife were discussing their marriage and the need to separate, he held the rifle to his head and said he was going to kill himself, Stauffer said. When his wife tried to take the rifle away from him, it went off into the ceiling, he said.

“`The wife ran away from Soto at that time and he fired one round at her, but missed her,` Stauffer said, adding that Soto then apparently shot himself once in the stomach.

"The couple’s two teenage daughters were home at the time, but were unharmed, Stauffer said. A temporary restraining order has been issued against Soto, he said."

"A spokesperson says the deaths appear to be a murder/suicide. The victims are 45-year-old James `Kevin` Denny, a Hardee County official, and his wife 41-year-old Jennifer Denny.

"Deputies arrived on scene around 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday after a suspicious 911 call from Denny in which gunshots were heard with the call still in process.

"ST. CHARLES, MO — Police are investigating the deaths of a couple who appear to be the victims of a murder/suicide.

"According to St. Charles Police Officer Erik Lawrenz, police were dispatched at 2:49 a.m. Wednesday to a home in the first block of Red Cedar Court in reference to a suicidal person.

"Police have identified the victims as Justin L. Frister, 32, of St. Charles, and Jacquelyn N. Adams, 22, of Creve Coeur; both had been shot.

"Lawrenz said a preliminary investigation revealed that the man and woman had been in a relationship and prior to the call, they had been arguing. The man was pronounced dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman was rushed to a hospital where she later died from her wounds.

"The gut-wrenching cries of a neighbor could be heard as word spread that something truly terrible had happened in front of 4205 Malta Street Monday afternoon.

"At 12:35 p.m., police responded to 911 calls of a man with a gun, then neighbors heard three gunshots.

"Officer found three people lying in the front yard, all with gunshot wounds to the head.

"Police believe the gunman was a 42-year-old man who had come to the row home looking for his girlfriend. She wasn't there. Instead, he came upon her 40-year-old sister and his girlfriend's 21-year-old son.

"`We do believe the 42-year-old male shot the female and the younger male and then shot himself in the head. All three are shot in the head,` Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Dennis Wilson said.

"All three were transported to area hospitals in critical condition.

"Paramedics found her outside of the home and transported her to the hospital in serious condition. Doctors unsuccessfully tried to save the baby through an emergency Caesarian section. Jackson was pronounced dead at UAB hospital.

Estranged Husband Returns With Gun


"TAYLORSVILLE, NC — An Alexander County woman is in the hospital after investigators said her son-in-law shot her in the face, then shot and killed her daughter. Deputies said the man shot and killed himself.

"Deputies said Mary Darlene Tarlton called 911 around 7:20 p.m. saying that she and two others had been shot at the home on 448 Chestnut Hunting Lodge Drive.

"Dispatched officers found Brandy Nicole Thompson, 34, and Jonathan Wayne Thompson, 32, dead outside the residence.

"The incident happened near the couple’s 4-month-old son, deputies said. The baby was not injured and is in the care of Department of Social Services.

"Deputies said Jonathan Thompson was the shooter.

"Tarlton was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for surgery. Her condition was not released.

"`It appears the husband and wife had separated about a week ago,` said Sheriff Chris Bowman. `We believe he returned to the house where he once lived with his wife, her mother and their infant son.`

"The sheriff said it’s unclear exactly what led up to the shooting but investigators believe the man shot his wife’s mother in the mouth, then his wife in the chest and then himself in the head.

"MONTGOMERY, AL — Montgomery Police are asking for the State Bureau of Investigation's help after a man committed suicide, but not before confessing to the killing of his wife.

"According to police on Wednesday, the man called an off duty MPD officer, confessed to the murder of his wife, told the officer where they could find her body, and then proceeded to commit suicide.

"MPD located the wife's body at the Quality Inn and Suites on 5035 Carmichael Road in Montgomery. The man's body was located at a cemetery off of Highway 14 and Chapel Hill road in Wetumpka.

"MPD has requested a state-level of investigation of the homicide because of it's relation to the death investigation in a separate jurisdiction.

"It's unclear whether the couple was having problems recently. State agents will be talking to friends and family as part of their investigation."

"SACRAMENTO, CA — Sacramento police say officers responded to an apparent murder/suicide Wednesday morning after dispatchers received a call from a man who said he had just shot his wife and said he was going to take his own life.

"Police discovered the bodies of Angelo and Antoinette Talignani, a couple both around 80 years old, at their Burr Place home after a health aide living with the pair heard gunfire and called 9-1-1 from a neighbor’s house around 8:20 a.m., Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

"The bloodshed began between 7:30 and 8 a.m. when Angelo Talignani went to the nearby home of his brother-in-law, Anthony Gentile, took two guns Gentile legally owned and shot him dead, Molinelli told reporters at a briefing.

"It's not clear whether there was a struggle, Molinelli said.

"Talignani went back home and shot his wife as she lay in bed before turning the gun on himself, the prosecutor said.

"Police found Gentile's body after a relative recognized the guns Talignani used as belonging to him, according to the prosecutor.

"SPRINGFIELD, OH — Springfield police say all evidence leads investigators to believe that a woman shot her two sons then turned the gun on herself Monday morning in Springfield.

"`It’s a tragedy for this community and certainly a tragedy for the family,` said Springfield Police Chief Steve Moody. `Family members are clearly distraught.`

"Chief Moody says police were called to 727 Burt Street just before 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. He says the children’s father arrived at the home to take his sons to school. The father went into the house and found the two boys and their mother shot.

"Police arrived at the scene three minutes after Arthur Johnson called 911.

"The mother, 32-year-old Rachel Johnson, and 7-year-old Daylan Johnson were pronounced dead at the scene. 10-year-old Ayden Johnson was flown to Dayton Children’s Hospital where he died a short time later.

"The injured man works at Rocky Mountain Pavement Company in Adams County, said president Danny Gryzmala.

"`It's just a shock,` Gryzmala said Wednesday morning just before holding a company meeting with many of his 180 employees who may have witnessed the shooting. `We're worried about our employees.`

"Investigators were continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting on 2001 West 64th Lane.

"It was reported at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

"Authorities have not released details about the suspect.

"They also have withheld the names of the suspect and the victim, but the sheriff's office Wednesday evening said in a news release that it appeared the victim and the suspect were in a relationship.

Man Dies In Hospital After Stabbing Grandmother To Death


"DIXON, IL — Investigators believe that after a fight Tuesday afternoon, Theodore `Ted` Howard, 27, stabbed his grandmother, Josephine `Jo` Howard, many times in the Woodland Shores home they shared with other family members.

"He then stabbed himself many times and left the home. Deputies, responding to a 2:40 p.m. 911 call reporting a man covered in blood and holding a knife, found him in the front yard and took the knife away.

"He was taken to KSB Hospital and later died.

"Deputies then found the body of the elder Howard inside the home at 1612 Joliet Way, the release said.

"She would have been 72 Wednesday.

"Jo Howard's daughter, Shirley Bender, 51, said Wednesday afternoon that there was no fight, and that her son, who has mental health issues and is on a variety of medications, `just snapped.`

"`The doctors keep changing his meds,` she said.

"Her mother was sitting at her computer when she was attacked, Bender said, and there was no sign of struggle in the home."

Teen's Killer Shoots Himself When Stopped By Police


"JONESBORO, AR — A Jonesboro teenager was killed Tuesday morning after the man she was purportedly dating shot her at her residence, fled the scene and later killed himself, Jonesboro police said in a statement.

"Jonesboro Police Department Lt. Stephen McDaniel said officials responded to a shooting shortly after 10 a.m. at 3106 Ashwood Drive in Jonesboro, where Diamond Ebron, 17, was found dead from `apparent gunshot wounds.`

"Witnesses told officers that Kenneth Thomas Jr., 26, shot Ebron multiple times with a handgun before driving away in a blue Ford Crown Victoria car, McDaniel said.

"When a Craighead County deputy saw Thomas around 10:17 a.m. driving west on Arkansas 226 near Craighead County Road 161, the deputy prepared to initiate a traffic stop, and Thomas quickly pulled over to the side of the road. As the deputy approached Thomas' vehicle on foot, he heard a single gunshot from inside the car before he found Thomas dead in the car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the statement.

"A 9mm handgun, which police say is `consistent with what officers believe to have been used` in Ebron's shooting, was found with Thomas in the car, McDaniel said."

"ROCKDALE, TX — Rockdale police on Tuesday were investigating what they said they believed is a murder/suicide that left two dead and a third person injured.

"Police were sent at around 6 a.m. Tuesday to 1707 Murray Avenue where the first officers on the scene immediately found Ravanique Newsome, 27, suffering massive head and facial trauma.

"Within a very short time they also found Deidreer Coleman Fowler, 48, and John Keith Andrus, 52, both dead of gunshot wounds to the head.

"Fowler also had a gunshot wound in the abdomen, Rockdale police Chief Thomas Harris said in a Tuesday news release.

"Newsome was taken by ambulance to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center, in Temple, for treatment, Harris said.

"Harris said Newsome was listed in stable condition in the surgical intensive care unit on Tuesday afternoon.

"Milam County Justice of the Peace Gary Northcott pronounced both men dead at the scene and ordered their bodies taken for autopsy."

"TUCSON, AZ — A mother, her baby, and two dogs were shot and killed in the front yard of an eastside home.

"Police were called to an apartment complex on the 1300 block of North Bonanza Avenue, near east Speedway between North Houghton and North Harrison Roads, for reports of multiple gunshots fired just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"Heather Marcucci, 34, 7-week-old Jase David DeBaker and two dogs were found dead in the front yard of the home, from gunshot-inflicted wounds.

"Jeremy DeBaker, 21; was found dead in front of the home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Marucci and Jeremy DeBaker lived together at the home with the child, police say.

"Tucson police Sgt. Pete Dugan, a spokesman for the department, said police are investigating the crime as a double murder/suicide."

Coroner Pronounces Elderly Couple Dead At Scene


"HARRODSBURG, KY — An elderly Mercer County couple were found dead in their home on 1422 Warwick Road Sunday night, the apparent victims of a murder/suicide.

"Glenda Noel, 71, and her husband, Darrel Noel, 71, were found in their home around 9:30 p.m. by an unnamed niece who went to check on the couple at their Mercer County residence following an interrupted telephone conversation, according to Deputy Mercer County Coroner Charles Bugg.

"`They were found in a back bedroom,` said Bugg. `She had a gun shot wound to the back of the head and he had a gun shot wound to the front of the head. They were both dead at the scene.`

"Bugg surmises that Darrel Noel first shot his wife in the back of the head before turning the gun on himself.

"`This will be a lengthy investigation,` said Bugg. `Not because we don't know what happened but because we want to be sure it's done right.`

"Bugg said no suicide note was left behind, and a thorough investigation into Darrel Noel's medical history will need to be conducted to determine if that may have been a factor in the murder/suicide."

"HAZELTON, PA — A husband and wife were found dead in their Hazleton home Sunday night, according to city police who continue to investigate the circumstances.

"Officers responded to Rear 805 N. James St. after a call to 911 alerted officials to two people found inside unresponsive and covered in blood. The pair, victims of apparent gunshot wounds, were pronounced dead at the scene by Luzerne County Deputy Coroner John Paletski.

"Deputy Coroner Jeff Stock identified the couple as Wayne Volciak, 55, and his wife, Michelle Volciak, 51.

"Michelle operated a cake and cupcake bakery from the building for multiple years called Michelle’s Creative Cakes, as a faded sign on the side of the building indicates. Monday afternoon a vehicle from Northeast Biohazard Remediation was parked in the driveway as an American flag and a Pennsylvania flag waved in the breeze in the then-quiet neighborhood.

"The Volciaks, Stock said, were found in the same room of the home by their daughter, who called Luzerne County 911, upon finding them Sunday night.

"Though no official time of death has been released yet, the couple died within hours of being found, Stock said. The coroner’s office continues to investigate."

Woman Found In Burning House Is Suspected Slasher


"BREMERTON, WA — Sheriff's detectives now say they believe a stabbing victim who died Sunday was killed by his wife, who remains in Harborview Medical Center with severe burns from a fire inside the home where she was found.

"The 54-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds when deputies arrived Sunday morning at 8534 Covina Loop NE in East Bremerton, the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

"His 55-year-old wife is suspected to be responsible for the killing and is being treated for severe burns and smoke inhalation at Harborview, the Sheriff's Office said. She is not in custody at this time.

"Deputies responded to the home after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor, who told dispatchers that the victim had been stabbed and stumbled across the road to his residence for help. The neighbor performed first aid while waiting for medics and law enforcement to arrive.

"Deputies arrived six minutes after the call and found the victim being treated on the front porch of the neighbor’s residence. Medics arrived two minutes later and took the victim to Harrison Hospital in Silverdale in preparation for airlift to Harborview. However, the victim died at the hospital.

"Responding deputies also spotted smoke coming from the residence where the stabbing had taken place. Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly and found the victim’s wife lying inside the home.

"She was removed and taken to Harrison Hospital, then airlifted to Harborview.

"Detectives obtained a search warrant and entered the home where they found several ignition sites where the fire was started inside the home. Detectives also found what is suspected to be the murder weapon, the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office said.

"Detectives said they are not looking for any additional suspects in connection with the stabbing. The names of the victim and his wife have not been released."
