Coroner Pronounces Elderly Couple Dead At Scene
"HARRODSBURG, KY — An elderly Mercer County couple were found dead in their home on 1422 Warwick Road Sunday night, the apparent victims of a murder/suicide.
"Glenda Noel, 71, and her husband, Darrel Noel, 71, were found in their home around 9:30 p.m. by an unnamed niece who went to check on the couple at their Mercer County residence following an interrupted telephone conversation, according to Deputy Mercer County Coroner Charles Bugg.
"`They were found in a back bedroom,` said Bugg. `She had a gun shot wound to the back of the head and he had a gun shot wound to the front of the head. They were both dead at the scene.`
"Bugg surmises that Darrel Noel first shot his wife in the back of the head before turning the gun on himself.
"`This will be a lengthy investigation,` said Bugg. `Not because we don't know what happened but because we want to be sure it's done right.`
"Bugg said no suicide note was left behind, and a thorough investigation into Darrel Noel's medical history will need to be conducted to determine if that may have been a factor in the murder/suicide."
