Alcohol Suspected In Shooting Deaths
"SCRANTON, PA — When an argument broke out between neighbors Thomas E. Campion and Anthony M. Collins on Sunday night, Mr. Campion threatened to go into his house, come back outside and kill Mr. Collins.
"Then Mr. Campion retrieved a rifle and followed through on his threat, said Scranton Police Chief Carl Graziano.
"Police arrived on the 100 block of Green Place in the Pine Brook section of the city around 7 p.m. Sunday after reports of shots fired. They found Mr. Collins, 54, dead in the street.
"Mr. Campion, 65, shot himself as police closed in.
"`After (Mr. Campion) shot the victim we believe he fired several more shots in the area, potentially toward some of the other neighbors,` Chief Graziano said.
"Mr. Collins died from multiple gunshot wounds, said Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland on Monday. He ruled the death a homicide.
"Mr. Campion died from a single gunshot wound. His death is ruled a suicide, Mr. Rowland said.
"Chief Graziano said his department’s investigation of the incident is closed. Police found `there may have been some alcohol involved on the part of the shooter.`"
