Woman Survives Shooting Rampage By Hiding In Closet

"INDIAN HILLS, CO — A 25-year-old man shot and killed his stepmother and wounded his father before taking his own life during a Monday night argument at the family's Indian Hills home, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

"Deputies responded to the home at 23038 Pawnee Rd. at 10:05 p.m. after receiving a call from 24-year-old Sarah McConaghie. She said she had heard gunfire from the main level of the family home after her stepbrother had an argument with her parents, according to the sheriff's office.

"A dispatcher radioed deputies that McConaghie said her stepbrother `has started shooting` and she heard her parents screaming and had locked herself in her bedroom, according to a recording of radio traffic provided by RadioReference.com.

"McConaghie, who was calling from a closet in her bedroom, remained hidden and on the phone with dispatchers until deputies arrived on scene.

"Deputies entered the home through an unlocked rear door and soon found three people on the main floor who had been shot.

"The mother, 53-year-old Margaret Leiman, and her stepson, 25-year-old Robert Leiman, were both pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff's officials said. The father, 58-year-old Bruce Leiman, was transported by air-ambulance to Swedish Hospital. He was in stable condition on Tuesday night.

"An autopsy showed Margaret Leiman died from multiple gunshot wounds, and Robert Leiman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office."

SWAT Team Finds Shotgun Killer Dead

"RED LION, PA — A woman murdered by her boyfriend in York Township Tuesday night had fled his home with two other people, but he walked outside with a shotgun and fatally shot her as she sat inside a vehicle, according to police.

"Jessica Mellinger, 24, of New Freedom, died of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to York County Coroner Pam Gay, who has ruled the young woman's death a homicide.

"Her killer, 24-year-old John R. Snyder of 525 S. Franklin St., died early Wednesday morning of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and his death has been ruled a suicide, Gay said.

"According to York Area Regional Police Sgt. Jeff Dunbar, Mellinger and two residents of the Snyder home fled the home and got inside a vehicle parked in the driveway.

"Snyder went outside with the shotgun and killed Mellinger, then dragged her body back inside the home, according to Dunbar.

"The two other people who fled ran to a neighbor's home and called 911, he said.

"Snyder opened fire on arriving officers as they approached the home about 11 p.m., forcing the officers to take cover, according to Dunbar.

"Snyder continued to shoot at officers for a period of time, and at one point an officer returned fire when he felt his `position of cover` had been compromised, according to Dunbar.

"Gay said it appears Snyder's only wound was the self-inflicted one.

"Police set up a safety perimeter around the home and made contact with Snyder by calling his cell phone.

"But Snyder ended contact with police about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday—which is when officers heard the last shots coming from inside, Dunbar said.

"York County's Quick Response Team, a SWAT-type unit, arrived and took over about 3 a.m., the sergeant said.

"They entered the home about 4:30 a.m. and found both Mellinger and Snyder dead, Dunbar said.

"Snyder and Mellinger had been in a domestic dispute prior to her murder, the sergeant said.

"No autopsies will be performed, Gay said."

"Officers said when they arrived, they noticed through a window that there was blood on the carpet of the front room as well as empty handgun shell casings. When officers entered the home, they found the bodies of five people who had all sustained gunshot wounds.

"Investigators said Joshua Boren, 34, killed four family members and then took his own life. They said no suicide note was found in the home.

"The four victims have been identified as Kelly Boren, 32, Joshua `Jaden` Boren, 7, Haley Boren, 5, and Marie King, 55. King has been identified as Kelly’s mother.

"Investigators said Joshua and Kelly had been experiencing marital problems for the past several months and recently separated.

"During a press conference Friday, Spanish Fork police said Joshua worked as an officer with the Lindon City Police Department. He also previously worked as a deputy with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office for about seven years as a patrol officer and with their corrections department.

"Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff’s Office, said Joshua Boren resigned from UCSO, but was re-hired part-time.

"Cody Cullimore, the Lindon City Police Chief, said Joshua had been a Lindon police officer for about three months and he had already got to know the Boren family through some events held by the department.

"Cullimore said it was his understanding that Joshua and Kelly Boren had separated, but were on friendly terms.

"`There were no red flags. Everything about him was outstanding,` Cullimore said in an interview Friday morning. `[It is] a tragedy on so many levels. We may never know what happened, why it happened. Unfortunately, the people that know are no longer here.`"

Family Of Four Found Dead In Home

"IRMO, SC — A husband, wife and their two young children are dead following an apparent murder/suicide near Irmo, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

"The four were found Wednesday morning after police were called around 10:30 to the home at 1 Forest Walk Court in the Riverwalk neighborhood off Broad River Road.

"The children were discovered in their individual bedrooms, and the two adults were found together in their bedroom, said Sgt. Curtis Wilson, spokesman for Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Each of the four was shot in the upper body, he said.

"A handgun was found near the father, Wilson said. The sheriff’s department’s initial assessment is that the incident was a domestic situation. Wilson said authorities would investigate whether any previous domestic violence calls had been made to the house.

"The man’s mother had not heard from her son in a couple of days, went to the house, discovered the bodies and called authorities, Wilson said.

"Neither the sheriff’s department nor the Richland County Coroner’s Office would identify the victims. But Richland County property records show the house is owned by Sheddrick and Kia Miller, who bought the home in 2012.

"Wilson said authorities are working to determine when the four were killed."

Mom Shoots Daughters, Self As Boyfriend Moves Out

"SYRACUSE, UT — A 32-year-old Utah mom gunned down her two young daughters and then herself on Tuesday—just one day after her fiancé came to move his things out of their shared Syracuse home.

"Kyler Ramsdell-Oliva shot daughters Kenadee, 13, and Isabella, 7, around 6 p.m. before turning the gun on herself.

"Her fiancé, KSTU-TV reported, was outside with a U-Haul truck just as the gunshots rang out. Police had supervised the couple as the unidentified man moved his belongings out of the home around 6 p.m. Monday.

"Cops quickly ruled the man out as a suspect, the Deseret News reported.

"`It’s considered a murder/suicide, so there are no suspects at large. We’ve spoken to the fiancé (and) we’ve spoken to the family... And that’s when we came to the conclusion it was a murder/suicide,` Syracuse Police Officer Erin Behm told the newspaper.

"Police first came to the home Monday. About 24 hours later, tragedy struck.

"Police say the family had lived in the town for about three months—and the young girls had only just entered school. Kenadee, an eighth-grader at a local junior high, had only attended one day of school while Isabella, a first-grader, attended about a week of classes, the Deseret News reported.

"The mother’s Facebook page is littered with photos of herself and two young daughters in happier times.

"Just last week, Ramsdell-Oliva wrote that she was `feeling annoyed` as she wrote on Facebook about apparent relationship troubles.

"`I hate people who feel it’s their right to come in the middle of a relationship and try to fix it or give their opinion,` she wrote. `You aren’t in that relationship for a reason so don’t put yourself in between it. Focus on your own life and your own problems.`

"Cops have not released a motive for the crime and autopsies are pending."

"WAYNE, PA — A quiet residential street in the affluent Main Line hamlet of Wayne was jolted yesterday afternoon by an apparent murder/suicide that orphaned three children.

"`At 2:20 p.m., we received a report of a shooting at 319 S. Wayne Ave., and later discovered that the person who made the call was actually the same person who committed the shooting,` said Radnor Township Police Chief William Colarulo.

"`This was a couple in their 40s,` Colarulo said. `The female was shot at least twice. The male suffered one gunshot wound that appears to be self-inflicted. The weapon was a .357 Magnum.`

"Colarulo said the shooting happened at a guesthouse not attached to the couple's home. He said an 8-year-old son was in a bedroom of the main house at the time of the shooting, and was not aware it had occurred.

"The couple's 17-year-old daughter was not at home. Another daughter, 15, was away at boarding school in Minnesota.

"`This is a tragic situation for everyone involved, especially for those children,` Colarulo said.

"Colarulo said: `This is an open-and-shut case as far as we're concerned. Now the real tragedy starts because you have three children who have no parents.`"

Slasher Lunges At Police, Gets Shot 29 Times

"METAIRIE, LA — Jefferson Parish deputies shot a man 29 times when he lunged at them with a knife over the weekend and say it appears to have been a case of `suicide by cop.`

"Sheriff Newell Normand released the details Tuesday morning of the Pier Street stabbing and shooting.

"The sheriff says his deputies responded to the 1300 block of Pier Street Saturday night after neighbors told them Noah Scott had stabbed his girlfriend to death.

"26 year-old Jessica Broussard died on the scene.

"Deputies found Scott inside the house and say he wouldn't drop the knife and kept telling deputies to shoot him.

"Scott was killed when deputies say he lunged at them.

"People in the normally quiet Metairie neighborhood were celebrating the Saints win Saturday night when they noticed 26 year-old Jessica Broussard stumbling from her boyfriend's house.

"`I tried to go to her. Her clothes were removed and she was bleeding really, really bad so I got a towel and tried to slow down the bleeding. There wasn't too much we could do for her,` said neighbor Keith Mercier.

"`The girl was screaming, he's stabbing me. She ended up on my front lawn and he was over her continuing to stab her.`

"Sheriff deputies quickly arrived and they say Broussard's boyfriend, 29 year- old Noah Scott walked back into the house. Deputies knocked on the door and they say Scott answered with a knife in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

"`All three officers were right at the entrance of the home. Scott was inside. Officers repeatedly asked him to drop the knife. Mr. Scott repeatedly asked the officers to shoot him,` said Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand.

"Sheriff Newell Normand says moments later, Scott ran toward deputies.

"`At that point in time, the three officers simultaneously fired what we believe is either 35 or 36 rounds,` said Normand.

"An autopsy later revealed Scott was shot 29 times.

"Olmsted County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on 6948 100th Street North at around 4pm after getting a call from one of the victims' relatives.

"When officers entered a heated shed on the property, they came upon the body of 18-year-old Kayla Jill Koranda. Lying nearby they found Nicholas Roecker, 19, who was clinging to life.

"Roecker was rushed to Mayo Clinic Hospitals, where he died a short time later, according to officials.
Olmsted County Sheriff David Mueller told the Minneapolis Star Tribune a handgun used in the suspected murder/suicide was recovered at the scene.

"The 19-year-old victim, who lived at the house with his family, attended the University of Minnesota- Duluth, while Koranda was a student at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis.

"Sheriff Mueller told MailOnline over the phone Tuesday that it appears the victims were just friends and not a couple.

"According to a statement from the sheriff’s office released to MailOnline this afternoon, the two deceased were classmates at Lourdes High School—a Catholic institution in Rochester. Koranda and Roecker were also Facebook friends."
