Botched Suicide Sends Killer To Hospital
"JACKSONVILLE, FL — A botched murder/suicide ended with the arrest of a 45-year-old Jacksonville man Monday and the death of his girlfriend inside a home they shared.
"Michael Joseph Day was charged with murder and absentee-booked into the Duval County jail while he is hospitalized for treatment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Assistant Chief Chris Butler said Tuesday.
"Kendra Michelle Nagy, 33, was found dead in a bedroom of the house on Sunderland Road where police were called Friday after friends showed up concerned for her safety. The night before while Nagy was off duty but with Day at the Overtime Sports Bar where she worked, he started belittling her, Butler said. She eventually went home without him but later texted messages to a friend saying she was scared and that Day was `acting out,` according to the arrest police report.
"`Later that night Day sent texts declaring he had made a huge mistake and there was 'no turning back now,'` the report said.
"The next morning when Nagy didn’t show up for work, co-workers went to the house near Blanding Boulevard in Jacksonville’s Lake Shore neighborhood, where a wounded Day came to the door bleeding from the head. Police said the witnesses saw him trying to clean up blood."
