Toddler Survives Mom's Knife Attack

"YORK, PA — Fairview Township Police have released the name of a Fairview Township woman who investigators believe cut her son's neck before stabbing herself in the chest Friday morning.

"She is Candis Bradshaw, 36, of 89 Foxfire Lane, according to police.

"Her 2-1/2-year-old son escaped life-threatening injuries when Bradshaw apparently cut his neck, according to police, who said the woman then stabbed herself in the chest.

"The toddler suffered two lacerations, each several inches long, on each side of his neck, police said.

"Township police officers were called to Bradshaw's home in the upscale Hedgerow development about 8:45 a.m., Acting Police Chief Jason Loper said.

"Bradshaw's young son suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his neck, according to police.

"`It appears the child will be OK,` Loper said. `It could have been much worse.`

"Loper said he is hopeful Bradshaw also will survive her injuries.

"`It appears to be a suicide attempt` by Bradshaw, preceded by an apparent murder attempt on her son, Loper said. However, he noted the investigation is still ongoing and is in the preliminary stages.

"Bradshaw and her son were flown to Hershey Medical Center by medical helicopter, he said."
