"He Was A Good Guy When He Wasn't Drinking"

"MCALESTER, OK — A man is dead and his son is in critical condition after a shooting and suicide in McAlester late Friday night. The sheriff said heavy drinking and arguing led up to the shooting.

"Pittsburg County Sheriff, Joel Kern, said the man was shot four times by his dad, who then turned the gun on himself. He said the dispute started when the son spilled Coke in the dad's car.

"Kern said the dad, William Gibson, his wife and his son Aaron were at a festival where they were asked to leave for drinking excessively.

"The sheriff said during their drive home to the 600 block of Pelican Avenue, the son spilled Coke in the car, starting an argument. The argument moved to the son's garage apartment.

"Once at home, around 11:30 Friday night, Kern said Gibson began choking his wife, threatening to kill her and his son. Gibson left his son's apartment and went to his home nearby, coming back with a 9 mm pistol, he said.

"The sheriff said he knows the family personally.

"`We've dealt with them a little bit in the past, but I personally know the family. I know they've had problems in the past, but yet, nothing this serious,` Kern said. `Yeah, I mean he's a good guy. He was a good guy, when he wasn't drinking.`

Botched Suicide Bid Follows Murder Of TV Personality

"ST. GABRIEL, LA — Baton Rouge television personality Scott Rogers was shot and killed inside his home in St. Gabriel, La. Wednesday afternoon. Investigators say they believe his son-in-law shot and killed Rogers and then turned the gun on himself, but survived.

"The alleged gunman, identified as 36-year-old Mathew Hodgkinson, was rushed to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. Hodgkinson was also a producer of Around Town, a show Rogers hosted that airs on Saturday and Sunday mornings on WAFB-TV.

"`We have detectives at the hospital,` says Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi. `Hodgkinson is still alive. He's on a ventilator and he's sedated, but he's still alive at this time.`

"Deputies were called to the scene on 1045 Daisy Avenue at 12:40 p.m.

`"We received a call that shots were heard as somebody was entering the residence,` the Sheriff said. `On follow up, it was described as a murder/suicide scene and we're investigating it as a homicide until it's determined what we have here.`

"`It was determined that Scott Rogers was deceased and another male at the residence had received a shot to the head and was in critical condition,` said Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi.

"Hodgkinson is married to Roger's daughter, Stassi said. The sheriff said the home had been the scene of a `bunch of stress` in the past several weeks and had previously responded to calls at the home.

"`It's been topsy-turvy at this residence. We responded to a couple of calls. It's been a high stress environment for this family and looks like it culminated in this,` the Sheriff said."

Suspected Killer Found Dead In Creek

"PARKERSBURG, WV — Parkersburg Police say it all started with a homicide on Saturday.

"They say Daniel Whipkey was found dead, with bruises on Lulu Street in Parkersburg.

"His roommate, Robert Gagliardi, tells them Whipkey has a history of health problems and had been drinking and fell down the steps Friday night.

"Investigators say in the initial investigation on Saturday they found a hole in the wall and other evidence to show that was possible, and no obvious signs of foul play.

"Still, with some suspicion, police sent the body for an autopsy.

"Police say autopsy results on Monday showed a different story—that Whipkey had been beaten to death.

"Investigators say neighbors also began to talk, saying the two roommates had a history of fighting.

"Police say they had intentions to interview Gagliardi again on Tuesday but instead they found his body, dead from an apparent suicide by Worthington Creek.

"While Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin says it is not officially case closed without a few more interviews, they do believe the two are the only ones involved in the fight that killed Whipkey and clear evidence Gagliardi did shoot himself.

"Whipkey is 54-years-old, Gagliardi is 45-years-old."
