Shooter Found Dead At Closed Restaurant

"GULF BAY, AL — A domestic violence incident between a man and a woman who recently broke up escalated at a residence Wednesday afternoon with one nearly shot to death and the other committing suicide in Orange Beach, according to authorities.

"Gulf Shores police were called to the 600 block of East Canal Road at 2:36 p.m. for a report of a shooting, according to police spokesman Cpl. Josh Coleman.

"`We determined that it was a domestic violence incident and the offender shot at the victim while she was inside her vehicle,` Coleman said. `And it was close.`

"She was taken by ambulance to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Coleman said.

"After shooting through the driver's side window of the woman's vehicle, the man fled the scene, according to Coleman. Gulf Shores police put a call out to surrounding agencies, specifically Orange Beach police, with a description of the man's vehicle.

"Around 3:30 p.m. Orange Beach officers located the suspect in his vehicle at a strip mall on Canal Road at Gulf Bay Road, where the old Lester's restaurant was located, said Orange Beach Police Chief Billy Wilkins.

"`We just know (Gulf Shores police) called us and said they thought he was headed over here and our folks encountered him at that spot where he got out of his vehicle and killed himself,` Wilkins said."
