SWAT Team Finds Dead Shooter

"MODESTO, CA — A nearly 6-hour standoff with a shooting suspect ended Sunday morning when Modesto police found the suspect dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Victor Salazar Ramirez, 30, is accused of shooting a male victim once and a female victim multiple times inside a home on the 1100 block of Cannes Avenue around 12:05 a.m., Modesto Police Officer Heather Graves said.

"When officers arrived at the scene, family members, including children, were escaping from the home. The male victim was able to get out of the home with the family. He was treated for a gunshot wound and then taken to a hospital.

"Family members told police that the female victim was still trapped inside the home with Ramirez. Graves said officers came up with a plan and rescued her. She was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital.

"Both victims' conditions were stabilized at the hospital. No other information was released about the victims.

"Graves said Ramirez barricaded himself in the home when officers arrived at the scene. SWAT and a negotiator were also called to the scene.

"Around 6:35 a.m., officers entered the home and found Ramirez dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other information about Ramirez was released by police.

"It is unclear why Ramirez shot the two victims."
