Shots Fired On Quiet Street, One Dead, One Critical

"ROYSE CITY, TX — A deadly case of domestic violence poured out onto a quiet street in Royse City Friday morning. A Navy veteran was killed and his wife is struggling to survive after being shot several times.

"Royse City police say the husband, Scott Arthur Croop, 39, shot his wife, Kara Elizabeth Croop, 33, multiple times before killing himself on the street outside their suburban home.

"Police Chief Jeff Stapleton said dispatchers received reports of multiple gunshots outside a home on 429 Cookston Lane at 9:05 a.m. When they arrived, Mr. Croop was dead in the middle of the street. Stapleton said Mrs. Croop was also found shot outside the home. She was taken to Baylor Medical Center in critical condition.

"Lisa Canterberry, the Garland-based attorney who represented Kara Croop, said Mrs. Croop had filed for divorce in November. Scott Croop was set to sign the paperwork on Monday. She said he was a Navy veteran and Friday was his retirement day. The two separated in July.

"Canterberry said Mr. Croop shot his wife five times and he was shot once in the head."
