"They Were Real Good People"

"BEAUMONT, TX — A Beaumont Police Department spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon that the deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found Monday inside a house located at 360 Church Street in Beaumont's south end, are the result of a murder/suicide. The couple has been identified as Mark Pelligrin, 57, and Kathy Pelligrin, 55.

"The spokesperson said it appears Mr. Pelligrin shot Mrs. Pelligrin before turning the gun on himself.

"Mr. and Mrs. Pelligrin have married for two years.

"Police ruled their deaths a murder/suicide following autopsies conducted Tuesday morning.

"A police spokesperson said Mr. Pelligrin's employer went to check on him because he had not shown up for work. When no one answered the door the employer went next door to the home of Mr. Pelligrin's daughter. The spokesperson said when the daughter went into the home, she found her father on the kitchen floor. She asked her dad's boss to call police.

"Jefferson County Precinct 6 Justice of the Peace Judge Ransom Jones pronounced the victims dead at the scene.

"The police presence got a lot of neighbors' attention Monday. Most said they are also clueless as to how the couple could have died.

"`I've never seen nothing bad over here. Down this street or anything going on bad. To me they were real good people,` Neighbor Beulah Mathis said.

"Late Monday some neighbors remembered hearing what they say sounded like fireworks late last week, believing it now may have been gunfire."
