Provocation For Murder/Suicide Unknown

"FORT WORTH, TX — Two men were fatally shot Thursday afternoon in an apparent murder-suicide that led to the brief lockdown of a Castleberry middle school, authorities reported.

"Charles Rivers, 41, was found dead at 3:21 p.m. in Rivers Tree Service in the 4600 block of White Settlement Road, the Tarrant County medical examiner's office reported.

"Gregory Rivers, 61, was found dead at 6:40 p.m. in a vehicle in the 4900 block of West Vickery Boulevard, according to the medical examiner's website. Both men's address is in the 3000 block of Trailwood Drive East in Burleson.

"Police got the first call about a shooting shortly after 3 p.m. Officers found the younger man's body at the tree service, and an employee told police who had shot him and described the suspect's vehicle, said a news release from officer Clifton Miller, a police spokesman.

"Police notified Castleberry school officials that they were searching for a gunman near Castleberry High School and Irma Marsh Middle School, Superintendent Gary Jones said. At the middle school, administrators used a panic button to lock the doors, Jones said. After about 20 minutes, students were allowed to leave.

"The suspect's SUV was spotted about 5:30 p.m. in Ed Collett Park in the 4900 block of West Vickery Boulevard, Miller said.

"Police tried to talk to the driver, but he did not respond. A SWAT unit was called to approach the SUV. The unit found a man dead inside, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot, Miller said.

"Detectives did not know what provoked the shootings, police said."
