Brothers Found Shot, No Gunman Sought

"RIVERTON, IL — Authorities say they are investigating a possible murder-suicide at a home in the 700 block of North Third Street in Riverton.

"The Sangamon County coroner's office identified the men as brothers James Angwin, 56, and Thomas Angwin, 62.

"Police reported Saturday they found the men dead inside the home from apparent gunshot wounds, according to Riverton Police Chief Dave Smith.

"A third relative discovered the bodies about 9 a.m. and called police, Smith said.

"Although the bodies were found Saturday morning, Smith said it wasn't immediately known when the shooting occurred.

"`It could have been two days ago, one day ago or (Saturday) morning,` he said.

"Smith said it was too early to conclude it was a murder-suicide. However, he said police are not searching for a gunman.

"Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards said an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.

"If confirmed, the murder is the first in Riverton since 2001, Smith said.

"`This is very rare to have something like this happen in Riverton,` he said."
