One Dead, One Stable After Motel Incident
"BAYOU VISTA, LA — On Saturday March 30, 2013 at 8:28 am the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a shooting at the Plantation Inn in Bayou Vista, LA. Upon arrival, deputies located an unresponsive male subject inside one of the motel rooms. Another subject, a 26 year old female from Bayou L'Ourse, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. The unresponsive male, identified as 36 year old Vernon Singleton of Morgan City, was pronounced deceased by the St. Mary Parish Coroner at the scene.
"Detectives determined that, while inside the motel room, Singleton produced a handgun and shot the female victim in the face while she was lying next to him in the bed. Singleton then turned the gun on himself, inflicting a single fatal gunshot wound to the head. The female victim was able to leave the room and seek help at the front desk of the motel.
"The victim was later transported to a hospital in New Orleans for treatment. Currently, she is in stable condition.
"The case remains under investigation."
