Shooter Ends Standoff By Killing Himself

"RICHMOND, VA — Two people are dead in what Richmond Police are calling a murder/suicide in South Richmond.

"Police were called to a home in the 3900 block of Rusk Avenue on Saturday afternoon to check on the welfare of a person there. Upon arrival, police saw a woman’s body through a window. When police entered the home, they exchanged gunfire with a man inside.

"Two Richmond Police officers were injured in the shooting. Their injuries were considered non-life threatening and the officers are expected to make full recoveries.

"For four hours, police stood guard outside the home and attempted to make contact with the man inside. Eventually police threw tear gas into the house hoping to force the man outside.

"Police have identified the two adults found deceased inside the home as Christine Squire, 33, and Clarence Taylor II, 38.

"Detectives are treating the case as a probable murder/suicide. Police [said] although it is early in their investigation, the evidence indicates Taylor shot Squire, then, after exchanging gunfire with officers who entered the residence to check on her welfare, turned the gun on himself.

"People who live around the home were allowed back to their homes around 7:45 p.m."
