Suspected Shooter Had Record Of Domestic Abuse
"BATON ROUGE, LA — An investigation is underway into the shooting deaths of two people that detectives say was the result of an apparent murder/suicide.
"The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said it happened at the Pecue Mobile Home Estates in Baton Rouge around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The mobile home park is located on Old Pecue Lane, which is just off Airline Highway.
"East Baton Rouge Parish Prison booking records show the suspected shooter in the murder/suicide was arrested on a domestic abuse battery charge in September. Deputies said they responded to what was described as a loud domestic dispute. Investigators added the deputies discovered two bodies inside a trailer when they arrived on the scene.
"`My office was called to the scene because of the two deceased victims in the home behind us, so we approached scene and did our investigation and it appears to have been a murder-suicide,` said East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. William Clark.
"The woman has been identified by investigators as Brittany Rogers, 26. According to Clark, she died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. The man, who police believe was the shooter, is Sedric Richard, 39. Clark added Richard died from a gunshot to the head.
"According to booking records, Richard was arrested on September 25 for domestic abuse battery and was released the next day.
"Investigators also said the couple had children that were not home at the time of the shooting. They reported those children are now in the care of family members.
"The investigation is ongoing."
