Botched Murder/Suicide Sends Pair To Separate Hospitals
"COLUMBUS, OH — A man shot a woman, who was reported to be his wife, and then turned the gun on himself inside a car parked behind the LDS temple in Columbus, Ohio, Tuesday afternoon, police said.
"The suspected shooter, Sokkha Chant, 65, was in life-threatening condition at Riverside Methodist Hospital Tuesday night while the woman, Soth Sin, 33, was in critical condition at Mount Carmel West.
"Homicide detective Sgt. Chris Holzhauser said they don't know why the confrontation occurred in the parking lot of the Columbus Ohio Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3870 Gateway Blvd.
"Before the shooting, Sin was with another man, Neng Sith, 52, in a car being followed by Chant in another vehicle, police said. When both stopped in the temple's parking lot, Chant got into the 2010 Toyota Corolla with Sin, and Sith fled, Holzhauser said.
"Sith was not struck by gunfire.
"Chant was charged in a domestic-violence case involving Sin on Jan. 20, according to police and court records.
"Eric Young, who is a temple volunteer, said a woman inside the temple saw the two cars drive fast onto the lot but nothing beyond that."
