Argument Leads To Attempted Murder/Suicide In Nursing Home

"ORANGE PARK, FL — A domestic dispute leads one man to shoot his wife before fatally turning the gun on himself.

"The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 75-year-old James Stanton was visiting his wife, 68-year-old Patricia, in the Life Care Center at 2145 Kingsley Avenue. At 3:30 PM the Office received a call from the Center that multiple shots had been fired.

"`They have found two people inside the facility who had been shot. One was deceased upon our arrival and the other one was transported to Orange Park Medical Center,` says CCSO Lieutenant Jim Morgan.

"Morgan says it appears there was some kind of argument, and James Stanton then shot his wife before shooting himself in her room. He died, and at last report Patricia was in life-threatening condition.

"He did not know at this time if there was any history of violence between the Clay County couple, or how the gun may have gotten inside the private facility.

"Part of the building was locked down while investigators determined there was no other person or shooter involved. There was no evacuation, and the facility is operational at this time.Morgan says the other people inside are at no risk whatsoever."
