Father And Son Dead After Business Argument
"MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, MI — Police say a Muskegon Township man stabbed his father to death before shooting himself Thursday afternoon after an argument over a new business venture.
"Muskegon Township Police Chief Ken Sanford said 30-year-old Justin Michael Laverty and 57-year-old David Michael Laverty were working on a swimming pool at the home on 2199 Becker Road. During the project, the two began arguing over a new business David and his wife planned to launch.
"`They had been arguing since late morning,` Sanford said.
"David's wife and Justin's mother left for 30 to 40 minutes to run an errand for the pool project in the afternoon. She arrived home around 3:45 p.m. to find both dead inside the home.
"Sanford said Justin apparently stabbed his father outside with a knife. David stumbled inside to the kitchen area, where he died.
"Justin apparently then went upstairs into a bedroom and shot himself in the head with a shotgun the family owned, Sanford said. Justin was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"Evidence inside the house showed a struggle took place before the deaths."
