"They Were Good People"

"SMYRNA, GA — Residents of a Smyrna townhouse neighborhood were in shock Thursday after learning of the double shooting deaths of a couple who lived on their street.

"Smyrna Police said William Whitaker, 44, and his wife, Lynn Whitaker, 48, were found dead by their 25-year-old son around 10 p.m. Wednesday at their town house on 1719 Cumberland Valley Drive, off Spring Road.

"`The preliminary investigation revealed this is the result of a domestic dispute,` Officer Michael Smith said in a news release. `There is no danger to the community.`

"Neighbors said the Whitakers were both postal workers.

"`They were good people,` Melvin Drake said. `What happened last night—I have no idea.`

"Janice Sowe said Wednesday seemed like a typical quiet day in the neighborhood, which is made of several clusters of townhouses. She said William Whitaker was always willing to help neighbors out with their cars.

"`No one would have anything bad to say about them, because they were the type of couple that would do anything for a stranger,` Sowe said."

  2. My heart is heavy for the families of Lynn and William. Lynn was a friend and coworker. I want everyone to know she loved her family. Her sons and mother will need all our prayers. Also the Whitaker family needs our prayers. I really regret that no one was able to prevent this tragedy. God please help the families. I just wish I could have said something.years ago that could have prevented this horrible domestic dispute. I just want Lynn mother and sons to know that I really tried

  3. May god bless you Mrs. Lynn!!! I was a classmate of your oldest son, and I can vouch that you loved BOTH of your sons dearly...you wanted nothing but the best for them! I hate the fact that you will no longer be here to share special moments with them like being there for their weddings, the birth of their children, being their shoulder to cry on and lending them great advice. Both CJ and Jr. will need all of our (family,friends,co-workers,classmates, and community) support to begin to cope with this devastating situation.

  4. I hope you are burning in hell WILLIAM! YOU F-ING COWARD! How dare you make a life-changing decision to end SOMEONE else's life because you were in your feelings? If you were that upset, you should have killed yourself...if it was that serious! But to kill someone who was so beautiful.....so willing to help others....who loved and was loved by many was senseless! Everyone KEPT saying you were pyscho...NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS WOULD HAVE THOUGHT YOU WOULD TAKE IT THIS FAR

  5. At this point I know that both families are really and truly hurting. We need to keep our negative comments to our selves and just be positive for the young men. The young men need our help and prayers now more than ever. If we could change this situation this would not have ever happened. So as far as the young men sake let go and let GOD!! I did not know this couple but, I know that their son's need all the LOVE that each of the family members and friend can give them. They lost not one but, both of their parents at the same time. All I have to say is family please be their for the young men as much as you can. They really and truly need your Prayers first, Love, and listening ear when they want to communicate. Young men always be their for each other because this is what your parents would want you all to do. Take care always but remember always no matter what the situation is put GOD first in your life's.

  7. There are two families that have a true tragedy on their hands and they must still go forward. I pray that God gives both family the strength to face the momentous tasks that face them. I can not imagine any pain being greater than a Mother losing a child. To whomever please respect this family. I say family because these two people have two families that more than likely has God first and then each other. I would beg everyone to keep it positive.
